Ok, here's one I had last night and it seems to me to be brimming with all kinds of symbolism, but I don't know what it is!
In this dream I was not me (very unusual for my dreams) -- I was some blonde chick. I was being interviewed (by a magazine or something) because of this amazing garden I had created in my back yard. It was made out of small stones and small logs and very fine, pale sand. It was designed so that when it rained a small stream would form and move the compnents of the garden around in some fabulous visual pattern, so that as long as the water was flowing, the garden would be in motion (like a kaleidascope, but not geometric). So I drove away from the interview in a fabulous white old-fashioned convertable, the back of which is still covered with sand (apparently, i hauled the sand in my car). Then I went to visit some fictional friend of mine and he is convinced that I must be in posession of some kind of magical powers for being able to create this garden. I tell him this is ridiculous -- if I were magical, my car would not still be covered in sand. So the dream kind of ended there, but not before I was nagged by the question of whether I my friend was being ridiculous, whether I really DID have magical powers but I was trying to hide that fact from him, or whether I had magical powers but was unaware of them.
Any objective interpretations are welcomed!

You want to be blonde, drive around in a refurbished '70s convertible, have magical powers, and you just had a birthday. SOunds like a middleaged man getting a toupee to hide his bald spot, buying a sports car, and wishing young women would find him attractive.
Standard middle-aged crisis. Just admit to yourself that your getting old and that there is nothing you can do about it. And move on.

Ok first PX are you taking any kind of drugs? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif just kidding
Does it sound like any thing you read or saw in a movie or on television?
Maybe the evaluations caused a little more stress than you thought and it was just your mind taking a break from reality and reliving some childhood fantasy?
What if you are not being honest with your self about something in your life and this was a way for your brain to tell you what your heart is not?
Work and daily life might be stunting some creativity that is in you and being unable to do so in real life your brain gave you a relese?
I know there are those out there that have terribly brilliant ideas about your dream but this is the best my feeble mind can conjure.
After all this typing I don't have the energy to tell my dream http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Personally, I'd go check to see if there were sand in my car. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Seriously, I think dreams are probably the brain doing maintenance, activating parts of the brain that perhaps don't get used much during the waking state, and doing so in a semi-random fashion, with the mind trying to make sense of it all. Dreams can be strange.
In a similar vein, it may be why schizophrenics have auditory and visual hallucinations. I think that their brain structures may be causing them to dream while in a waking state. Their sleep pattern may be so disrupted as to cause lack of REM sleep. Stop sleeping long enough and you will hallucinate.

I don't usually do this Princess , because I believe that things can have so many meaning to each of us . But based on what you say at the end , about how the dream left you wondering , I think that both Ron and Sky may be on to something there . The middle life crisis is just a term that describes people going through a change , at a time when many of us ask ourselves if this is all there is to life . And Magic is creativity . So , I would guess that you are wondering if you are living up to your creative potenial . Just a guess mind you . http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
BTW yes you do have Magic in you .

FINALLY!!!!
Item 1. I was some blonde chick. Why do you phrase that observation that way? What are your feelings about being a blonde chick (assuming that you are not)? How do you feel about blonde's personally?
Item 2. ...amazing garden I had created in my back yard. It was made out of small stones and small logs and very fine, pale sand. What does this represent to you? I hazard a guess that you feel as if you look at your life as full of small, beautiful things. The next bit about the rain seems to indicate that even when unexpected things happen in your life, your garden is stable and can handle them.
Item 3. So I drove away from the interview...You're life is changing and you are reappraising it and your ability to maintain it. Do you have doubts about your influence on the direction your life has taken up to this point?
Item 4. ...my car would not still be covered in sand. Your life is not perfect (who's is?) but it seems to me that you feel like there is a magic to it, that you have been luckier than others. Maybe you feel your life has been a little too comfortable?
Most importantly, what is your interpretation of each item in the dream?

Just go ahead and get that blonde wig, buy or rent that convertible and take that road trip out west you've always been wanting to do.
Don't over analyze it, just act on it.

Wow. That is a sweet dream, PX, particularly the garden. i like that idea of the kalidescope.
Now, I know what my dreams have meant recently. I'm stressed out over my exams... not fun doing Physics problems in my head when I am trying to relax. :|
But here is what I found from a dream dictionary:
Garden - It may be a symbol of lost innocence or youth. Folklore tells us that dreaming of beautiful gardens is symbolic of great happiness and love. If the garden is wild, it means that you may have difficulties but with some care and attention you are capable of overcoming them.
River - Water sustains life and is the most abundant compound in all living things. It may represent the flow of your energies, the path of your life, or the passage of time. It also may be symbolic of your emotional well-being.
Sorry, couldn't find anything on sand. Does any of this make sense?

