startup hang first time, then works?

Hi Folks... I hope UBI tech staff see this post.

My system:
XP PRO
Ram 1 gig
CPU P4 1.6
Vid: nVidia Ti4600
game installed fine... no errors
game runs great.... so far.
but when I start it up it will do a screen res. change, and lockup ... I can give the three-finger-salute to get task manager up kill the game and repeat .. and it works!

CD-ROM is a DVD-ROM Generic kind "DRIDE1648" using MS drivers.

not a "Hard crash", no error messages on screen.

Happens every once and ahwile on my system as well. Seems to get locked/stuck in the change from one resolution (desktop 1600x1200) to the other (1024x768 game)

happens to me even if the windows desktop and the game are at the same res.

I wonder if there is a cd-check happening at the same time as the screen chnage?

or some kind of video-init issue??

same happens to me but only exiting the game to the menu, its a terrible menu and totally unnecessary.
