I dont consider myself a pro player, but I can usually get through most games. The easy setting gave me a good run for my money in the demo though!I wonder whether the difficulty of the game will hurt sales in the beginner dept.I thought that about"The Thing" as well.Great game but very difficult for new gamers. After all easy was'nt meant to be what skilled gamers interpret it as,That should be left for the normal or are you serious? settings! Any thoughts?

Yeah I guess 'Easy' is a relative term. I thought the easy setting was a lot more difficult than other games I have played but thought it was mostly because the AI in this game is smarter than those other games. I guess it is a DEMO with a lot of tweaking to be done before the final release. I am sure the developers will do some adjusting to the 'smartness' of the AI before then. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I just finished the demo on the medium difficulty setting. I don't mind having the set saved points because there are so many of them.
It took a lot of reloads to get through it. i didn't mind because each time through the enemy seems to behave a little bit differently so its not the same game all the time. It's challenging and not overly repetitive. Though I would still like to see less enemy scripting.
I'll try it on the hardest setting later this week. Anyone try it yet? You might see even less scripting on this setting!

I haven't tried easy or medium setting yet. I generally start on the hardest setting available when trying a demo or otherwise.
Way I see it, if the easy setting is too hard for a new player...then that new player needs to, well..practice. Certain games require that certain skills be honed to make headway, rather then have the developers make it easy enough that a virgin gamer can start up and complete the game in no time flat. Those players that try it and dwindle away back to quake style, finger twitch games just don't have the stamina to 'learn' a game. This game requires a sense of stealth, and strategy. You have issues of AI, line of site, hearing, etc. Need to learn how to utilize all these to your(the players) advantage.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Guys Guys Guys this is more or less a game to played with caution, like Wattata said a low profile helps alot, just don't barge into to the crowd but kill them one by one.
In other words i played the Easy bit without many problems, the Normal mode is do-a-ble and now i am trying the hard stuff.
When the game is released i figure the booklet to the game wil tell ppl to use the stealh mode ( tactical playing ) for best results.
Like the man says "stay in the jungle of the main path" far better survival options.

This game represents the beginning of a new generation in game AI, I think it makes sense that the bar just gets set that much higher. I can't see this putting anyone off.

I don't consider myself a pro player either, but I must say that the game isn't hard at all. I actually don't notice any difference in each of the difficulty settings (concerning AI). As I have mentioned earlier in another thread this might have to do with the low sys specs I'm running this game on. The AI behaves....not intelligent on my machine. I must say that I do use stealth tactics. That is, hiding in bushes. The AI simply don't understand the concept of someone hiding in a bush and shooting 'em dead one by one. If they manage to walk towards the source of the sound I can simply chop them to death with the machete. They don't even react on dead bodies...
I have the console command sys spec = 1 running to enable the jeep/shark and the extra patrols.
The most challeging part of the game for me is the low fps I get when things get crowdy. It makes it very difficult to aim http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
The only thing that the difficulty setting seems to affect is the amount of bullets the mercs and you can take before dying. Other than that there are no difference that I can notice... Curious how the full game will run. Think I'll have to upgrade soon

I totally agree. But I too thought the game was hard when I first tried it, I died a few times when fighting the four guys in the start. But once you get the hang of it the demo level is pretty easy.
I think the difficulty levels are really crappy though..the hard is just silly when you can pump several clips of ammo on a guy and he won't die. I'd rather have maybe more aware AI that shoots more accurately or something..just making them stronger makes the player frustrated and doesn't really make the game more challenging..just takes more time to pump an enemy full of lead. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Interestingly, no one's mentioned the "AI Auto Balance" toggle, which by default is set to 'on'.
I assume it's a 'better-you-play, harder-it-gets' type thing. For the record, I started on Medium, switched off the above toggle, and had a pleasently challenging, though far from 'too difficult' experience.
I'd like to play the thing again on Hard, to try and judge the diff. between that and Medium, then I'll fool around with the AI balance switch.
Mind you, since no one else has mentioned it, it's probably a redundant piece of crap and I'm chasing fool's gold! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well, I just finished the demo again on Hard diff. To be honest, there wasn't a hell of a lot of difference between that and Medium, and I'm no genius with FPSs.
Starting again on Hard with the AI Auto Balance toggle on, I was pleasently surprised to find that the weapons I had when I finished Hard, were still with me for the new game. Which was nice. (Fast Show viewers: laugh now) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
Most of the mercaneries didn't seem *that* much tougher/need that many more shots to kill, although the 'super' mercs that drop in after you enter the comm center were noticably harder to drop.
I suppose that after playing the same short sequence over and over (i.e. the demo), you do get better/it does get easier- there's more of a rush from one nme to the next, but even so.
Also bear in mind that *probably* (hopefully), the nme AI will get harder/better as the more advanced enemies appear. Sort of thing. I imagine the demo is from quite early on in the game.

Wow! Now it's hard! First attempt after finishing 'hard', with AI Auto bal. on.
It's like the guys actually wake up- flanking, use of cover, cover fire, removal-of-ear-plugs etc. is all *much* more evident now. Hee hee! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

D/l'd the demo. Played the game. Enjoyed myself. I tried hard first time out then the hard/AI auto balance thingy. Didn't die once. Didn't even know where the bots were and didn't die. Then again, I come from a LOOOONG history of first person shooter games.
Game looks good, AI is some of the best I have seen...but no match for real people that know to run like hell when overpowered, seek cover while reloading, aim down sights, shoot at heads, etc.
I need a new system to consider buying this thing, but who knows? How is game performance in the demo going to relate to game performance in the game?
For you folk that think it is too hard, try this: seek cover, crouch (makes you much more accurate, yet still mobile), use your zoomalt control (I set mine to "z"), and fire at heads. Bots drop like flies.

Usually, in games like this (such as halo and halflife) where open ended gameplay is stressed, i make the game harder for myself -- like, can i steal that vehicle and use it against them? can i kill everyone on the map? Can i clear this room using 5 bullets and taking no damage? This makes for a very entertaining and challenging experience.
I have beaten farcry demo on all difficulties. Really, the game isnt all that hard, as all guns are extremely accurate and its very easy to get a headshot on everyone.

The very first was Escape from Castle Wolfenstein, the 1982 Apple II Silas Warner classic. Hell, I still play it from time to time.
What was yours?
