If already seen, please excuse-
Interesting charts and graphs here...
http://www.firingsquad.com/print_article.asp?current_section=Hardware&fs_article_id=1478
Lomac is Down abot 3/4 the way. If you look close, they are comparing a 3200+ with a 9800 pro vs a 3400+ with a X800. Interesting info on there anyway.

Whoa, check that scaling:

X800 Pro is definately a great card for Lomac.

That shows how the graphic card was the limiting factor and by using the X800 the processor is the limiting factor.

Really? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
What I meant to show was how the X800 Pro scales between the different CPUs...an XP 2100 gets better frames than the 3400 with a 9800XT, on 1600x1200, no AA.
The 9800XT pegs at 1280x1024, while the X800 Pro still scales at 1600x1200 - 4xAA. Awesome!
(Only slightly though...imagine upgrading from a XP2100 to a 3400+ and getting a 5fps increase http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif )

TDBONE1, the "CPU-limited or GPU-limited" determination doesn't apply to software with such dynamic loads as flight sims.
You can bring a x800 Pro/3400+ setup to its knees with gfx on low, flying over water but with 1000 SAM units in the mission.
Firingsquad usually use the MiG-29 Intercept track with GFX options on High (the High-preset button), a very graphically intensive track and setup (overcast + water on high) while there's a low unit-count.

I agree. It's highly GPU dependent. I concluded in my Ram Review, Feb 7, 2004:

quote:
Well, these tests were enlightening on several fronts. First, CPU overclocking and faster RAM does not affect FPS that much in Lockon. I can only conclude from this that at these CPU speeds, other factors are more important in increasing the framerate. I believe this game is actually more video card dependent than CPU, and that my FX5900 is a bottleneck in these tests. This bears out by the higher degree of improvement seen from the Il2:FB benchmark.

You can see the results and graphs here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=38610606&m=536109981

Weatherman- Nice info on the link- Looks as if your right- Lockon is more gfx card dependant vs cpu/ram/overclocking dependant...
Thanks agn for the info...

Lomac runs well on the X800 Pro.
Just installed one today and getting a nice 75 fps only settings not on highest are water (set to high) and mirrors (set to med) with 4 X's AA and 4X's aniso. My P4 is OC'd to 3.9 though so your mileage may vary.

Well true- but from the chart shown above- I see a 14.6fps increase between the 9800xt/3400+ and the X800/3400+, and this is at 1600x1200x32!
Thats nearly 15fps faster, AND at a setting I cant even attempt to use (I would be lucky to get 7 fps at this setting) with my current setup (2800+XP and 9700 ATI pro 128m)...Amazing speeds here folks...

hmmz, the GPU bottle neck shows at a the highest resolution, but at lower resolutions, like 1024x768 and 1280x1024, the charts mostly show a CPU bottleneck.
and it has been like that for years.... low resolution --> cpu bottleneck
high resolution --> GPU bottleneck

Well after these results it's still not good enough. I want to play Lo-Mac with everything maxed out and never hit under 50 fps, then I will go out spend some cash.
Give it another year and it should be pretty close. Until then I will be happy with Med settings.

And it will continue to be like that until the end of time. Lowering the graphics options makes the GPU work less hard so naturally the CPU will max out first.
And in the low resolution benchmarks, the CPU is not bottlenecking, at least not the faster ones.
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/x800_pro_athlon_xp/images/lomac1024.gif
1024x768, no AA and there's a 8.7 fps (15%) increase on the 3400+ with 9800XT / X800 Pro. If it was bottlenecking there would be no difference.
The 2100+ is pretty much maxed out and the 3200+ isn't that impressive either, but they still scale.

id wait for the XT guys... imagine what the difference of the 9800 XT and pro was.. then translate it onto these newer cards, youll be much happier with the XT.

Are these figures accurate?
A x800 pro on a P4 2.0A beats a 9800 XT on a P4 3.0C?
That seems very unrealistic.
And it seems that the CPU has got nothing to do with FPS until we get into the X800 area.
Cheers! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Ive seen some charts already, and altho the X800xt does beat the X800 pro in all areas, I wouldnt want to live on the slim difference. Also, it was stated that while the XT was not overclockable (because its maxed out already)with much success, the pro was very overclockable with much better headroom.

Personally, I am going to wait until they come out with an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ or 4500+ and MS Windows 64 (not beta version).
Besides, I just built my system so I'm going to wait another year and a half (at least) before I upgrade anything.
