I am concerned with the wording:
"A complete set of all three Uru titles: "Myst Uru: Complete Chronicles" will also be released, and will consist of: Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, To D'ni, and The Path of the Shell. This will be a very valuable addition to all Myst fans' collections!"
Could this mean there will be no more expansions after X-2?

I would assume as long as it is well received and PROFITABLE http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif the expansions will continue.
Where is it written?

Boy, I hope not. Think of all the empty slots in the bookcase in Relto - there's room for a lot more expansion packs!

It does kind of sound like it will be the last expansion pack.... However, need I remidn everyone that there have been numerous combo packs of Myst, Riven, and Exile put together over the years, so maybe its just a marketing ploy. Kind of buy the expanison and if you dont have the game we'll throw it in as a bonus?
However, concerning the name. It's REALLY LAME. I'm a huge CYAN fan, I mean I skipped a weak of school, faking illness w RIVEN and EXILE came out. But "Path of the Shell"? WTF? Let's be a little more creative and mysterious. Whoever created the tile, seriously needs to consider a different career path. How about one of these titles: URU: Expedition, URU: The Expedition Continues, or URU: Revelations

I may be just an optomist, but I don't read it that way, at all. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I think it is just the new packaging for Uru, and they have included the 2 XPs as a special deal, or as the "complete" collection of initial release of the game, to include the online content, developed prior to the cancelation of live. We KNEW they had to repackage the Prime Uru, since the box talks about the multiplayer online game so much, so that doesn't necessarily rule out additional expansion packs! If the first retail XP sells well, I believe they will make more of them, if not, who can blame them for not doing so. TELL EVERY MYST FAN YOU KNOW to buy it!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

"Path of the Shell" would be plenty mysterious, if we hadn't played XPack1. When Zandi first posted that text on the DRC forum, we were scratching our heads for weeks. Most thought it had something to do with the egg room http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I'm pinning this so everybody gets the good news.

Nah, a "complete set" or "complete collection" simply means it will have all of the Uru software to date. That's a good thing. I'd hate buying the game with Uru and X2 to find out I have to download X1. Or to buy Uru and find out I need to download X1 and buy X2 on top of it. Or any other number of unpleasant why-spend-more scenarios.

"Path of the Shell" - Sounds like George Lucas is and Uru Consultant.
"Down the Rabbit Hole", it's a little corny, but it invokes a feeling that 'you ain't seen nothing yet'.
I believe the Shell will lead us to the Beach...

This is terrific news. I'm sure all of the Uru fans will be anxiously awaiting the "Path". And I did say something about 3 months should be the maximum between the expansion packs, so I get to be right for once. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

but- hey i suppose the longer we wait the better it will be
so let's all get our hopes up and put some hardcore pressure on Cyan and Ubisoft
so.. who else knows the HQ of Cyan- just in case

Superb can't wait till June hopefully if enough of us purchase the expansion packs willcontinue, and in some ways its avid followers like me that will make up the "new" numbers as barriers to entry so far new PC broadband etc had prevented me from taking the journey and so...
To D,ni PLAN
May 9th (birthday)try to jusitfy new computer
June get Path of the shell
Rest of the year dissapear to D,ni :-))
I am sure that I have read elsewhere that adding a graphics card to a laptop is impossible? hence the need for the new PC

This is excellent timing - it's just two days after my birthday and I can wait two days for something that is worth waiting for.
I just hope it's released in the UK at the same time as it's released in the US - otherwise I will be mad http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif
The fact that we still have three months to go makes me think that it will actually be released pretty much on schedule - afterall they have three months to get it de-bugged and working properly. Still I have been known to be wrong before so no doubt I will be wrong again http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif
Like Maztec, I believe that the Complete Chronicles title is just a way of getting the original game and both the Expansion Packs bundled into one. It doesn't mean that there will be no more to come, it's just that that is all there is at the moment.
When they bundled Myst, Riven and Exile into one pack that didn't mean that there would not be any more games to follow - it just meant that was all there was at that point in time.
Now I just hope I'm right about that one http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Don't know if you are aware of the fact that Uru was released here in the UK one day BEFORE it was released in the States. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif This bodes well for "The Path" I think. ... if this expansion pack is anything like To D'ni, then it might be of no surprise that this next pack will "complete" the URU series.
Is it just me, or was the 'free' pack horrible? "Lets calibrate the great Zero, trying to find markers without a compass; then progressing to make all 3 functions of the compass work on the final calibration to float away in some magical blue dust"
The graphics again were gorgeous, the music, gorgeous. The gameplay? What a joke. Luckily it was free, because if I had to pay for it I would have been really peeved. Theres nothing I love more than running around back and fouth, watching load screens -still, even with the speed of my system it was annoying- trying to find friggen randomly placed markers.
Where is the puzzle? Where is the intellect needed to "solve" the problem of turning on the power to the place? Calibration? hahaha.
That was sad ... and now that I've used up my $40 gift cert. from UBI on SplinterCell Pandora Tomorrow (which I obtained free by complaining about URU in the first place) well I guess that means I won't be spending any money on the URU expansion.
I just see no compelling reason while not being an URU "obessesion". Which I'm afraid will be the only real audience; because the "game" -more like digital hike- is horrid aside from the graphics and sound.
Cordie

