I downloaded the demo in November, 2001, and received GR for Christmas. I subsequently found excuses to receive DS and IT as gifts :-)

Man, considering how much I've gotten from this game, it's cheap (as in inexpensive) by any standards.

I've played LAN play with my sons - fun. This week, I've played multiplayer on the Internet - whole lot of fun. In fact, I've now met some great guys on the other side of the world, and enjoy playing with them. Then I installed ASE, and a new world opens up.

And today, I finally decided to try a different kind of quick mission, and to turn off the TI. Played SAR and defend. Wow, whole new game.

Hey, I've read that, when selecting mods, you have to either exit/reenter the game or use the mod manager (which I've installed).

Is that still true after the 1.4 patch?

I've had a few mods kick me out to desktop, but most seem very stable so far.

Now if I could just kick this habit of sleeping ...

Man, I could have just about written your post. Except, my kids aren't old enough to game against yet, but just wait!

I'm just starting to dip into the mods myself, and from what I've seen already, it's just amazing. What's ASE? Sounds like something I need.

I haven't tried multiplayer on the internet as yet... perhaps some time I will, but I'm having too much fun playing single player.

I played through Rogue Spear, RS: Urban Ops, and Black Thorn all in single player and had a blast. I then played a little multi-player, but I have to say that while lots of folks were nice, the ones that weren't made it more annoying than it was worth. I have no interest in racing around and shooting away as much as possible and would rather set up great field position and take em out one shot at a time. But that's what makes it so great is everyone can do their own thing.

Yeah, that's why I held off on multiplayer, too. But then I was very lucky when a couple of guys from Denmark asked me to play, and we played co-op.

Soon I'm going to try some other servers. Hopefully, that'll be fun.

Actually, I posted another message on the tech board, asking about finding good servers, because my one experience with some anonymous guys, while fun, was exasperating. But hopefully, practice will help.

ASE is "All Seeing Eye" and it's a tool for finding active servers out on the Internet. It's truly cool. I've never tried ubi.com, though, so I can't say - ubi might be just as good.

Basically, when you run ASE, there are icons on the left side of the screen, which represent different games which work with ASE. Click on Ghost Recon, and a list of servers shows up in the left pane.

You can even drill down, and select, for example, those GR servers which are currently playing co-op games (or team games, etc). You can also select those which have the Threat Indicator (none show up!) or off (they all seem to play with it off).

You can find it at http://www.udpsoft.com/eye (specifically at http://udp.speakeasy.net/EyeInstaller.exe). It has a 21-day limit, so I need to try it out some more before I decide whether to keep it.

Anyone out there using ubi.com?

I use UBI as a means of getting the m8's together then we dump UBI and game direct IP.

To theBattsman,
Insert the GR disc in the drive. Let it start. From the options that appear choose "Play it on UBI" It will take you thru the game service set up.

Yep 37 years of age with one foot in the sh@t at all times and I'm Aussie through and through so don't hold that against me/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif Your just like me I played Q3 and have to stop after about 10 min due to my eyes in the back of my head and the rocking motion of nauseous. I though I was weird but soon found that I'm not the only one effected by these style of games.

Well, my oldest boy is 9 and is now enthralled with the game. I have "blood" turned off, and he has his head on pretty straight, so I don't think I'm ruining him.

We've played LAN several times now, and today I actually let him join in a Net game, warning him to be very careful not to shoot any mates (should have warned myself). He did pretty well (no kills, but no tk's, either).

I think he just enjoys the playing. He doesn't care if he gets kills.

Me, that's another story :-)

Wombat, thanks for the tip on ubi.com. I installed it, applied the patch, but at first glance I do find ASE more intuitive. I'll check it out in more depth.

Right now, I'm doing like Snipe21. I see servers on ASE and try them out from within the game. Those I like I keep in the game (only one bad experience so far, where the hosts camped out at our insertion point - I was our last team member, but I couldn't insert without getting whacked).