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif You guys, I'm only 35.
Gab, I think I probably phrased it that way to express that the person I was in the dream was completely foreign to me, and yet, was supposed to be me. I have no opinions about blondes as a group or as individuals.
Interesting observations, all. I'll be turning them over in my mind. As a point of interest, sand appeared again in a short dream I had last night.....intersting....

Yes, CK, I definitely had the impression that my mind was really thinking about something with this dream. Sometimes my dreams seem to be merely visual impressions, but often they are meaningful thoughts. I do intend to keep thinking about this one -- sometimes it is the best way to truly know my own mind!

Sometimes these dream-dictionaries freak me out. This morning, the last dream I had when I woke up was about having pet fish in my room (and they looked exactly like the ones from Finding Nemo [I don't have any fish nor have I seen the movie]). Earlier today when I was looking up PX's keyterms, I decided to look up fish... and I can tell you it's not good. Two possible interpretations:
1. I am or someone I know is going to get pregnant
2. I am going to get some sort of bad illness...

okay, I found an online dictionary and I am looking up the key parts of a dream I had years ago:
royalty
Interpretation:
Special treatment
Aspiring to fame, greatness or grandness
The highest within you
Seeking acknowledgement, attention or approval
A feeling of inferiority or superiority
stairs
Interpretation:
Ascending stairs may represent:
Moving towards a goal or opportunity
Rising to a challenge
Making progress
Upliftment, enlightenment or connection with the spiritual realms
gun
Interpretation:
Using or brandishing a gun may symbolize inner, unreleased anger or aggression
Targeting someone with harmful intent
Wanting to destroy somebody or something
alien
Interpretation:
An alien within a dream often symbolizes an aspect of yourself that is unknown to you or unacknowledged by you
A memory of a dreamtime journey to another dimension
Something unfamiliar or unusual, something that is alien to you
Not belonging, feeling like a misfit or outcast, feeling alienated
poke
Interpretation:
Inciting, nudging, goading into action
Stirring up, meddling, intruding
Searching or prying
Ridiculing
Expressing anger or annoyance
name
Interpretation:
In spiritual terms, the meaning of names are said to define the path of the soul
The name belongs to a person you know, the symbol may be drawing your attention to their dominant traits or characteristics, or your feeling about them
If the name is unknown to you, note what your overriding association with the name is, and failing this, it may be worth looking up the meaning of the name for further interpretational information
Something that is perfect for you, has your name on it
A statement, declaration or demand, name it
The main or important part of something, the name of the game
Feeling inferior, riding on someone elseā's reputation, name dropping
Doing well, excelling, becoming known, making a name for yourself
Being abusive, calling someone names
Under the authority of, in the name of
Disloyalty, being a telltale, naming names
Ownership, having something to your name
It started out with me and my parents on thrones. I went to a self and took down a lazer, and headed up a long set of stairs. Suddenly, I saw what I was after only too late. An Alien dropped down right in front of me a poked a finger into my gut and I instantly said my sis's name. I then woke up and found it all a dream. The weird part is, I felt the dream. I still can't get that dream out of my mind, it freaked me out.

I usually look up some dreams for fun, jojo, just like me following a horoscope. A majority of the time it is wrong but there have been a few cases when things have gone right... the one in my school newspaper has been pretty accurate so far (and no, it doesn't say things like 'You're going to die' which we know is true for everyone http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif )

No, Gab, it was quite different than any of those. In my yoga class, we generally use props of some sort to stabalize a pose (like putting our hand down on a wooden block) and in the dream we were using piles of soft sand. It was warm and comforting.

I have a couple of dreams where the town is the same but the dream itself is different. I don't recall having ever been to this town although I suppose it is possable. The dreams vary from odd to scary but it is in the same town. I know it is the same town although the locale is different sometimes.(town, house, riverside)
Not long ago I dreamt that I was sent flowers that were tied together with a snake and it bit my hand when I unwrapped it. (there was a lot of before and after stuff but that is one if the things that surprised me)

I don't wish to break up the discussion on Sky dream here , but I have to say something relating to my earlier commits .
I find the concept of an object having universal meaning to be sooo Freudian . Sure , an egg is associated to birth world wide , but it also can be breakfast .
Having said that , dreams are interesting . Only be carefull allowing another to tell you what you think .

I agree with you, Kreeden, but others can't really tell you what you think. You're the only one who can TRULY know what your dream is about. Sometimes a person is too close to their own ideas and experiences to see thm clearly. A little objectivity sometimes helps. It's the same thing as asking an outside opinion about a problem you're having a hard time solving. You don't have to take the advice, but it can help you see something new.

