View Full Version : Is this it? No lush green areas? No choice of books?

What about the glory of Myst III and the rest?
We are in a darkened city, neighborhood, we have our ages. Is this it? We hunt markers? Will there be any trail or variety to explore in more ages? Or will we all have to follow through the same age/book?
Please so there will be. What about glorious flowers in the style of Myst III and the "flappy" stair plant? What about things like that?
I just want reassurance that we will have a choice of books to choose from so that we all won't be clogging the city or one particular book! Some could be in one book/age while others are off exploring another.
Please share!
Please share that you want to make this really big and you intend to get better and bigger servers in the style of other online games?
Talk to US!!
Reassure us!
We aren't asking for a lot!

You notice that your bookshelves are pretty empty? Lots of room.

The Myst 3 plants were pretty lush. I think Eder Kemo has one patch thick with plants. Well not as much as in Exile. For the latest in fully 3D and very richly dense flora - plants, trees and flowers, try the Far Cry pc demo, free. It's half a gig in size to download so it may take a bit of waiting. Codes are available to turn off all the shooting and fighting in the game so you can wander around its amazing tropical island setting. Oh and it has exotic birds flying and a couple boars and other wildlife.

Thanks for the encouragement!
eTheo, do you think all of Uru's problems can be corrected? You've played other online games.
Please see this thread: http://forums.guildofgreeters.com/index.php?showtopic=1991&st=15&#entry19532
I need encouragement!
Anyone's comments about this would be nice!
Thanks all!

I think they will reduce the lag in future ages and in the city. Can't prove it but they can get more or upgraded servers or whatever. It helps to have the recommended specs of a 2 Ghz system. I have a 1.6 Ghz pentium 4 and it seems playable with around 8 or less players in Live. I've read 1.7 to 2 Ghz for the recommended. But still the net and server connections are just as important or moreso.

Mary,

Note that the one major City area we still can't get to is the Library. Hmm... Library... books.

If you do some digging, you'll turn up concept art from some Ages we haven't seen yet. UO has a good index of concept art and screens. Personally, I like the one with snow, streams, pink trees and a clock.

Don't forget to look at the DRC list of Ages; you can dream about what's behind all those mysterious names (http://www.drcsite.org/ages/ages.shtml): Dereno, Er'cana, Negilahn, Todelmer, Uran...

Clicking the boldfaced names gives hints about why some ages have been "suspended"; somehow those are especially intriguing. Like this one: "Pirahnay - 1/2001 - Phase One Suspension - Not understood, dangerous to proceed without knowledge - K" How cool is that?

(I'm anticipating that Yeesha, Sharper or the Bahro may give us access to those areas that the DRC apparently doesn't want us to see. Comments about Rebek in Sharper's journal strongly suggest this.)

The "sunken vessel" on the list is presumably the one that has the mysteriously pulsing light by it, that we can now see from the longest of the Docks.

One great Myst tradition that Uru continues, is that each Age is very different both visually and in the flavor of its puzzles from all the others. I think we can expect plenty of variety. That's why I don't complain a lot about puzzles I don't like; people like different kinds of puzzles, and it's more important for me to have lots of different kinds than to have them all of the type I like.

Anyway, hope that's enough to re-whet your curiosity!

I played it and it was ok, not better than URU environments in artistry. Would make a good engine for URU developers though...

ZardOz I delved even deeper into geekdom with all the rendering detail tweaks, mods with humvees, boats, gliders, changing sea elevation, etc I found at the Ubi Far Cry forum. And that's just singleplayer with no online play yet. Not to mention posting with those people there.

Yes folks Ubi publishes Far Cry. So anyone here doesn't even need to fill out anything to post there, just use your account name from here to login. I'm going about it just a bit because it has lots of lush green places although the art itself is not any better than Uru as mentioned.

I started the Far Cry demo. I saw I had a gun, which was alarming enough, but then when the guys on the dock SHOT at me, that was IT! I ran like heek.

I'm not much of a FPSer... *hides in Myst games*

What's New, Uru? (http://urulive.ubi.com/US/)

You can make your gun not visible in Far Cry demo as well as to stop baddies from shooting. Here's a link to codes in the Ubi Far Cry forum.

http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view-topic.asp?name=us_farcry_general&id=zytgc

If you really want to see that island badly enough without the gunplay I can help with the hassles of the codes for anti shooting.