I bought the game a year ago and still find it enjoyable and challenging. I don't play MP as much as I like.I always have the fear that my connection and computer will cause problems for others. I have had very few bad experiences playing MP, if you don't consider getting killed a lot. If I had played nothing but the original, and expansions I probably would of grown tired of it along time ago. All the mods, MP, and these forums are what has made it last for me.

Have you downloaded ASE? Basically, I've tried different servers I found on ASE, and except for one, all have been good. I did log on one the other night that I had to leave. Lot of cursing, and my son was watching the game.

I found that battalioncommand has three SAR (team) servers, and have tried them. So far, they've been good. Some mainly play team, some, coop. I like both.

One great experience was coop on the "War Dancers" server, when they were playing the BOOM missions. Oh, man, intense. Only one of my pc's would play it, though - lots of tanks, smoke, you name it.

I haven't tried hosting yet. I'm behind a router, and haven't messed with opening any ports. We can always try to get some of us together, too.

If you haven't gotten ASE, I suggest you try it. Pretty cool. You can get it at http://udp.speakeasy.net/EyeInstaller.exe

Hey, I'm brand new here and I'm 42. Just soaking it all in.

Killed my first friendly today in SP - ouch! Some guy screamed "Murphy!". Whatever...I'll figure it all out eventually.

In MP, can you play for a short time and bail? Or are you committed to a long period of time. I'd like to try multi-player at some point but I don't get long periods of time on my rig where I can do whatever I want.

Well, I finally have a gripe /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif and a question.

The gripe - apparently, only 12 servers can be stored in the options.xml file? I stored more, but only 12 show up in the game /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I can handle that, just curious why, since xml elements were used, more than 12 weren't allowed.

So, my question. I am behind a firewall (my router), so before I host an Internet game, I suppose I should set the <BehindFirewall> element to TRUE? Not that I see any need to host one, with all the great servers I've already found. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I think we're getting up a community here.... I just turned 40 myself. Snipe, no wonder I always enjoy your posts!!

But hey: in sports I think they call the over 35s the Masters, right? They're not just trying to make us feel good, are they?

Battsman, thanks for the legwork on the good servers. I might actually venture into multi sometime since you've paved the way. I just don't usually have a lot of time to spend on it at any one time, so I don't like to mess around too much and then just find out I wasn't having any fun. Maybe I just had a couple bad experiences a couple years back on Rogue Spear, but it was very similar to back in my paintball days... we ended up only going to play paintball when we could get up enough folks to get our own field. Too many jerks out there when you just pick up whoever walks in that morning. Doesn't make the game any fun at all. I like competitive and clean.

Anyway, Battsman, since I know you're checking out some of the mods, I got the Free Libya campaign from www.locogamer.com (http://www.locogamer.com) (I think it's called FL-AVA) and it installed clean and has been pretty fun playing it in SP mode.

I was getting acquainted with lapio and presumed him to be male. I wrote a lot of things I would never mention to the fairer sex. He made mention of how difficult it can be to identify someone's sex over the Internet, and that in fact he was female. I passed it off as a good joke.
I mentioned this to snipe(co-conspirator #2) in a PM and he replied that it was no joke, lapio was a gorgeous 21 yr old female. Well, I was most embarrassed in my comments to lapio/female and messaged her how sorry I was. She was very understanding about it, which was hard to fathom as I had asked lapio for a picture to put in my shower going along with what I thought was a joke. I could not sleep thinking about what an idiot I had been. When I went to work the following day I slowly went from embarrassment to becoming deeply infatuated with lapio/gorgeous female. Yes the old fossil had been conversing with a beautiful young blond from Finland. I even imagined becoming engaged one day. Oh, how I was crushed when lapio and snipe confessed to their prank. When I fall, I fall hard. I hope you are not a complete idiot, like myself, and fall for such foolishness.