Well I actually enjoyed finding those final 4 callibration markers because I did think there was some skill involved in working out the co-ordinates and finding out where they were http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I don't mean to be a pain, but can anybody tell me when there is going to be a Mac version to this game? I am extremely disappointed that Cyan has chosen to partner with a company who doesn't care about Mac users---including the CEO of Cyan itself. But I thought I read somewhere here that UbiSoft has finally made plans for a Mac version after cancelling UBI Live. Can anybody confirm this?
Also, I used to be able to post on this board with my preferred browser, Safari. Now this board will not accept my log in unless I am using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Would it be possible to get this fixed? Thank you!
Sincerely,
Edward J. Cunningham

Yes, it has been confirmed:
http://mystworlds.ubi.com/US/About/SignUp.htm
Read the "Good News" part of the message. I'm sure the reason Ubisoft went to the PC first was to try and get a good customer base for "Live". Although in retrospect, they probably should have done both platforms at the same time. Perhaps then they would have had enough users to keep "Live" going for awhile.
eddiejc1
04-03-2004, 04:18 AM
I'm glad to hear that. I probably need to send Rand an apology, but when I felt that Mac users were being ignored I was livid. Maybe the bright side of waiting all this time is that when the Mac version is ready they will have fixed all the bugs that may have existed in the PC version...

Kangizroo, I am sorry to be have to tell you that URU Live no longer exists http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
It was shut-down at the beginning of February due to the lack of subscriptions. I am sure if you read some other posts on the forum you will learn more about what happened.
However, you are able to download a free Expansion Pack for your single player game which will give you the same content that we had for the start of URU Live - which was called The Prologue - and then on 23rd June you will be able to buy Expansion Pack 2, The Path of the Shell.
Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings. We were all very upset about what happened.
In the meantime, I hope you stick around and join us on the forum http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Path of the Shell may not be the best name in the series but it can evoke some mysterious environments. To me at least. For example shells, in this case seashells have been found on the peaks of huge mountain ranges suggesting the mountains were once covered by the oceans in real life. In this vein perhaps Xp2 will involve ancient paths of relics or travelers in enexpected locations. We have that in Uru and earlier Myst games but still maybe it will be as good or better in the new release.
Taken more literally maybe there will be a set of spiral steps, taken after the spiral in a seashell, that go up a large tower or two in Xp2. And every other level or story in the structure could have doors or openings leading to side rooms off the main spiral stairs. Something like what I see in Morrowind structures. I dig stone, wood or earthy spiral staircases. What can I say. I look forward to the June release. We'll see what happens.
i don't know if im posting this in the right place, but here goes:
i went to the pathe of the shell (mystewrious) website, an i clicked on the leftmost link, with the d'ni coordinate sys on it, and it gave me this:
X=cos(T)+Tsin(T)
Y=cos(T)-Tsin(T)
I dont know if anyone picked this up, but those can be "plugged in to a TI-83 calculator, such as my own. i did so, and the graph design came out as a shell.
I looked over the other pages, they were pretty mysterious, even the source code was.
they even said that i wouldnt find anything there.
i dont know if what i said was helpful or not, maybe you already knew.

Sorry, I posted this reply in another thread and I write the same here:
"Hi, I live in Spain and I think Pots won't be released here or maybe not in June or July. The thing is I can't wait and as it is impossible to pre-order with amazon (for the moment), what do you all think about www.play.com (http://www.play.com) or special.reserve.com? They say they deliver it to Spain as well and they deliver it for free. Anyone has ever pre-order with any of these two?"
Thanks.

Well, I guess it's time to update the title of this thread. Press release says July 13 now. Also says this is the LAST expansion pack for Uru.
The ride was fun while it lasted. Let's hope PoTS is a BIG expansion!

p.s. and I'm not very good at this style of game, but I'm hooked big time.
Perhaps this has already been said on the forums, but I haven't seen it. On the Mystworlds website the release date for PotS is June 13, not July 13... Maybe someone can fix it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So since it is now 18th June, I take it that all of you in the US who pre-ordered it have their copies of POTS and are already playing it? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif
If so then why have we not had it here in the UK - I thought it was a world-wide release all at the same time?

