iaijutsu
is the practice of drawing and attacking,
without warning from a sheathed sword.
It consists of four kata or movements.

nukitsuke (drawing the sword and delivering the first cut)
kiritsuke (delivering the final cut)
chibri (cleaning the sword)
and
noto (returning the sword to it's scabbard)

Many have called him the "Reluctant Admiral" but, the original Japanese plans did not include the attack on Pearl Harbor, as it was deemed "to risky". It was Yamamoto's insistance, and his threat to resign if they didn't first attack Pearl Harbor, that caused the stratagem to be included in the final War Plan.

The plan to try to kill Yamamoto was born just four days before it was executed. Since the battle of Midway, American cryptoanalysts had continued to break the Japanese naval code, JN25. On April 14 a decoded message revealed that on April 18 Yamamoto planned to make an inspection and morale tour of forward bases on Bougainville. Flying from the Japanese headquarters in Rabaul, Yamamoto's visit would put him closer to U.S. forces than he had ever been.

All right JR! That was a very well made production, well worth the d/l. I love that you made a historical movie. The skins, music, scenes were all top notch. I usually miss in game sounds, but with this one I did not. I felt that you were VERY effective in the pacing of this movie, the flow was PERFECT! The information provided was excellent. I was also pleased to see some familiar transitions from Sony Screenblast, what a nice suite for movies it is. This is going to be on my examples DVD as it was really well made and stuffed with pertainent information and historical content.

I did get slighlty confused bud at the end when you rolled in for the final kill on Yamamoto's plane. Some shots have one Japanese plane getting the tail shot off with another Japanese plane in between it and the P-38 and some of the shots had it one v one? It is not a knock because I got the point it just appeared to be a minor continuity issue there.

Overall I really got into the content of your movie and the professional presentation of same. Wonderful stuff man, just great! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

so far i love sony screenblast. if i could afford vegas i would but after spending money to buy studio 8, then premier [half priced used], my wife put the breaks on software i couldn't justify.

One of the things that dogs me/you/all of us is editing out extraneous information. The second betty was there lower and to the left. In real life it carried vice admiral unagi, was shot down by howard AND barber [who was so close when he shot the second bomber. a piece of wreckage hit his gondola hard enough to dent it]. But remember the story was about yamamoto‚'s shoot-down, so I picked scenes where the second betty wasn‚'t visible. The actual errors here where the scenes it WAS visible.

Barber reported receiving fire from the second bomber which he ignored and since I didn‚'t want to re-shoot ALL the scenes I left some in and ignored the second bomber too.

At a Victory Credit Board (VCB) of Review at the USAF Historical Research Center, Maxwell AFB, AL, to reconsider the awarding of victory credits for the destruction of Admiral Yamamoto‚'s airplane the record states ‚"The evidence points to 1st Lt. Barber as the first to fire on Admiral Yamamoto‚'s lead bomber, setting it afire and causing a portion of the tail empennage to fly off". so i left in the shots of the stabilizor comming off, but i couldn't get a consistant take of that so i used both

Professional all the way dude. That was one of the better told stories I have seen in FB movies. Great blend of historic footage at Pearl. Really nice transitions and film effects. I wanted more of that great gun cam footage too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

(Also posted at the Virtual War Cinema):

You worked quickly with AEP and the P-38--gosh! I loved the take-off shots around 5 min. into the movie, especially the Betty's! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Yeah, wouldn't it be great to have a Kate and a Val and a ...... I better stop there, hehe.

Great historical research into this film. Some may say it contains a bit too much text and historical background. It is difficult to draw the line in films like this because you don't want the viewer not knowing too little.

The padlock views worked really well for you in this film. There were many flyby camera views however that seemed to stress your system causing the stutter--difficult for any system to handle. Sad, because the fly-by view is one of my favorite views in FB. This was particularly noticable during the one P-38 takeoff when the camera was directly above the runway.

Nice mix of video editing. It's always best to mix effects than over do it. Well done JR, thanks!!

it's in the credits but 1st was "face dancers" from children of dune, 2nd was "ronin" from the last samurai, 3rd was "revenge wheel" from titus, and 4th/5th was the begining of "might of rome" from gladiator with "red warrior" from the last samurai blended in, then the ending of "might of rome"

and i'm running a GeForce FX5900 and a 2.6GH intel with 1GB of ram... although i did run out of power [and i have a 500W power supply] once or twice and black screened it. but isn't that water COOL?

Sorry, JR, for this "aside", but I didn't find any other way to contact you:
The "!Yamamoto4.zip" you link to on your screens page is only 323 bytes and reports as broken when I try to open it. Could you please check that? I love the movie very much and hope I can act in the mission with the appropriate files.
BTW, how many track files did you use for the movie?
THANKS.

best place to "PM" me is through VWC i check it daily... link is in my sig
you were correct about the file, i've fixed the mission files, uploaded it and tested it, so i know it works now. If you want to do the mission the P-38 and betty skins are available at IL2skins.com i will try and uplaod the betty skins they're almost entirely justoca's with minor insignia and name changes
i just erased all my ancillary files for the movie to gain back space - lets see i had 21 NTRKs, from which i created 30-35 FRAPS AVIs [82GB], from which i made a movie AVI of 3.8GB. DiVX reduced it to 104MB and you have the results

WOW!! Finally a P-38 Lightning movie http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
Sorry it took me some time to view your latest movie JR. I have been in school for the whole week back in the States http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Good to be back in Yokota AB Japan, and to able to catch up with the latest and greatest movies http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The Historic Footage on Pearl Harbor..and with the Black and White transitions was simply top notch!!

Couldn't have said it better...right on "UCLANUPE"

The water shots was so nice, and the emerald green water close to the shore line was totally off the scale!! Perfect mode is so SWEET!!

There is not much I can say that hasn't been already said by everyone else....JR that was simply over the top!!

Thank you - i'm stuck on historicals now and i'm getting better at telling the story and keeping the text down, but as i pointed out to a screenwriter friend since we have to make the movies to the music sometimes you have to ADD words. but honestly? i love telling a story so again thank you