During my time as a gamer of Ghost Recon I have meet a wide range of individuals from all corners of the world. I have laughed and shared the emotions of so many that has posted in these forums along with words of harshness. I have given help to many and many have given help in return, but one thing always remains the same! we all share a common interest despite our life's outside the game. If it wasn't for the bonds of comradeship and the fun we all seek, then here would be a dull and lonely place.

Many gamers I know by name and others by gamer tags, then there are the select few that receive the more mate like friendship where the contact is on a regular basis by what ever means possible. To all gamers that have gotten to know me over time I sincerely thank you for making my time here fun. I treat all as equals no matter what the age or sex and on my final point this thread is what it's all about.

The fact you are undecided on the matter leads me to think you have never actually met one in person. I gotta tell you they are defineitly not all thier cracked up to be.

I have heard some terrible stories of just some of thier exploits.

Like:

Drinking problem: They are a country of drinkers! If you want to socialise with these people, arguably one of the more backward nationalities, there is no other way to do it than over a drink or three. This may be fine for some people, but all the time! I ask you? In my opinion it would be nicer if they would congregate around, oh, maybe art exibitions, the opera or theatre for a change, but this never happens, truely an uneducated race.

Sense of humour (?): Have you ever actually had to have a conversation with one of these people? They see a supposed "funny side", even in the most absurd of things. Take the Crocodile Hunter for instance. They find it extremely funny that the Americans find him funny and yet are completely unable to phathom the humour Steve Irwin has more or less turned into an art form that would rival the likes of the great Sienfeld, Pee-Wee Herman and David Letterman among others. On that note I must say that the majority of them have not the slightest tolerance of mr Letterman, I know shocking isn`t it?

With the risk of sounding like one of them (going on and on and on about BS) I must point out one more fact before I leave and let you make your own desisions...

Prized Job: It is a little known fact that Australians aspire to just one occupation. I know at this point you are thinking, Prime Minister, Doctor, Lawyer or the higher ranks of the armed forces. Sadly this is not the case. You will find this extremely hard to believe, but I can assure you this is what the majority of Australians consider the ultimate "job"

Head Sewerage Inspector!!!! The competition for this position is positively fierce. The Head Sewerage Inspector at present is The one and only Honourable Mark XXXXXX, or as he likes to be known "Snipe21". There are monuments to this man in every capital city and most regional centres. Many of the population, especially the older generation have portraits of him hanging in prominate positions around their homes. His home is of palatial proportions and is heavily guarded around the clock by his own private army for fear of assination attempts by those who would seek to take this most revered appointment for thier own political gain.

I tell you, I`ve been around the world a couple of times or maybe more, I`ve seen the sights, and had delights on every foriegn shore. But when the my friends all ask me the place that I abore I tell them right away.

**Oh, I've seen the doctor for this but when I mentioned "Snipe" he got pale.
Whilst stuttering "SsszznIPE? You mean SsszzNIPE?" he emptied 2 glasses of water and left.
Never found out if he was laughing or crying.

To cndsniper: we can certainly use Canadian backup to oppose these Aussies' spamming of the board while we are at work or asleep (the latter not necessarily at work)

In the beginning it was known as "Prisoners Island" and the definition compared it with a 90 year old woman: "Everybody knows where to find it, nobody wants to go there to get it".
Then an undercover agent - who by mistake had a relation with a 90 year old woman - found it his call or mission to correct what he believed was a global misunderstanding. Because of his lobbying, "Australia" was adopted as the new name.

Australia adopted the accent of New Zealand, and has since been spamming these boards. Now they are trying to export the accent via New Zealand to Canada and I believe next thing is, they claim to be the ones who discovered the Americas in 1492.

See what I'm aiming at? They're attempting to take over the world! It's about time 007 shows up or Spiderman or Batman to stop that. Otherwise "Murphy's Law" becomes a rule of the day :-)

Oh, man, we must have played for over six hours today! We are such geeks!

