After spending literally hours perfecting a technique on importing BF1942 heightmaps (only to find a tutorial on how to do it afterwards) I have come up with a method to get near perfect 1:1 copies of any BF1942 map into Far Cry.

I started with El Alamein because I know it better than any other map, and it's a great map. I plan on doing all of them once the SDK is out (it makes little sense to have these maps without tanks and aircraft).

This is El Alamein as it is in BF1942 (actual map).

This is a screenshot from within Far Cry. (note the building and sandbag outlines are for reference only and were added in Photoshop)http://www.greg-j.com/files/FC_Alamein.jpg

I know the texture and lighting is way off, but I haven't gotten that far yet. If anyone would like to help with texturing, lighting or 'furnishing' these maps, email me at greg@xplaygames.com. I would love the help. (as well as some feedback)
