Gehn visiting his mother at the Cleft

From reading two of the Novels, It seems that Gehn rarely visited his Mother. I understand that he couldn't link to the cleft, he didn't have the talent to produce a linking book to get there. But he did have linking books that brought him back to D'ni from other Ages he had made. Why couldn't he used one of those books to link back to D'ni?

because he didn't WANT to visit his mother. he didn't like her, and he blamed her for the fall of d'ni.

Besides the fact that Gehn absolutely hated his human heritage, and, as stated above, bllamed Ti'anna for the fall of D'ni, there's also the matter of linking rules. One of these rules dictate that you can not link from one place to another within the same world. You must first link to another Age, then link back- hence the CD changer-looking book rack that allows you to link from neighborhood to neighborhood in the Uru expansion. That book rack is actually in another Age.

So why didn't Gehn, link to another age & then link back to the cleft? I understand he wasn't a big fan of his mother. But did go there when he needed to.

Gehn would have had to be in the Cleft to Write a Linking Book to that location to begin with, so he would have had to make the trip at least once anyway. Given the fact that he was about two shakes away from hating his mother, I seriously doubt he would have had any sort of incentive to come back for Christmas every year http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

My money would be on the fact that Gehn is just spiteful enough that, in his mind, he would not want to allow Anna the satisfaction of allowing him to write a linking book to that location.