The first 4-5 hours went really well, then Snipe joined us /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I am amazed at how Lapio and Snipe managed to stay focused, after I lost it at the end. The last mission, we worked really well together until I T/K'ed Snipe.

Again. Just like the last time we played. Gotta get him at least once per session /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

My son had just walked in, right after I had typed "D*MN" on the screen. My son is just now sounding words out, so he said, "Dad, why did you write 'd*mn'? I couldn't quit laughing, which made it worse, and told him don't say that in front of his mother. So, of course, he started laughing, and I couldn't quit.

So he and I are sitting here laughing, I keep getting killed after that, and Snipe is back out there pretty much by himself, because Lapio is wounded in the leg and dragging his useless leg around.

All in all, very funny.

Ok, seriously, since you ask, it sounds like you and the host aren't patched to the same level of the game.

To be completely up to date, you should have Ghost Recon, Desert Siege, Island Thunder, and apply the 1.4 patch. If you have only Ghost Recon, you'll need to find a host that's playing only Ghost Recon. And you'll need to be patched the same, so find out what patch the server has.

Do you have DS and IT? They're worth it, trust me. Also, if you have friends who have the game, you can always try connecting directly.

First action, though, is determine what upgrades and patches you have. Let us know, and we'll try to help.

Don't worry, your English isn't that bad.

The problem you may be having is that your Ghost recon isn't updated to the latest version. You can find the version number of your game in the lower right hand corner in the main screen of the game. If you have bought Desert siege and Island thunder expansion packs you only need to download the 1.4 update. If you haven't bought them and you only have the original Ghost recon, you'll need to download the 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 patches.

You can find the updates from <u>HERE (http://www.ghostrecon.com/patch.php)</u>.

If you know that your game is updated to the latest version, you might be trying to enter a game that is using some modifications or expansion packs you don't have.

But see first that your game is updated and try joining the games then.

I see, you have the gold edition. Then I guess your game is updated to the latest version. Then you may be missing out on some modifications (mods) that the host is using. Also, make sure you have both Desert siege and Island thunder activated in the options->mods menu before you start the ubi.com program.

I have already activated Desert Siege and Island of Thunder.
I tried to install the 1.3 and it show me a message like this. YOU HAVE A NEW VERSION...
So i try to instal the 1.4 and the message say that i need to install first the version 1.3
But when i open my game and i see the version it is 1.4.
I guess i should un-install the game and reinstall it.

I don't think you need to, but you can try. If I remember correctly the gold version is already updated to version 1.4 when you install it. So that means you don't have to download any patches after you have installed it.

Try looking in this forum and in the tech support forum for topics that mention the ubi game service. You might find some useful information there. Look for replies that have been written either by Wombat50 or Snipe21.

I've never really used the ubi.com program so I'm no expert in it.

Also, you might want to try ASE (the All Seeing Eye). It's a great package for finding GR servers. Shows you what mods are running. You can also filter; for example, if you want to play team play (or coop) you can filter by that.

Oh, and this forum has a servers section, too. Check it out as well.

Of course, there are actually many reasons - psychological, mental (he's right about the nursing home, you know, and we do get kind of whacked out), physical (the gun hand gets kind of tired and numb after six hours (no comments, Snipe) of GR. And he just makes such an interesting target, with his lag - warping to and fro like a whipper snapper. You just have to shoot him once in a while /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

wombat50 It make you wonder doesn't it!!! Thx for the email on the gunslinger roflmao. After Batts had TK himself today with a grad I just remembered I did it too on Mission 2 Eager Smoke after being informed to check the map. Well it appeared simple enough toss a grad over the cliff just below me and eliminate tango Bernie.

I'm beginning to think that tossing grads up cliffs and over cliffs can't be done or the GR scripting only allows them to go up and then come down at your feet. I will have to some testing because it's not the first time it's happened.

