Ages are different worlds within the game. J'nanin is also an Age.

If you have not played a game like this before, it is all about exploration and discovery, looking for clues and solving puzzles. Look and explore everywhere, click on everything you see, to find out if it is interactive. Often you will find clues in the things you see and hear, sometimes you wont even recognise them as clues until you are confronted with the puzzle itself!

A little hint to get you started - the lab in J'nanin is a good source for clues! Examine everything, look in books too... and the solution to the elevator mechanism will become clear!

ps... As far as the history of the game is concerned, you dont need to know it to solve the puzzles here, and I'm not the best person to tell you the history anyway, I'll leave that to anyone else reading these boards http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

xingu,

Myst III: Exile is the third of a series begun with Myst, followed by Riven, and now Exile. The backstory is that Atrus, an heir of the D'ni civilization, was teaching his young sons Cirrus and Achenar (whom you would have run across if you played Myst) by "writing" "Learning Ages" for them to explore. The D'ni had the capability of either connecting to, or creating (never made clear which) other worlds, which they called Ages, by writing Descriptive Books that defined an Age, and then Linking Books that would take you to that Age if you touched the active picture within. So you are basically trying to retrieve from Saavedro the Linking Book to Releeshan which he stole from Atrus' home in Tomanha. The book you linked through took you to J'nanin, Saavedro's hangout with his laboratory. There are other Linking Books on J'nanin which will take you to the Learning Ages. To catch Saavedro and retrieve the Releeshan Linking Book, you will have to visit those (3) Ages and bring back a symbol from each Age to J'nanin. The symbols are used to allow you to enter Narayan, a 4th Age in which Saavedro hides.

Do you recognize Saavedro? He is played by actor Brad Dourif, who was nominated for an Oscar many years ago for "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest," and recently played Grima Wormtongue in "The Lord of the Rings."
