I have a 1000 ping rate, and my bandwidth is good. I have a AMD athlon, 1.79 GHz, 480 MB of ram, S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR vid card. I have a cable connection with a bandwidth of just above 1500. DO I need upgrades or what is wrong with my system?

The 1000 ping is caused by either a firewall (or router), or running the game as a non-administrator under Windows 2000/XP. In reality, your actual ping is much lower.

Use all seeing eye outside of the game to view ping to a server, and when in the game, open the console and type stat net. halve the number, and you get your real 1-way latency. The reason it has this problem is because the latency pings to the servers happen on a separate port than the actual game, and that port was closed by your network administrators for worm protection.

Open your console (standard key is ') and type stat net. Then your real ping and packet loss will be displayed in the left top corner of the screen.

Oops someone else already said that. Sowwy.