Oh yeah, that was hilarious. Meanwhile, I was at the base below, and had a clear view of the tango - and COULDN'T SEE HIM. Dang this good eye, it keeps moving around.

Fortunately, my son, who was still laughing at my 'D*MN' comment and me T/King Snipe, has better (and younger) eyes than I do, and pointed at the tango. I shot him (the Tango, not my son).

The software you are talking about is called mods, that's short for modifications. You can find these in the links I will post below. I'll also include a link to a page that tells you how they work. Once you have installed them, you need to activate them from the same menu in the options where you activate or deactivate Desert siege and Island thunder. Find your way to the download section in the following pages, there you can find loads of different mods for this game.

To sports,

I must first point out that is would be wise to invest in a bullet proof vest to game with these bed wetters as some of them cant see there muzzle flash. Because of this you also appear to be looking like tango Bernie. You also have to be prepared to push some of these dribbling wheel chair bound gamers around some of the more difficult missions. From time to time you have to endure the foul smell of one of them breaking wind and at times changing there pants to continue the mission. It's not a easy life gaming with the older farts but they shore can spin a few yarns (any yarn about me is deemed to me false).

Another problem we have is that due to poor eye sight the compass readings tend to be incorrect. So there you are facing to the south west searching for a visual that was given and in actual fact you should be facing north east. What I'm trying to say is that you may have to putt that extra effort in to make up for the short full. For some reason I commend Lapio with GJ and he for some reason responds with FU followed by oops TY. Lapio is an important part of this game as he plays a big part in helping me out trying to sort these nursing home gamers into some sort of mean front line troops. Don't be surprised to ask one of them to cover your six only to look around and see them gasping for a breath and leaning up against a tree scratching there piles.

As a long time friend you will fit in just nicely with the above bunch of tossers. I mean what's one more wheel chair bound old fart for me and Lapio to push around. Got to say though it does become hard work when your in Squad alpha and you have to run to Squad Charlie and push them to the set way point then get back to your own squad. Only to read the chat messages that Wombat tried to sneak one out and crapped himself (darn frustrating).

Then you have GreyHaired who just nodded off while on sentry duty and tango Bernie has just slipped in your defence. Batts will be up all night then too tried to focus on sighting his bang stick and I'm wearing a slug in my ***. Rabbit does his own thing and can be found wondering aimlessly but don't worry (suffers from Alzheimer's). Clay your going to fit in just nice.

Oh, and even though we have the TI deactivated, I notice it turns completely red whenever I get near anyone on my team. I'm not sure what that means, or why everyone runs when I come over to try to "cover" them.

As for napping, everyone knows it's Mark who immediately heads off into one of the map corners, never to be heard from again.

Hey, speaking of crazy games (who was?), we were playing "FF 50" the other day, and we spawned right next to two tangos (bad guys, not dancers) who kept killing us from behind a rock.

For some reason, I appeared to be the only one noticing them, though they kept killing our whole team. I think my mates were drunk. Or maybe they were distracted by the snipers down the road who were also picking us off like Mississippi lop-eared hounds (sorry, Claymoar, if you play with us, we get to pick on you now /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif ).

And then there was Mark, the three-legged gimp dawg trying to get down the road. I didn't know whether to shoot him and put him out of his misery, or just die laughing myself. The snipers took care of the decision for both of us.

Well Kerry to answer your 1. post, I too just simply love GR. No game ever has given me so much (except maby Netmech many years back). One thing is the game itself, but when I startet to go online a few month ago with DutchyDane, it opened a hole new game. Then we had you, Snipe, Don, Michael, Lapio, Nic and a few guestplayers online and the game expanded and we suddenly had ourself a "MiniTeam". I love playing with all of you, we have fun, and we all shoot like hell, hehe

Most of you are so old or so drunk, that you cant hear me ordering you arrould, LOL, but thats ok. Thats what makes it so interesting.

