If you have done Far Cry on realistic and found it too easy and have tried mountain climbing then you are ready for the challenge of this thread. To beat Far Cry in the quickest time possible. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif
The rules are as follows. You have to play on realistic with no ai autobalance on. No cheats mods or steriods/substances are allowed. I know some of you have patch 1.2. I have 1.1 so I expect slightly quicker times from the 1.2 boys and girls.
You can exploit any glitch or fault with level design, i.e climbing or auto level ends. You can skip cut scenes. If you havent I suggest you look at my previous post on Mountain Climbing to see some of the shortcuts.

Timing can be done by statistic mode or by stopwatch if you want. Just remember if you use a stopwatch when the game saves at checkpoints press stop and write the time down. This is beacause if you have to redo a bit your timing will mess up. Then once you have the times inbetween the idividual checkpoints you can add them up.
If I have missed a factor out or am not clear enough on something please ask.
If you have got a good time post it and the route. Please only post proper times, i am good enough to try your route and test it. I might not beat it but am good enough to see if it is possible.
For example I have just done Fort in 4:45sec. I went to the right at start missed patrol boat. ran up beach through forest engaged enemy in jungle and battled my way up stairs. Then followed snakey path to the fort killin those who got in my way. killed everyone on the fort. Then this is the sneaky bit did my climb along the wall over the mountain dropped down by the pier level and ran back into the tunnel and skipped all that stuff with helicopters big boat and going inside and blowing up the dish.
Some of the later level are going to involve mega battles and we will probably have times of 30mins. Once all the levels are done we can add the times up and see how quick this game can be beaten http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Pier took me 7 mins 45 sec. it was quite a tough one. I basically went the route of the level killed the two at start glided down to the right path. killed the two in bunker and watchtower then went down to the woods and hugged the right cliff face. The merc base i used the buildings on the left to go through and get armour then killed the two on rangs and took out rocket guy in tower. grabbed buggy and drove like maniac to end and killed everyone. Some of the levels climbing and shortcuts will work. others you just have to rush through. two levels that should be one speed rush will be rebellion and river.

When we finish this, we ought to see who can have the fewest shots. I've done 3 levels, using just flash gernades, smoke and rocks. I can't beat the Pier time, since my method of climbing around takes me 9 min just to reach the Pier.. well, at least I can enjoy the scenery more!!

This is dam hard!! Research took 3mins 35 sec. I kept to left at start ran with machete for maximum spped. killed the three up in the hut grabbed the card. used the fixed mortor launcher to clear the guys protecting the cave. Then went in cave killed anyone who got in the way turned generator on and just made it to lift on 0 health.
Cptlong can you try your climb on treehouse I think that might be quicker than heading straight into battle. Cus its one hell of a bullet fest compared to the normal prone hide behind tree stuff that I played before. Infact you multiplayer people should excel at it.

Just tried "River" by "Climb and Circle" method. It took me 19:30 just to get to the uplink vehicle, and 24:15 before I killed everyone to get the Crow death scene, add another :33 to get back to the vehicle, upload the PDA and wait for Val for the end cut scene.
So target to beat by direct method:

Remember , there is a sniper there with **** Crow, he can put a quick end to your day!

Yeah with river your probably better off taking the infaltable at start and killng the two in the patrol boat. then take that boat and go down the river as quick as poss. If you go fast enough you should clear the pontoon bridge then keep going and hit the land by the cargo chopper the fight crowe the proper way. By the way, fooling around in Treehouse, I found a new climb. It takes you around the other side, which should be shorter to the fort. If you want to go back to climbing for a break, go out of the exit at start, head right along the cliff. There's a large outcrop, almost like a big nose, past that, you'll see a nice gulley up the hill. There's an indent that you can make with full power jumping, rest for full, them a little sliding and jumping. Now traverse around to the right, staying on the ridgeline. When I made it to the fort, I found a little "V" to scoot down and onto the roof of the exit door, without health loss or being seen. Jump down, lose about 3/4 health, run down the ramp. You'll be seen, but the downslope will protect you long enough for the "USE" switch to end level. My problem was getting the key and getting back to the climb. The first time I did the climb way back, there were no mercs on the catwalk. This time there were 2 and 4 or 5 trigens gathered at the base!
I may try the "steal vehicle" and "drive there and back" routine to the new climb. If I can kill the patrol quickly, may be able to break 15 min.