I have made the suggestion that sometime in July we could retroactively release PotS back in June 13th. That way, we could all have fun with the expansion pack and still give the Cyan dev team another month or more to tweak the release.
This has added advantages as well for both the consumer and as a selling point for Ubi... We can read the reviews of the game and get player feedback long before it is completed as to be tooled exactly as Cyan/Ubi wants it. If we take this same approach of retroactive releases even farther, we can have our favorite Dev teams begin to develop only those games that will be wildly successful even before the projects begin.
For a decent example of this marketing and development strategy, I recommend renting and viewing Mel Brook's Spaceballs, where Dark Helmet is able to rent the movie Spaceballs to find out where the protagonists had fled to. Hey, it worked for them.

In good time honored Myst related Ubi tradition I expect POTS to be delayed at least until the end of August and then in november Ubi will claim that only 5 copies was sold world wide and that there will be no more URU expansionpacks.. I mean it IS called the COMPLETE CHRONICLES isnt it so it kind of shows already that they decided nomatter what they "claim"..... it really stinks and reaks of that lame excuse already as was done with UruLive and its what I expect of a company like Ubi..
... yes.. im still furious about UruLive! can you tell?
Time will tell ofcourse but I have my doubts..

I wish I could have your anger, your passion about the situation. I suppose I'm something of an accepter. I can accept that UruLive was far more difficult to transfer into a live multi-player game, than was expected. So much so, that resources dwindled quickly. Now that may be lame or it may be nothing more than economics, but it didn't make it any less of a good game despite its many problems, delays and apparent engineering difficulties. Personally, when I could get in, I enjoyed it. I found the artistery, background and mental dimensions of Yeesha, the continuation of the family legacy, etc. all living up to my expectations of what Myst has always done and stood for. Another disturbed family comes to power. But seriously.... Sure I feel differently about each different game, even the expansions hold something on their own. It never was contest about which one was best. The game is half of what you make of it. My belief is that PotS will follow admirably in the family footsteps even if its released years from now.
Perhaps to cheer your heart, I am stalking directors of the game until they release the expansion, which is to say I afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. The expansion *will* be released.
I ... can't... wait!

I think the July 7 release date applies to the download version only.
Here's the information supplied on the Ubisoft Order page:
"You can avoid shipping charges and download the digital verison of the Myst Uru: The Path of the Shell expansion pack on July 7th. Check back here on July 7th for more details on the download."
ALL, if you've pre-ordered and would rather have the download, you will need to cancel your pre-order if you don't want the CD. The download announcment couldn't come any sooner because they needed to make sure it would work. But, because shipping charges are involved with the pre-order, you won't be able to just transfer the order over to the download.

donna_marie, I may have the wrong site, but according to this link (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002C6LCM/qid%3D1088200932/026-0366399-2621276) to Amazon.com/uk, the release date is still July 9, 2004.

so.. I thought POTS would be CD only, does the fact that it will be downloadable as well mean that its really small and dissapointing?.. I mean the first so called xpack was more a teast/demo than a real xpac.. and I thought this would be like a REAL EXPANSION PACK.. but if its like really tiny......and first they were gonna make lots of xpacs.. and now they say nomore.. and that there will be "Something Else (TM)" so if this sell will they string us along again and change their minds again.. like they have done so bloody many times before?..
COULD YOU PLEASE FOR F****S SAKE DECIDE WHAT YOUR GONNA DO AND STICK WITH IT?

Well... I already put in my pre-order along with the music cd, so HEEK I'm just happy it'll show up sooner rather than later!
The fact that it'll be downloadable does not mean that it will be smaller by any means. In fact, if you're on dial-up you'll still want to by the boxed version. Consider that 'To D'ni' was, what, 178MB? That was just to change a lot of the content which came with the original game so that it could be played by a single person. Plus Kirel Hood and some other goodies.
With the next, you're talking about new content and whole Ages. So, it'll most likely be a rather sizable download. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Not something you'll want to go for if you don't have broadband service...

Yes, it was a play on the word ages and moose and squirl was a play on the 2 packages coming out to (as in complete cronicals, and POTS expntion). But with a strange twist.

Donna_marie, you were looking at amazon.com, not co.uk.
This heading can be changed again. It's 7th July for download and American retail, 8th July for UK ubi and 9th July for UK remainder.
I have some sympathy for orealis' view. Since To D'ni and PotS will be on the same CD, the maximum size that PotS can be is about 450 Mb. I really hope it's bigger than To D'ni, whatever that does to download times.