PX I know it is the town while I am dreaming and find nothing odd until I wake up and realize it was a dream in a town I have never neen too.
I think there are some things that will have close to the same meaning for most people. Like moving in slow motion while an "enemy" is in normal speed giving chase or getting away.

True, Sky, but the circumstances leading to those dreams are never the same. So I guess for the unique dreams, there isn't really anyone here who has the exact same dream so you may never find the true meaning, but close approximations...

Sky , I didn't mean my post to be directed at you or your dream . http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And yes , many things do mean about the same thing to many people . And as Princess said we can learn just by throwing an idea around , it helps give us another perspective on things . http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif All that I'm saying is that ... will , like the song say ... But that ain't the picture, it's just a part .
To understand a dream , you have to look at it as a whole , including things like what it made you feel , your reaction to it , why you reacted that way , etc , etc . As well as the symbolism in the dream . We are complex beings and our dreams are just as complex .
Oh , and as for that Freudian thing , I don't hate my mother , she hates me . :P

I had a nasty dream last night. I was at home I think, my daughter had brought a friend around who had a baby. I was talking to a little girl called Harper (who I don't know) she was teasing a puppy and I was persuading her not to. I held the baby in my arms while talking to her. I went to put the baby down and she started to cry, so I lifted her up and patted her on her bottom to comfort her and she screamed. When I looked she was very badly bruised. All her bottom and legs were black with bruises. I was horrified and went looking for her mother, who it seems had gone off to the shop. We took the baby to the hospital and phoned her mother to meet us there. When her mother arrived she went mad at us for bringing the baby to the hospital, it was then that I woke up. Anyway of understanding what that was about? I don't know anyone with a baby at the moment.

*shudder* That IS a nasty dream!
If I had dreamed that, it would probably have been about something in my life I feared I had not taken enough responsibility for.

Lettice, is your daughter a mother? Is she old enough to be? Maybe it had something to do with your concerns for her??

No, it was the daughter's friend who had the child.
I remember reading once in Jane Eyre that when you have a child in a dream, it means something terrible is going to happen... but then again that could be totally wrong too so I don't want to upset you.

lol! Nice one CK.
Well, I had one this morning, regarding me running around a church and avoiding people I knew from back home, and I was trying to get back to my dorm room. Outside though was a little freaky; I knew it was January but I saw a fully grown red tulip in bloom at the base of a oak tree. I remember how vivid the red was in the tulip too...
As for Lettice, the more I think about it, it seems like you might be trying to help someone who doesn't need help, probably someone much younger than you. It could be the result of their reputation (baby = youth/innocence of someone; bruises = harm) or yours, and yet as you try to warn them about it, they just ignore you.

For there is an Ancient Tribe in Aferica (where else, Ancients) who believe quite literally that all dreams is Life, True Life, and This waking World is the Illusion....I quite agree and would love to stay in "Slumber Land" place and home of "Nod". For they also know that there is no higher true number then "9" and that all The Rain In Spain should stay off the Plain. :|:|:|:|
My latest dream Scape that I am willing to share with you is that I was in a Church all fixed with Pews and people, that took off and started picking up people at stops. Yeah, a church, Building that just rolled on wheels. Picking up Folks. Now I could take this to mean that "shucrh" is a real "Pick-Up" for many..you see where I am going...yet I do not personally Believe in Church of any kind for anyone being a Witch and all..so while still in the dream I encountered the church folks who did something that was in accordance to my Beliefs...Yet, it also said that Many came running to the Bells of The Chapel. Let them who hear, understand. :| Now don't go putting on your Scuba Gear for it is not that Deept. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Criminey! What dramatics! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
Back to Lettice's dream for me -- I'm going through it step-by-step. You are clearly the authority figure in the dream -- you are older than everyone else, have more experience, and have all of the responsibility. You are trying to convince Harper not to do something cruel/dangerous, you are caring for the helpless baby, you make the decision on what to do when there's trouble, you and only you are answerable for your actions.
But there are some things that are out of your control -- the mother disappears and the baby acquires mysterious injuries.
You make the most common-sense decisions available -- you seek the person who is truly responsible for the baby, but she has disappeared, leaving you as the only possible person able to make a decision.
So you make the best one you can and you get flack for it.
I would say that you are either concerned for someone who is subject to these conditions of responsibility, or it describes a situation you experienced personally and you feel that it wasn't resolved well. Perhaps you believe you made the best choice but others did not agree and you feel you need to defend it, or perhaps you wish you had made a different choice and this dream is your subconscious way of helping you feel comfortable with the choice you made.
Does any of that ring true?
