FARCRY in openGL or d3d?

hey,
it says in the farcry book i can select between running the game in open GL or D3D, when i check the option box it wont let me change between the two???(stays on defult d3d)whats going on?? i have a GFORCE 3 TI 4200 might that be my problem.....(with latest drivers)
