None of what you posted worked for me. You simply install the game and setup the sound from the farcry config when u first start and AVOID the in game sound menu as its borked and sound works fine.

Yeah, I think the key is staying away from the in-game sound options.
If you set it to 5.1 in the "Configure Far Cry" program or in the config file it should stay at 5.1
Open the console right after you start the game, mine says 5.1 Dolby loaded.
