View Full Version : Internet vs LAN IP addresses?

Been playing GR MP over home LAN a lot lately with sometimes a third person joining in via internet.

Home LAN is setup with cable modem connecting to main PC, then other PC connecting to main PC with ethernet crossover cable. I know that isn't as "good" as using a router, but since I only need to connect two PC's together, it works just fine.

The problem is that if I start GR when the other PC is on (and thus part of the network), when I start GR MP it sees a different IP adddress (some sort of local one, I assume) than if the other PC is off and I am playing just over the internet. If I do start a multiplayer game when the other PC is on, it automatically uses the local IP address and can not be joined via the internet. However, if I wait to boot up the other PC (on the LAN) until after I have started GR MP, it uses the "normal" IP address, which can be access via the internet. The other LAN PC then connects to this "normal" IP address instead.

It isn't really a big deal and I just make sure I go into multiplayer before I boot up the other PC (or disconnect the crossover cable).

To AJR2003,

start/all programs/ubi.com/play online

When the Game lobby loads on the first splash screen up the to click options/general settings and down the bottom under heading "NETWORK" place a dot in "Use internal IP address and click apply/ok and you should be set to roll. If you wan to game via the Internet again select the "Use external IP address"

Okay...

I figured it out. There is a setting in the Options under the Multiplayer tab. From there you can select IP address.

btw... I finally remembered my password from my original Username. (The function to e-mail me the password didn't work.)
