RPG - Role Playing GAame, such as Warcraft 3, Diablo, where you play the part of a character, and build up their stats and stuff. Final Fanatasy is RPG, you have Planetside (which sucks) thats a MMORPG - Massively Multiplayer Online Game, where you buildup you rcharacter etc but ina massive online world.

Counter-Strike is an FPS - First Person Shooter (pretty obvious why its called that)

Thank You very much.. man that was a very good explaining... but why is it so popular? I mean on http://www.GameFaqs.com there is a poll and they ask: What genre of game do you plan on spending the most money on over the next year? and tthe RPG is leading right now.. is it that fun.. I have WarCraft 3 and its not as fun as CS and ather FPS..

I know the Sims series is a VERY popular game, but like its name, I guess that falls in the simulation catagory.

RPG... hmmmmm..

Im surprised to hear that rpg's are the most popular.

oh yeah I forgot, maybe its those 24/7 worldwide fantasy fighter type games (like planetside) that brings the rpg numbers up.

they kinda resemble fps games with a twist, If Im correct, the game play is the same, but you just remain this 1 character the whole time, evolving his traits and strengths etc as the game goes. Aparently the game basically never ends, you just keep fighting this worldwide battle, remaining the same character that you have chosen. The fantasy part comes in because you are able to have and acquire some supernatural abilities etc etc.

RPG can also stand for Rocket Propelled Grenade. Sort of like a missle.

RPG games suck BUT a RPG launcher is cool(rocket propelt Grenade)

Actually, Diablo is an action game with RPG elements while Warcraft III is an RTS (Real Time Strategy).

RPG stands for Role Playing Game and originates (at least in my little world) with paper and pencil games like Dungeons and Dragons. These games generally consist of taking a character and building them using experience and item finding.

Computer RPG games inlcude Temple of Elemental Evil, Balder's Gate and even Fallout. Most big Online Games like EverQuest and Dark Age of Camelot are also good examples of RPGS.

Some good Consule RPGs include titles like Final Fantasy and, perhaps, Knights of the Old Republic.


Far Cry, on the other hand, is gold old fashioned FPS action! Those are the best IMHO!

Well, RPG is a very interesting game where you dont want to loose under any circumstances! It became largely popular in Afghanistan after the Soviet Union (in the 1980's) left behind many RPG's. Afghan children, as well as adults, collected many and began a game first introduced by an Afghan warlord, Akbir Al-Shantam. The rules are quite simple in theory. There are 2 teams and a "wild card" player. The object is for the 2 teams to seek out the wild card player, and try to "tag" him/her with an RPG rocket (Rocket Propelled Grenade) before the other team. The team that accomplishes this, wins. If there is a tie, i.e. both RPG's "tag" wild card player at same time; then the game goes into "Das-kanir", or "Added Time". The teams must start, or "spawn", at oppossite sides of the village, and a neutral "referee" gives a signal to go when he fires 1 round into the air from his AK-47 kalashnikova. Both teams then engage eachother and the one with most people at the end of the round, win.

Note: After the United States interveened in the Afghan government, the United Nations banned "Rasalam: Alkabar dis Quarr!" or "Battle: Chaotic Madness!" The former national pastime has been replaced by "Parker Brothers' Monopoly: Gold Anniversary Edition", distributed by the Red Cross.
