XNedra,
All who registered for the Prologue January 15, 2004 and earlier should be able to log on to Live. Due to an unforseen circumstance, many did not receive the formal invitation at the time their account was activated. When you launch Uru, select the "Uru Live account" below "Play Uru" to administer and activate the Live option.

hey, Heuris, by any chance do you know if they'll make it available to 56k ussers?

[Shudders]... typical bandwidth requirements are in excess of that achievable with a 56K modem. Yes, you can connect, but you'll likely not be satisfied with the frame-rate of quality graphics or the graphics quality necessary to attain acceptable frame-rates.

Online games are quite heavy with the textures and scripts to run.
A typical cd game of 20 megabytes would equal around 100 mb for the web. (these are not actual numbers and are just to make a point)
In order for you to play a game online, your computer must grab all the textures and scripts. Then it can run the game. The problem is in the download, plus, the actual "game" is going to be quite large in mb size as well. Becouse of these, dialup will never be good for online gaming. (yes, you can play the simple games, but nothing like URU and such)
You also need a top of the line graphics card to boot.
I'm pointing these things out to give you a reason that URU won't be acceptable for dialup users.

Not to mention the SHEER AMOUNT OF DOWNLOAD TIME for each Age! Good golly -- I could go to the store and back in the time it takes to link to a new Age! And that's WITH a cable modem.

Cabal is available in my area, just not yet affordable. We get a much better deal for MSN dial-up through Costco

Actually Princess, Age update and link speed is more a factor of your hardware than of network bandwidth. Processor speed, the amount of physical RAM, and the rate of data transfer to and from the hard drive have the most significant impact on transitions. Yes, there's alot of information being sent over the wire (to the point where 56K is grossly inadequate), but it's mostly how it's handled once it gets there. Then again, you need to go to the store sometime http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Really? I'm running a 2.5G CPU and 512MB DDR RAM. I'm surprised to hear that that is inadequate. Well, maybe I'll add another stick of RAM in a few months when the price drops a bit.

Actually, dialup Uru Live is possible, even with the updates and such. I know this because I have tried it before, as an experiment. After getting through the updates(which took a few hours to download), the game ran quite smoothly, to be honest.

The catch? It always disconnected my computer from the internet, thus freezing Uru.

So, dialup is possible,I suppose, but unless there's a way to stop it from disconnecting, it really wouldn't work.

Cable is definately the way to go.

Well I really wasn't saying your 'puter is inadequate. What your running is probably in the top ten percentile. I can say that another 512MB of RAM will make a big difference though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

You can *NEVER* have too much RAM.

You sound like my husband http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

We run a couple of clunker Pentium 2s, with much too much RAM. We get by.
