I have found that page down works, I think you have to press it twice though

"page down". 1 press = idle, 2 presses = shutdown. If you want to do it with individual engines it is alt-pagedown and shift-pagedown.

the mission won't end on it's own once you've landed and shut down your engines, you need to hit escape and quit. If you completed your objectives it will show 'success' in the bottom of the debriefing window.

This is what is documented with the game ... does anyone know if it is on the "to fix" list? either change the keymapping or fix the documentation via a new readme etc.

I cant get the engines to cut no matter what key I map in the keyboard. (I'm running LockOn unpatched cos the patch causes major problems).

Any suggestion how to shut the engines off/on?

To start up right engine - shift-pageup
To start up left engine - alt-pageup
To shut down the right engine - shift-pagedown
To shut down the left engine - alt-pagedown

Thanks Keno.

Do these keys still apply even tho Ive mapped different ones in the control/keyboard setup?

I think Ive tried just about every key combination, including the ones you suggested, but I'll give it anothe try.

I believe if you are at idle using a throttle like a Cougar or TQS that one key stoke of Page Down will shut down the engines.
