guys ...calm down...there are 8 days of fighting in BIA but there will be 25+ "levels" if u want to call them that....its probably better if u call then "actions" instead...the 502nd PIR had many encounters with the german army during those 8 days, so expect 2-3 "actions" per day.
this game is based on historical fact. so lets say on day 5, elements of the 502 encoutered germans, in the early morning, then again in the mid-afternoon, and then in the evening...then that is what will be in BIA...<--- **this is just a made-up example**
the "climax" of BIA will be the attack and defence of the town of Carentan...just like it happened back in june (13th-14th) of 1944.

The more research on the game i do, i realize that you are restricted to the set "encounters." Which dissapoints me in someways.
Why?
Because supposidely the game was in production for over 3 years. The game is SO realistic and historically accurate. And since SO much time was taken to recreate real Normandy, then you should be able to explore it.
In my honest opinion, the game was made kind of the wrong way.
Rather then making a standard 25 different, sort of written in stone missions that you have to beat, in the order the game gives you. You should have been able to hike through Normandy from objective to objective with a sort of time limit to complete those objectives.
Now, im not saying you should sit and watch the guys eat, sleep, "go to the bathroom" so to say, ect...BUT you have 192 hours to get to and complete your objectives. And along the way, if you should encounter German partolls or strong holds, or what ever, then that would account for your scermishes on the way. Like im sure it is in real life. And at the end of the day or say about 18-20 hour period, find a place for your troops to sleep. Fade out/save, whatever, then the next 24 hour period or the next day would fade in. Basically a real time world, contained to Normandy.
Just an idea.
But i think that with the resources used, the time used to create the game, and the hard work put into it, it shouldnt just be 25 straight on missions you have to complete. How much "replay" value is there in that? Will there be difficulty levels, like in Halo, that press you to complete the game over and over untill you REALLY beat it? I have a bad feeling it is just going to be a straight forward 25 or so missions and thats it. What will make the player come back to play the game again once those missions are complete?
In my opinion, NEVER constraint the player to a story line written in stone. I realise its based on real life occurances. But, if it wanted to be more realistic, then why constrain someone to set missions? Let the player adventure to the objectives, try to stay alive on the way, like the real soldiers had to do, and complete the objectives, and stay alive, like the soldiers had to do. And so what if the each individual persons' adventure plays out differently then from another players, or from what happened in real life. THAT is what makes life... life, the possibility of anything happening at any given time. THAT is realisim.
In my opinion, for the next installment of the game, it should be a real time world. And you should be given your objectives, like the real sodiers were given before they deployed, and then it is up to YOU to get there ONTIME and complete your objective, and try to keep your men and you alive. Giving your life if neccesary, in this case being that in the game, to complete your objectives and keep your men alive.
And lets just say you make it through the 8 days as Matt Baker and you get to Carentan. What if you die in Carentan? Like in real life the next highest ranking officer takes command. So, then your point of view should take over as the next in command and continue the game from there.
Of course this is just my opinion. And it could be beyond our current technological abilities at this point to create a game on such a large scall like that, but it sure would be incredible.
Eitherway, this game is going to be great. And that is an understatement.
I was just hoping for a real time world, where i can adventure through this amazing recreation of Normandy that the developers made. Its amazing that they recreated Normandy so accuratly, but its dissapointing that we wont be able to FULLY enjoy the recreated world by exploring it.
Take Grand Theft Auto as an example to what i mean, but on a larger and more realistic scale.
::EDIT:: i should also say, im not downsizing this game. This game is going to be one of my favorite games ever made, i can tell right away. And honestly think it will be the only game that will be able to stand up to Halo2 next year. This will, in no doubt be the best war game made to-date. I was just expressing my ideas.

Thats good, 25 some levels. I wonder if you could interact. Like healing wounded men, Take a break and drink water and have men talk to you and such. I also wonder if they would add a Training Camp, if its based on a True Story...aha!
It really sucks to see its not fully recreated, to see problems you must fix in a hurry. To see men die and never see them again, have to see your own men burry the dead.
If Ubisoft remakes another historical event, then it should be more RPG like but place in FPS. They should remake the life of a ranger, or the 101st Airborne. Or even the German Soldier of WWII.

you guys bring up good points, all of which have been brought up before in the the Developers fourm at www.gearboxsoftware.com (http://www.gearboxsoftware.com) and talked about with the developers of the game.
the reason why u wont be able to just roam around the normandy landscape is because the developers want u to go through the SAME "actions" that took place 60 years ago...if u look up historical battles that the 502nd went through..."WXYZ" is a perfect example. look it up on google...that action took place on D+1 i believe...you will play that event in BIA... so the game will have "levels" in the sence that they will be based on actual events that happened to the 502PIR, "Dead mans Corner" being another event that will be in BIA, and of course, Carentan.
as for the next BIA...it was talked about before...most likely it will continue following the 502nd PIR through Operation Market Garden, and then again with the 502nd's role in the Battle of the Buldge.
as for replay value. even though you will be playing the same "levels" over and over again, it will be much different then the other WWII FPS's uve played in the past...you will be able to complete each action in different ways...there will be different ways to attack different way the AI will respond to the attacks...different paths that you can take...not just one lane attacks like in CoD.
Think of it kind of like H&D2, only with bigger maps and WAY better graphics, and WAY WAY better AI.
as far as i know this AI is the only AI that will actually try and out manuver YOU, not just sit back and take a beating...if ur playing poorly the enemy will try and exploit your weakness, and attack you.
oh and if u want a REAL challenge there will be an "authentic mode" which will make the experience even harder.
this game will bring alot to the table that hasnt been seen before.

A HAH!
I didnt realize that was dicussed already with the Devs and such. Well its good my idea is out there anyway.
The different paths are good. That brings the replay value. If it never plays out the same way twice, that is replay value. So that is definitely great that they made it that way. That is what will bring me back again and again to play the single player, thast the kind of thing i was hoping for. You are right, in Medal Of Honor games it is a stricked path you must follow, and basically the same thing happens everytime you play it. So they took that into account and made it possible to play things out differently each time.
The maps are huge, thats also a great thing. Like Halo. I know i keep mentioning Halo, but that is the only other game i know that has such huge maps for a shooter.
And also if it takes me many many hours to beat the game, thats also great. I want it to challenge me. So the very smart AI is great too.
This game is going to be great.

Well, the game is out now, so you decide if it's long enough.
P.S: Yes I'm bored enough to start <STRIKE>spamming</STRIKE> posting random things.