After an intense night of running and shooting and going to the pub here are some more times.
Treehouse took 5:20, i ran straight from the start through hole in fence and up platform got keycard killed humvee and chopper across the gated bridge then went to the right up the hill grabbed the explosives and fort my way to the end.
Bunker 5:10 very quick intense fighting and you have to go through the level properly.
Steam 3:58 even I was shocked by this time. at start wen on rock in the sea and killed the two in patrol boat. drove like a maniac to waterfall and hut jumped out grabbed armour and health and ran. then stole a humvee after wasting the occupants and drove right to the steam base they were so suprised i wasted the foreman and the two guarding the exit and finished.
Regulator 4:15 This was a laugh. i ran out along the water and capped the driver over the truck and got in then drove to the flying fox tower. Then slid to base and climbed over the hill and dropped into the final bit blew the padlock and that was that. You need full health to survive the drop.
Doing these levels quickly is such good training for multiplayer. I am getting very good at running and headshoting people.

Rebellion that big dark multiple routed level full of trigen, mercs and humvee's. 4 minutes 44 seconds flat. Killed the trigens in tunnel and one outside and got in humvee. Waited for fat boy to blow door then drove jumped bridge and went that way jumped off cliff in humvee and went along beach and grabbed the buggy. Drove buggy up to concrete blockaded bridge and gunned all the mercs down then ran across bridge killed the body armour dudes and escaped with 0.00005 health left http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Good time for control cptlong, those stupid valves. It looked like I was going to have a similar time. So I think we will stick with yours and save me the hassle. Also factory i cant beat so well done there. Ive got cooler now thats going to be a nightmare. I think we might have seen the last of the 4 minute levels. River should be a quick one but levels like boat and volcano are going to take a while.

You guys are insane ,i am currently playing rebellion at realistic level and it will probably take me 4 hours .This is partly because i do not like leaving anything left alive .My theory is the trigens and mercs were put there for me to kill http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif.
I am not looking forward to dam as i do not think i will have enough bullets for all the fatboys , i might have to be macho and try to kill them with a machette.What do you think my chances are of killing a fatboy with a machette?
If i was to give you guys a suggestion ,it would be to always have a rocket launcher handy.This can turn almost impossible sections into a doddle i.e. the last part of regulator.

P.S. I havent found the trigens anymore bullet proof at realistic than anyother difficulty .
Is this the case or am i just getting better and hitting the head more often?

It took me a while but i killed every merc, trigen and chased after helicopters. I shot down every helicopter there was except those that crowe travveled in.
Dam isnt as bad as people make out if you know what to do. I killed every trigen in the wood by the waterfall so there was not a single one alive that side of the sea before i got to the chopper. just remember to teach them how to swim http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hazards32 you probably find you are getting better. I dont think the hit ratio changes with difficulty they just hit you with more accuracy when they shoot on realistic. There are 2 magic numbers to remeber for the dam trigens. The little monkeys take 7 in the head and the fat ones without a rocket launcher take 5 in the head.
Cptlong cooler sucks I'm going to guess that we will not finish the game in 2 hours but more like 3.

Look at the mountain climbing thread as you can climb two hills and from on top of them you have a very good position. if you are accurate you can kill 95% of the trigens before you even cross the lava.
Heres one of the views from the mountain climb. you will see what i mean.

