its no biggy, but im wondering if i might be able to get gr to run with a 32 bit zbuffer. ive got a gf fx 5200 (128mb) with the 45.23 nvidia drivers, running win98se with dx9.0b installed ok. my desktop color depth is 32bit but in the gr menu graphic menu the 32bit option is grayed out and i cant click it, 16 and 24 are available though.
ive got the retail ghost recon gold package (gr, ds, and it) which comes at v 1.4
like i said, its no biggy, but seeing as my comp is a pseudo-high end rig, id just like to be able to run games at full detail while i still can cuz im going to be stuck with this one for a few years.

To twicedeadhxc,
GR doesn't support 32bit anymore.

Are you talking about 32-bit z-buffer or about 32-bit color depth? They're two different concepts.
Z-buffer is a memory area dedicated to drawing things in the right order so they appear correctly from front to back (my layman's language). So if everything is being drawn correctly in the game, increasing your z-buffer to 32-bit might just be a waste of memory. I have to run at 24-bit color depth. At 16-bit I get bizarre rolling textures.
I can't tell the difference between 16-bit color depth and 32-bit in GR. It should be most noticeable in things like fog and the sky at sunset (things with very fine color changes) but I run at 16-bit color and everything looks just great.
Don't worry about not having the 32bit z-buffer option.

Here's how you should NOT jump. Hope the link works /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Not true at all. It's Nvidia's video drivers that no longer support it (in any game). The card supports it, the game supports it, but the driver's don't (Same with ATI's current crop of drivers). I've considered pestering them about it, but I don't figure I'll get anything changed. You can probably find a registry hack to enable 32-bit z-buffering if you are so inclined.

I read somewhere that the Omega's ATI drivers still have the possibility to enable 32-bit z-buffer. Have you tried them?

You can force it through most game setup exes but with GR you won't get 32bit z buffer -but you will get 32bit color depth. This isn't any big deal becuase the pixels that have 32bit zbuffer applied to them don't appear any "better" than the pixels with zbuffered to 24bit.