"Hey Batts, go high left" ..and he goes low right.
"Dutchy, stay low, enemie near" ..and he runs like a gazelle in upright possition.
"Lapio hold your fire", and the bullets are flying all over the place.

Nah, im making fun of you guys. You all play one hell of a Recon game. We are gettin better and better everytime.

I was under heavy fire at the insertion zone, and all the other guys were off smoking a cigarette or something, so I was trying to crawl off the dock and got stuck mid-way off. Couldn't rise, couldn't move. Just whistle and fire the occasional round off.

Yes, again for the innocent readers who are thinking "who are these nuts and old farts!?" <- well, you got most of that right.. but it just happens as Batts and Snipes has pointed. But that is the beauty of the game and playing with these guys. [Gosh - I ditched studying for my term exam for TODAY to play.. lol). And ummmm yah Snipes, hehehe... we only played that one game then and I T/Ked you already. To be honest - I have no CLUE how I HIT YOU! You were laying low and I was standing and shooting the Tango.. hit you and started with my apologies RIGHT away and got shot by the tango. Thus getting me ALL mad cause I TKed a member, got killed by tango.. so I spawned and shot in that direction only to see Batts go down instead (LOL)
And it started all over again but I held my anger in. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

This game is really stupid.

I used to have a balanced life. I'd exercise, read, study for the eventual next job (which I finally have!), play with the kids, kiss the wife.

I'm thinking maybe rubber bands. Why? Because lately I seem to be firing rubber bullets. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Seriously, I'm in a rut with the OICW/GL, but I also like the SA80 with nades. Both the OICW and the SA80 have good zoom, but I think the OICW's reticle closes quicker.

In single play, I liked being the lone ranger as a sniper, but I've found that to be problematic in CQB.

The OICW has good zoom and tight reticles. I've found I can spot guys far off (the computer guys, anyway, since they stand still more than humans), even if I just see a dim outline, and in single shot, I can get them - may take firing several rounds, but I can get them.

And more than once, I've switched to full auto and gotten tangos coming around a corner.

Also, the semi-auto GL comes in pretty handy. The other day I was getting hit in the chest and dropped. There was no way I could hit the guy over the ridge, so I fired a nade at low trajectory. It missed him but forced him to start running. I followed his helmet firing round after round of nades, and did get him.

By the way, what's really helped me in spotting bad guys is something I read in the manual put by the =SEALZ= guys. Stop often and slowly move your eyes *right* to *left*. That's the opposite of our natural instinct, and helps us see someone we might otherwise miss.

On the other hand, I sometimes have a bad habit of anticipating and seeing what I expect to see, rather than what's real. And I get disoriented when there are 18 guys on a small map, moving around.

The other day I had seen a tango run past a corner twice, but I hadn't been able to get a clear shot, so I waited. Then a fellow came around the corner and turned toward me. I fired. It was a mate! My son, actually /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I had anticipated a tango, and my mind "saw" one even thought the guy in front of me was wearing an American uniform.

To Dos,

Due to my gaming style and game play I pretty much stick to M24 sniper/M98 and SR25 SD either with frag or pistol.

For a rifleman I opt for the trusty M16/ M4 SOCOM with frag and on the odd time select the OICW no GL with sensors.

For a demo soldier I choose the M4 with any of the secondary weapons depending on the map.

The reason why I don't choose OICW or SA80 is choosing the other weapons I have to keep my wits about me and game harder. It also improves your skill level without the large zooms of oicw and sa80 but that is just my opinion.

Of course one of the nursing home boys will rock up here soon. Try to dribble a load of cods whollop and stumble around the forums before he is noticed missing from bed roll call. Dang looks like one above me has gotton out and had a major dribble./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Silenced socom and sr25 coz they don't give you away. Once in a while the oicw without the g/l (batts takes care of that). Mostly frags as secondary weapon. these don't come with the oicw so there i choose extra ammo.