Got annoyed with cooler so decided to do two other levels.
River: 6:17 ran down fighting and got inflatable, went up river a bit and nicked a patrol boat. then drove like a maniac to end. I had to take out second helicopter on way. Dam: the most popular i cant get past the bit at the start thread. Well ive just done the whole level in 4:48 sec. At start with no gun i jumped of cliff and kept on right of river after plunge pool. Got to chopper and killed fatboys and co. Then still no weapon ran up hill then kept to the right and got into weapon stash got armour guns health. Then got in buggy and drove super quick to end where i went up a hill and jumped out the killed four men and a rocket guy with a mixture of oic rockets and bullets. Then used the jackhammer to fight my way up the stairs to the end. So if any of you are taking longer than 4:48 to do dam then thats very poor http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Cptlong and anyone else, there are 6 levels left, cooler, volcano, boat, catacombs, swamp, archive. I think thats correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's levels and situations you want to avoid and volcano quicly is one of them. 4:50sec's.
OIC rockets and bullets on dudes at start. Grabbed rocket launcher then killed kriegers 4 goons with splash damage, used jackhammer on krieger and killed him the first time ever with full health and armour http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
ran to store room dropped jackhammer and grabbed pistol and went to door layed prone and sniped the four hopping trigens. This is very very difficult. Then with pistol for speed ran around all the fat boys hit switch got in lift. then used rocket launcher as i ran up towards doyle. Splash damage killed all the mercs. Ran up and killed doyle with oic. 4:50 was a real shock I thought this level would take a while but its possible if your insane http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It took several dress rehearsals and when I ran the gauntlet, I was killed 2X before making a suscessful run. Each time the number of Trigens and big boys changes. Since I'm up on the roof, I trigger the enemy in different ways, depending upon my route. After a lot of practice, I found the correct hole that dropped me straight into the room with the PDA ammo and health. There are 4 trigens and one big boy in that room. I was able to get 2 of them to jump up after me onto the roof, where I easily dispatched them. The roof being the grassy plains above the catacombs. A rock, followed by a gernade fixed the other 2. I got the goods (PDA) and ran past the big boy, straight to the big room. A single shot gets them fighting each other, and I was able to run in, blow the wall and escape. I lost 10-12 seconds taking a picture of the dead trigens.. system locked up. If I got the right combination of bad guys, and fighting in the big room, I could shave time off. In one of my practice sessions, I ran in and blew the wall without being noticed at all. The second time I tried it, they were all over me!

Firstly hazards 32 I die a hell of a lot doing this supersonic post. However I have picked up a couple of pointers for running. If the enemy (mercs) have not seen you when you run torwards them, the ai kicks in and they hide behind trees. By the time they have finished playing hide n seek, i'm out of there. If they have seen you before you reach them, then thats a different story.
Cptlong excellent time on Catacombs!!! I am so glad I dont have to run through that level.

Here are the individual times for each save:
0:52 for first save when you get explosves. Just drove boat and ran.
1:39 first tower down. got new boat opposite tent drove and grabbed buggy went to tower and "bang."
2:06 Second tower. Used buugy went down to shore grabbed new boat went to island ran across bridges hit second tower "bang" was using glider as autosave kincked in.
3:09 third tower. killed guy in patrol boat as I glided down. ran up hill, put three sniper rounds in the three guys in each watch tower. Ran through woods and up hill used humvee to gun down mercs then blew up tower.
1:15 save in boat. used humvee drove up to glider and sniped everyone on boat then flew down.
2:17 Killing Crowe. I jumped ship as helicopter doesnt move as much when i am on beach. Put numerous rockets in it and waited for doyle.

Im going to have another go at control as I want that time under 10 minutes. Some of these levels are suprisingly fast, where as others are a pain in the neck.
Cptlong did we come up with any legit shortcuts for swamp? I will have to do humvee ride with val as it will take to long to walk, but what about after?

Redid Control: This time I ran after using the elevator then used the mingun to kill mercs and monkey trigens. Then ran past fat boy and swam up the tunnel then ran to exit and left them all behind. 5:42 which is very good because we might be able to pull this game off in 2 hours http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

The only climb into swamp, other than at the beginning, is right after the ramp jump. Swamp has 2 problems:
1. Val has to be with you. Unlike Regulator, where you can trip the end without her, she must drive the Forklift over the end trigger.
2. The majority of the fighting is done against Mercs who spawn after Val triggers the gate to open y the bridge, then unlocks the door to the nuke.
Its gonna take your precision head shots, flashbangs and gernades to pull this one off.

This is going to be a ***** cptlong. ive just had a hell of a time doing Archive. 7:18, this is with running through the crates and nailing the rocket guy and sniper at the end to get key card. then sniping those by the big doors at end and swimming and running to exit.
I will do cooler tonight as well. i want to nail this game asap!!

