Riven is a lot harder than Myst -- things are more subtle, interconnected and spread out. Don't worry about approaching puzzles right away, just explore. Explore, observe, try stuff out, keep exhaustive notes. After a while, you will start to suspect that some things are related -- and you'll probably be right http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif.

Like I said, it's a lot harder than Myst, but it is truly one of the most amazing games ever made. And you know we're here if you need a hand. Enjoy!

Spend some time wandering around.

Remember the quest Atrus has given you - trap Gehn in the 'trap' book that Atrus gave you, rescue Catherine, then summon Atrus to take you home.

Remember also that at the beginning of the game, the 'trap' book was stolen by someone. You will have to get that book back at some stage.

These are the two really big puzzles in Riven - working out how to get the trap book back, and working out how to get to Gehn.

A difference between Riven and the other Myst games is that virtually the whole playing area is available to you at the start, requiring only a few simple puzzles to be solved to be able to range over four of the five islands in Riven.

Travel round the islands, observing things carefully. Try some of the smaller puzzles first. By the time you manage to get into Gehn's laboratory you may have a clearer idea of some of the things you need to do.