I find that the SoCom isn't strong at times... have to fire a few bullets to kill the tango. But I still like it.

*I got caught in the line of fire today - M4 ripped through a tango then me* I know those guns are strong and healthy - that's why I like them. And those bloody AKs that go through doors... BLAH.

Well, Snipe nailed the real reason for my preference of OICW and SA80 - my one blasted good eye! I need the zoom, and ability to nade spam from the wheel chair!

Seriously, I now like the silenced SOCOM, too - though I could do without the rubber bullets it seems to fire. It's great if my team mate uses it as well.

Of course, there are those who will rename nameless, who run around making all sorts of noise anyway - so my using a SD weapon kind of falls down in effectiveness. Especially when the bozo runs right up to me making all that noise.

It bites that we haven't been able to improve that lag yet,Snipe. But I continue working on that. There must be a solution somewhere and if there is, I'll find it.

I dont know how much the connection speed on the host has to do with the lag thing Rob, but I think that Snipe hasnt suffered so much from the lag thing as long as im hosting. As long as we look at the weatherforecast first. No rain, no snow, and day missions.

We played last night, and Snipe was killing everything with 2 legs and a gun.

lol It sure was and it's just a shame that I can't play online with that map as I do off line but please load it up again and give it another shot. I may have less traffic on the net next time and may just work better. Your right in the other post you did I have very little lag on your server and find it great gaming.

Excellent sig Mark

On the subject of lag, I was thinking about replacing the phone wire from my computer to where it enters the house with category five wire. Our electrician now uses only this type when wiring a new house for phone and computer connections. Is anyone familiar with category five and if it is of any value in making for a better connection.

Wombat: category five or "CAT 5" are network cables and also used for ADSL connections from modem to PC or modem to router and then from router to PC. I could imagine that it improves the connection f it's possible to use them as phonelines. "CAT 5" or "RJ 45" are same family.

I did a study on this once but never got to the bottom of it as my ballpoint ran out of ink, just two days before the final exams.

Buddy, these are the basics for modems:

1) quality of the modem (hardware) Prefer external one to PCI's.

2) distance to the central

3) distance from plug to modem

4) If/if not a phone is connected to same plug/number.

5) quality of the cable/cord.

The size of a phone cable plug is different from the cat 5 cables. My guess is that what wombat explains has to do with preparations for broadband making it easier to switch if/when people decide for broadband. I'm not sure if this is possible with you and I doubt it will improve the connection but let's wait and see what wombat's experiences are.

As to modems: I've got one or two external 56K's. the adapter says "Input 230 V, output 20V" so if it's something you can use, I'll gladly post it to you.

As of today this IS a New game for me,new v card,640rm and new mouse,opens up a whole new world.
Now I see things I've never seen on the pc version,no lagging in single player,just all around better game (for me anyway)/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Clay your more than welcome but I am concerned about you letting on to these other bed wetters that I have a sensitive side that I wish to remain hidden. I have built up an image of a young go getter that cares for no one and is prepared to give lip at the drop of a hat. GH is not in a happy mode these days, thats for sure. He has reinstalled his crap computer about 10 times now, all works gr8 untill he has to host games or join games, thats the part that isnt working. Im going to set up a game in a few hours, just so he can test it. So if you guys are joining my server, there is no respons, because im not home, just "test"hosting.

I think I will be online tonight. It was a tough weekend, no GR what so ever. I had bad dreams all night dreaming my GR was stolen, and all I could see was you guys playing, with no chance to join the fun.

I'll probably end up kicking that biggest ever purchase mistake: "XP" out of the "Windows" and do some "Linux" testing instead. Alternatively revert to Win98SE even though M$ is giving up support for this well-functioning product.

PC is working great as such, just this LAN only working one way in one situation and into the opposite direction, in another situation.

I love the sound when the Queen of Spades is dumped in "Hearts". Don't think I haven't been playing tactical games while you were playing our game /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
