View Full Version : Carl, about the POSSIBLE Add-On

Carl, I gotta ask you, especially after the snake bite of Falcon 4 and the huge talk of the F-15 add-on and then the sudden closing of the office by Hasbro, is talk of an add-on at this point a bit premature, or is there something that you can't tell us?

I remember when 1.08 of Falcon came out, there was a press release even done talking about the add-on F-15 from MPS for Falcon 4. I was with iBeta at the time and we were even being told that the 1.08 patch was evolution and te 1.09 patch was supposd to be a REVOLUTION. Then BAM! All were let go, and the Dev office was closed.

Is there things in the works regarding these add on's that you can't talk about that would give me more confidence that this might actually happen (Given that any number of things can happen to stop it). Is the add-on thing dependent totally on sales of LOMAC, and is there something that you just can't discuss that would tell me this is a HUGE possibility and not just a dream project.

Carl, your word is gold with me, but once snakebit you become snake shy. Thanks.

Hi Dusty,

The problem with the flow of information in the software development and publishing world is that things change and no one person can make a commitment. I've been burned by this on numerous occassions so that is why you see me always qualify what I state in public.

Eagle Dynamics intends to create an add on for Lock On that will make the F/A-18C Hornet a flyable aircraft in Lock On.

This morning I spoke to my friend Igor Tishin, Eagle's Manager in Moscow. Igor informs me the preliminary work on the flyable F/A-18C has begun. We are in the process of working on some of the design issues for the flight and input dynamics as well as the artwork. Obviously full-time work will not proceed until after Lock On is completed.

Will it happen? I believe it will, but I caution that anything can happen. I am working on the business end of things for the first add on product and there are plenty of things that still need to be worked out.

We'd like to do plenty of Lock On add ons that make many more aircraft flyable. We'd like to do them officially with Ubi Soft, but they want to wait until Lock On is finished before making any commitments. That's their choice but we are not going to wait for them for this first add on. We can't. It will be unofficial, but we do have Ubi's blessing to do this first one without them. We also have an idea of what the first official add on or follow on would be with Ubi should they decide to proceed after Lock On is finished. Don't ask becasue I'm not going there. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I appreciate your confidence in my word, and I hope what we are working on happens, but I have to add my standard warning of "no promises".

Cheers,
Carl

Buddy, you're forgetting something. Ubi is a far more succesful company than Hasbro was at the time. I mean, look at what they have now. For one, they have Tom Clancy. They have Raven Shield, and the new RvS expantion, AND the RvS console port. They have Splinter Cell for both console and PC. These assets alone are enough to sustain them, but they've got the previous Rainbow titles that they're making money from AND Ghost Recon (AND Ghost Recon 2!), they just released FB and thats doing well, in addition to Il2 which also did well. Ubi at this point is much more sound than Hasbro and won't simply close any time soon. They will do great with Lo-mac (enough said) and many expantions will be released. I mean, take a look at the signs; Norm just said they were already starting design decisions, and Lo-mac WILL do good because its very scalable, the graphics are amazing and (most important) its similar to Flanker in realism. It will make alot of money and probably bring in NEW blood to sims. All signs point to http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. This won't be another Hasbro

Oh yeah, that F-15 addon announcement gave me goosebumps all over. Then it was all ruined by Hasbro. I was extremely angry and lost all hope for the idea of an Electronic Battlefield until I heard about LOMAC. This sim will accomplish part of Gilman's original dream of having several aircraft highly detailed modeled in one sim and it already surpasses Falcon 4.0 in the multi-aircraft aspect... I applaud Eagle for their incredible work yet again and keeping the dream alive.

It's just better this way. I don't want to steal any of Matt and Ubi's thunder.

Ubi and Eagle have an understanding of what to do next if there is a next. It's up to Ubi at this point. They want to wait and see.

Cheers,
Carl
