View Full Version : Quick Mission Tuner

Hello All,
I've had a lot of fun creating missions in FB, but wanted something to quickly tweak a mission. So I wrote this program to help me out. I'm not some if something exists already, if it does please ignore this post. I'm not even sure if anyone else would find this useful.
You can modify the weather, time and cloud height for a mission. You can also set individual plane attributes within a flight like the skill, plane skin, pilot skin and markings on or off. Or adjust the flights number of planes, skill and fuel load. All this can be done outside of IL2 FB.
Again I'm not sure if this is useful to anyone. I still have to add some saving options and do a bit more testing.
Here's a screen shot:

Sounds very similar to UberDemon's QMB which is due out in it's final version for the new patch shortly...you should not abandon your efforts, however!

Indeed, continue your work. Maybe you and UberDemon could even converse and work together. The more the merrier.

Good idea. What does this offer that the FMB doesn't?

Hi Shifty,
I like your handle. :-) It doesn't build or generate missions, it only modifies plane attributes within a current mission. It does this outside of the FMB. I use it after I've created or downloaded a mission and need to tweak it a bit by setting the skill level of a few planes or the time the mission starts without having to go into the FMB.
Thanks for your interest.

A couple of questions / comments...I was under the impression that Uberdemon's program was a klone for the QMB only with more / better options, will it work for FMB as well ?
I like your concept for FMB as I invariably forget to enter the correct number of planes, skill level, ordinance load or check the box for the players plane and don't realize it till I start testing, then I have to scroll around on the map to find the right waypoint, etc. This would be nice as it appears all the flights could be edited at one time.
It would also be nice to be able to scroll through the waypoints of each flight and adjust the altitudes. It seems like I spend more time doing this than almost anything else. I tend to add waypoints and forget to check the altitude and find when I test that planes are doing some radical altitude moves when they should be cruising along in level flight.
I would be willing to help testing.

You are right on the mark as to what I use this program for. I'm a couple of days away from having the flight's waypoints added to the program. So you can also tune the altitudes and airspeed.
And this tool does not work with the QMB, but does work for the FMB and the campaign missions.

I believe I'm finished with the Quick Mission Tuner, just some testing and suggestions. Again this is not a mission generator it tweaks or tunes an existing missions outside of the full mission builder in FB. It will also edit missions created by the dynamic campaign generator in FB.

Heloo,
I think this is a useful tool from the description and reaction to it. However I can't get it run on my PC.
I'm using win98se. When I start the program it does not generate a window. I can see "Mission Tuner" in task manager and in "System information" I can see that there are also visual basic programs running. The visual basic runtime on my machine is downloaded from the Mudmovers site.
Any idea of what might get this to work?
thanks

One of the controls in the install didn't register correctly. It's hard to tell which one. What OS are you using?

Make sure you are logged in as an administrator. If you are an administrator, then run "SFC /scannow" from the command prompt without quotes. Then re-install.

No problem happy to help, I hope we'll get it working.
There is a control or object on your system that is not registered correctly. You may want to run "Chkdsk" in your harddrive "chkdsk c: /f" from the command prompt. It will ask if you want to run it on the next restart, type "Y" and restart.
The "SFC /scannow" Scans and verifies the versions of all protected system files on your computer. It will ask to insert your SP 1 cd, insert your WinXP cd.
And you have downloaded version 1.0.28 from Yuri's site? And the download was successful? Just checking. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Okay, let's try this:

I read of other programs having the same problem as you after WinXP SP 1. The link will download a fix for the Visual Basic runtime. Let me know if that takes care of your problem.

Here's what I got from the Microsoft site:
Microsoft Windows Run-time error '-2147319779(8002801d)' Solution.
Here are the instructions if you do not wish to visit that site or if it seems unclear:
Close all programs.
Login to Windows XP as "Administrator."
Choose Start, Run, and input this command:
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
Windows will indicate that this process succeeded. Click OK.
Again, Choose Start, Run, and input this command:
regsvr32 jscript.dll
Windows will indicate that this process succeeded. Click OK.
Finally, restart your system and the program should run properly.
If this doesn't do it, you have me stumped. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Still no luck. Could you put this in laymen terms?
When you unpack the Retail Solution Site, you get the following error:
Run-time error -2147319779 (8002801d)
Automation error
Library not registered
Solution
This problem is external to Commerce Server. You must rebuild your computer because some of the primary DLLs are not registered.
The error is generated by VBScript.RegExp in VBScript.dll. VBScript.dll depends only on system DLLs and Msvcrt.dll.

In Layman terms, the computer that the message refers to needs to have the operating system re-installed.
I'm assuming you are signed in as an administrator, you have all the windows updates and you are running a good virus program.
Those dlls should have registered on your computer. If they were corrupt "SFC /scannow" would have corrected them, if they didn't exist the QMT install should have installed and registered them or the last link I sent you should have installed and registered the proper dlls.
So I'm sorry I couldn't help you out, it is a Windows issue so you may want to consider re-installing windows or asking for help in the Tech forum.
Sorry,

No problem. If you instert the WinXP CD and select Install, then choose update, it process is rather painless. An update you also keep all your current settings and programs.
Good Luck,

If you are comfortable editing your registry, go to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DiverseWare
And delete this key: QMT Edit

Thanks very much for the support. Regedit is great. Here's a funny thing: there is no mention of QMT or DiverseWare anywhere in my registry! I'm wondering if I'm missing a file or something. In the folder there are just three files:
missiontuner.exe 2317 KB 28/08/03 12:02:30
payload.mis 132 KB 28/08/03 09:14:04
quick mission tuner.rtf 4182 KB 28/08/03 12:19:12
in addition to the errorlog.txt
This couldn't be something to do with having IL2FB installed on another partition could it, QMT is on C: and FB on E:?

First it shouldn't matter where IL2 is installed. For the program to work it has to be able to read and write to the registry. If it can not it will do what it is doing for you right how. If you can't find those registry keys then that's the problem. However I don't know why the tool can not read or write to the registry.
I'm sorry I'm not more help,

I'm glad you like the tool. The bad news is I had a hard drive failure last week and lost the source code to the program. So the bugs will have to remain I'm afraid. I'm thinking about re-writing it, but that may be awhile out yet. I'd love to hear any suggestions or bugs you have so you can PM or post them here.

thx,shift_e great little program.
After it was refeuled i climbed in.With many manipulations the mechcanics started the turbines.I followed their actions with the greatest of interest. The first one started quite easily.the second caught fire.In no time the whole engine was on fire.Luckily as a fighter pilot i was used to getting quickly out of the cockpit. The fire was quickly put out.The second plane caused no trouble - Adolf Galland (first time in a ME262)

Just had to re-install everything after a hard drive replacement and had to search for this excellent utility.
So here's a well-deserved BUMP!
Cheers!

Hi Shift_e
I wrote above that I had not got your software to run. Happy to say I am now using Quick Mission Tuner with no problems.
Recently while looking for something else I found a CAB file in c:/windows called qmtuner.cab containing files for qmt that had never been unpacked - so I deleted all traces of the old installation and succesfully re-installed.
Its a very useful tool thanks!

Send me an email at qmtsupport(at)verizion.net and I can help you get started. The install I made for QMT wasn't what I thought it was. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
