I was going nuts with the ATI 8500DV video card and URU crashing...rebooting my system. Tech Support couldn't help me. I did a bit of research and trying on my own. The solution is:

Click START then RUN then type in DXDIAG
Click on DISPLAY tab
under DIRECTX FEATURES next to AGP TEXTURE ACCELERATION click DISABLE
you will get a little notice popup ..click OK
Click EXIT...

This worked for me no problems since. This is taking into account you have downloaded the latest drivers from ATI ..my SETUP is:

PIV 2.26GHz
120GB HD
1024MB RAM
ATI 8500DV VIDEO CARD
WIN XP

If this doesn't work for your setup...let me know I have other options that might.

Yes thank you so much! This fixed my problem (from another thread) and now I can play either Uru Prime or Uru Live with no crashing at all! YAY! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Actually, I'm surprised it wasn't in the tech guide already, this has been discussed before, but I forgot about it.

Auscreely, no need for it to be a ticky, it's accreditted and being added to the next update of the tech guide -- in the mean time it is in the thread there.

I also have an ATI Card "ATI Radeon 9800XL" in a Medion computer. My problem is that the computer will freeze as I am about to link to a new age. I usually see a blue screen at this point and I am locked out. This happens with both the online and single player versions of the game.

I'll try this fix and see if it works for me. Many thanks...

Unfortunately, this fix DOESN'T WORK for NVIDIA MX440
Has anybody got any idea what i should do?
My system:
P IV, 2,53 GHZ, 512mb ddr ram
there certainly is enough space ( over 40 gig.)

Peterpawsey:

Did you make sure you have the latest ATI drivers? You can Check on ATI's sight at www.ati.com (http://www.ati.com). If you are sure you do have the latest ones then try and run the program with a clean boot. I am assuming you are using Windows XP. If so you can do a clean boot by clicking:

START...RUN ....then type in MSCONFIG....click OK....when in MSCONFIG...click SELECTIVE STARTUP ...Have only LOAD SYSTEM SERVICES checked...now click the SERVICES tab...Click HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES ..after you are sure you checked that...click DISABLE ALL...now click OK....reboot your system and run the game now. If you still have the same problems..then put MSCONFIG back to it's original settings and let me know. There are a few more suggestions. Taking it one at a time will eliminate each possible problem and when it does work will ensure you know exactly where the problem lies.

If you want to e-mail me for quicker response...you can do so...shurlox@sbcglobal.net.

Hi Shurlox,

Thank you for your advice.

I have a MEDION P4 3G. 512M mem. Graphics card is a "Medion" - ATI Radeon 9800XL.

Hyperthreading is switched on, I have read that this should be turned off. - but take your point about one thing at a time.

Currently I am using the ATI Catalyst 3.8 drivers.

I understand reading elsewhere in the forum that there are DX9 "isssues" with the 3.9 versions. But I was thinking of trying the "Omega" version of these instead - what do you think?

I am unable to turn off "fastwrite" or change my AGP setting , say from 8 to 4 as these settings do not appear in the BIOS.

I'll try the things you suggest, using the ATI 3.8 drivers first, then the ATI 3.9 drivers, and then the Omega version of the ATI 3.9 drivers. Which should keep me busy for a while http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have found a utility that MAY enable me to change my BIOS settings within WINDOWS, but I am not sure of its compatibility as yet...

Many thanks.

apparently the omega versions do work fairly well http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Peterpawsey,

Please make sure you try the original fix in the first post with the ATI 3.9 drivers. That is the driver I am currently using and have had no problems with it on a VPR PIV 1024mb 120GB WinXP system using the ATI 8500DV Video Card. I also have the latest Direct X 9.0b

Odd that you need to turn any of that stuff off. I have a 256 mb Radeon 9600 (it's a third party card, but basically an ATI ref card) with the latest Catalyst and DirectX, and it's performed flawlessly with all the graphics settings cranked up. The only difference I can see is that my motherboard will only do 4X AGP and you guys with newer systems are probably running at 8x. I remember seeing a few postings either here or on one of the othr boards that stepping back to 4X AGP from 8 helped the crashing to the desktop problem, especially with Win98SE. The only problem I've had in Prime or Live was sounds skipping or not loading right, and that was solved yesterday by replacing my older Philips Acoustic Edge card with a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS.

Shurlox

Tried MSCONFIG with ATI 3.8 drivers, but still experienced lockups exactly as before (and the DXDIAG fix noted in your first post to this thread).

Next tried exactly the same routines with the latest Omega drivers (variant of the ATI 3.9 drivers). This time I still crash, but just to the desktop, instead of being locked out.

No other settings have been altered.

What next? Should I try the ATI 3.9 drivers?

NB the new drivers allow me to disable Fast write and also to Alter the AGP setting (currently set at 8), without having to go into the BIOS. SMARTGART tab. I haven't changed these settings as yet.

Absolutely...do the 3.9 drivers with the directx 9.0b setup as shown in the first post. Remember to Reboot after these changes.

Thank you Shurlox - I will try that now...

Well - I loaded the latest drivers and it crashed again - I realised that after a day of reboots, I'd forgotten to reboot after I loaded the 3.9 drivers. So did that and currently the system seems stable finally.

Early days yet possibly, but I have linked 10 times now and not had a crash as yet.

Thanks very much Shurlox for your help. I'll post back if I have a problem again...