Cooler 8:07!!! I ran and battled my way through. I skipped the room with the Fat Boy's amd Mercs, had to fight in the room I flood, but still drowned 2 trigens. Then killed the four little monkeys at the end and rescued the damsel in distress for the last time.
There's a wonderfull line in Blackadder goes Forth, where they are about to go over the top in WW1. He says "I think the phrase I am looking for rhymes with Clucking Bell." I think i need a miracle to do swamp in under 6 minutes!!! I will try it tmrw. There might be the possibilty of shaving a minute of catacombs but i doubt it. Great News.
I practiced the climb over and over and over, then I carefully mapped out the most direct, or easiest route. It was a lot like orienteering. Shortest route is over the steep hill, but the longer way around is quicker...
Anyway, after 4 attempts, and finally figuring out where to enter the thick bushes to blindly jump and land on the roof at the exact trigger spot;
Factory: 3:54
No shots fired
Undetected
That gives you an additional 1:38 for "Swamp"
I'm sure you've figured this out, but if you fire at the hangar door when Val first pulls out, you'll destroy the buggie that first chases you, before it ever exits.
Val is really going to cramp your style in this one!

At start killed sniper then took out all mercs by buggy and explosives, then drove and ran over and gunned down mercs on way to catcombs. Blew open the entrance. Inside I killed only 5 trigens in total the rest of the time I just ran past them all. My lungs probably hurt form all the gas but hey I'm happy cus thats nearly 4 miuntes off the original time.
It seems climbing has only helped us on factory, fort, and regulator. But I would guess those climbs have saved us nearly 20 minutes.
So as it stands we have just under 11 minutes to do swamp. This can go either way, it will be a disaster or a suprise. I have thought of a few ideas that might help or miss some fire fights. What I really need in Michael Schumacher and the BFG9000. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

Don't feel bad. We too took hours on our first go-rounds. I prefer slow stealth and total destruction! These fast times, exploit holes in the game engine or design. You can see a few in the "Tips and Tactics" thread. For example, if you're lucky, you can make it through "Catacombs" without firing a single shot, but everything has to fall in place. Developers take into consideration that most gamers want to wipe the level clean of all targets. They really don't plan for just running straight through. To Jimbocry's credit, he's very skilled in head shots on the run, a must for rapid play.

Yes i seen the Doom2 in 14 minutes movie, so i can a bit imagine, but it anyway needs some amazing skill. So i am sending a kiss and hug to both of you, because you rock! I was not realy making it clean, i was happy always to alive the level :-)

Sorry for the long reply. Was filming a commerical and had to change location so was in amsterdam for weekend.

Cptlong I did get the pda and explosives in the catacombs. That room was where I had to engaage 4 out of the 5 monkey trigens. Then I ran keeping to the right of the last room and blew open the door and escaped.
Now swamp well I did this on Friday. At start I killed sniper in tower then ran to right in woods around base with val then turned hard to buggy and killed the two mercs guarding it and I was out of there.
I then did buggy ride. After buggy I went to right and in the side door of the first building killing mercs then went to room. Went out the back door with val and killed the four mercs in the next compound. Went in front door and ran and killed mercs and got key card as quick as poss. For the arming device I went in that building up the stairs on the left and killed maybe 6 or 7 mercs. Then ran back to val and she opened the gate. Went to left of bridge in undergrowth and past kitchen killing three mercs on way. Then straight to where the nuke was killing the 5 guarding it. At the end I had to kill 6 or 7 mercs to escape but that was the quickest way to do that level.
So Swamp took 9:36 which means that we have beaten the game in under 2 hours (with probably enough time to have watched val have a shower. )

If anyone does ever beat the times by a few seconds here and there please feel free to modify the final times below.
I will try and think of a few pointers for the tips and tactics post as I should have probably picked up a few.

I do pro video editing on the side. Nothing big yet, just some weddings, and a local documentary that I"m currently working on.
I have a couple of Cannon GL2s and a big studio camera, Panasonic 300CLE.
I use to do a lot of Radio commercials, when I worked at our local station full time.

In fact Far Cry is in the DVD case now and I am struggling to build up the energy to give doom3 one more try untill HL2 finnaly struggles off the production line.
