View Full Version : Understanding Number of views in a forum

I'm a little confused on how the number of views on a post increments. In a private topic, between me and another guys, after only 2 days it says 134 views. I know I've only looked at it 2-3 times, and I doubt he's looked at it 130 times. So how do these numbers increment.
Say for public post, namely like Polls, I see 1,000 views, but 100 people voted. is it safe to assume the other 900 views were just visitors ?
I'm also assuming that once I view something, the number doesn't go up, if I view it again. But that's assuming there is a tracking mechanism in place, which may not be.
In 30 words or less, can someone tell me how the numbers increment ?

I would even love to hear an answer on this..lol
I have sent members PM's before with just me and them in it and I get the same..within a few days..view goes up sometimes to 5 or 6.I can't imagine the member has reread it 4 times.

Yep, I have absoulutely no clue. At first I thought the forum was screwy when my PT's between infydave and I had 1,069 reads when I had only read it once...but then I realized that davey was just obssessive http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I agree Mrmetal...once the SDK comes out the mods will be much better.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif
I tend to think UBI pays some one to read every PM that is sent for $18 an hour...

as far as polls/posts your right, it counts every view, and 900 didnt vote. however i have watched view count increase just by viewing myself multple times, so there isnt a tracking mechanism as far as each user only counts once. because each user might view it multiple times, after different posts, and to not count the view after new posts would be... weird.
as far as the PM's thats a weird one. although i can say ive never seen it on mine. maybe your PT partner is just looking for a reply rather then looking at the inbox and seeing 'last post by'
