Hey folks. Me and Little_Donkey were chatting on MSN, and we were talking about effects and such. So we came up with the idea of creating a thread about this.
When making movies, adding effects to it, be it sound or on-screen effect, helps improve the feel and look of the movie. You can add those lens-flares, saturation effects, brightness and so on.
If you have any tips on how to make a lomac movie look more real, post it here! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
If it's hard to explain, make a 3 sec movie with the effect(s) added and show us.
Working on a new movie as i type this, and i'm using all kinds of effects.
Cheers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I always turn the view distance all the way down while making the missions to fly. They seem to look more real w/the haze in the air.

mmm lens flares are good, but dont over do it
when having a sunset in your picture, tint the saturation/contrast/brightness levels to achieve a good effect
thats all i can think of now

yeah, that water effect would look so cool ingame.
I don't know if I have any good effects suggestions, but people seemed to like the "fast cuts, b&w images, fade from white effect" I did for the satellite pics in Intercept. It makes a nice photo kind of effect...

my favorites are:
- x2 speed (all though you will loose pic quality)
- Saturation (on both ends can create good effects).
-Using other strategically placed objects (planes, vehicles, heli's, etc.) to get new camera angles.
-Pic in Pic or overlaying cockpit views with precise timing is also cool.
-FLIR cams are great, and I will be making a full FLIR cam movie, the techniques vary but consist of b&w, invert, and various text bars to simulate data input. I did some very poor "on the fly" shots in Silent Scorpion, but I will post a revised one.

I have recorded some small nuclear like explosion videos by the built in avi recorder.
It is a time consuming job to render those light and smoke, but the effect is awesome!(about 50M radius of explosion and 100M radius of smoke!!)
All you have to do is drop 30+ ZAB-500 at almost the same time(I have ever drop more than 100+, but not so much different.)
Hope you add this in your new movies!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Glowing_Amraam,
I noticed on your "Superior Fighters" video that you edited with Vegas. Did you have to use any additional plug-ins or extra software to accomplish all of the effects seen in the movie?
Also, how would you rate Vegas when looking at untuitiveness? How does it compare to Premier Pro not only in terms of user friendliness, but features? I have been using Sound Forge for many years and wonder if I would have a leg-up in terms of familiarity with the interface.
Thanks.

Hello letterboy.
All effects you see in the movie was accomplished by the features that came with Vegas. No plug-ins were used. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
I would say Vegas is more user friendly than Premiere. It has a lot of good features, both with editing and audio. You can mix your sound in 5.1 audio if you want to http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
Vegas is very easy to learn, and it is very powerful as well.

Glowing_Amraam,
that sounds very encouraging! I don't need every trick in the book, just a good solid video editor. I will take a very serious look at Vegas. I bought Sound Forge 4.5 (some years ago) and I still haven't used any software that is as usefull and trouble-free.
Thanks.
