There is the night vision glasses(t key) and there is the flash light (l key).

You don't get the cryvision goggles until the steam level. You have to use your flashlight.

You also have to turn on the power in the cavern. Then the lights will come up a bit.

Power switch: Enter the cave and go forward until you reach a short flight of stairs. Go up and to the right. Keep to your right and you will reach another longer flight of stairs. At the top is a room with a health pack and the switch is on the far wall.
Elevator:
Go down the same steps you came up and go forward to the short flight of stairs you first encountered. Now go right into a large room. Keep to the right and go up some stairs and the elevator is on the right.
