Hey all, does anyone know if TCs will be possible with FarCry? Preorder page says SandBox will be included. HOwever is that just a geometry editor? IE models and maps or are we going to be able to create new modes of play?

Please post a link to any information you have thanks!

Between the Sandbox Editor and the LUA files, you can do pretty much anything you want to the game. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
MSI K8T Neo
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
512MB Corsair PC3200 XMSC2PRO memory with activity LEDs
160GB HDD
RaidMax Scorpio case w/window and 10 80mm LED fans

The actual game editor is meant to be as much of a leap in thecnology as the game itself.

how do we get models in game though, Are they going to release the exporter for 3ds Max or/and Maya. Without them, TCs aren't really possible or at the very least, going to be very good. Heres hoping they release those tools. Also, I though I read somewhere they are going to release the sandbox editor before the retail game. Is this true.

I think the sandbox is mainly for map making ie terrain, object placing and mission setup.

But there have to be some kind of modelling.

And of course they have to release the plugins for Max and Maya.

ive just read in the new pczone benelux that they use some sort of lego blocks to build buildings in the sandbox editor.

I could be wrong, but I believe the homepage says CRYEDIT imports/exports 3ds and Maya, Sandbox and Cryedit are two different editors. If I am not mistaken, Cryedit is what you get when you purchase a commercial license. I think Jorgen is right, Sandbox is only used doing mapping. I hope I am wrong , but I don't think so.

On the Home page it says the buildings and objects can be imported from max and maya and it integrated into the editor.

This doesn't say if this is cryeditor or sandbox...Heres hoping it is sandbox.

Nope they are not, they are the same thing only different names.

Depends on where you read about it.

Farcry will be shipping with the full editor, as used by the Crytek level editors themselves.

Hi all thanks for replying. However all I've read here is the same old same that everyone has been "saying"

If Sandbox is CryEdit under a differnet name please link to proof of this. As I read the technology page for the Cry Engine I read about CryEdit which is available to licensees of the engine. As seen HERE -&gt; http://www.farcry-thegame.com/uk/technology.php
OR here http://www.farcry.ubi.com/technology.php

now the pre-oder page http://store.ubi.com/item.jsp?item=FARCRYPREORDER

Here it says "Build your own maps, reconstruct game levels, and switch from editing to playing on the fly with the unbelievably intuitive Sandbox Editor. "

This doesn't say anything that leads me to believe a Total Conversion is possible. It says I can build new maps and load for testing quickly.

As for Sandbox being the editor they used to build the game. I'm sure it was the editor they used to make the maps. Once the game mission types are built it's just a matter of bilding the maps with the proper items and bingo you've got a new mission. Sandbox would have been used to make the maps. Not the "game play".

Now the .lua files are all open in the demo but this doesn't mean they will be in the release. (they can simply be encrypted for the retail version). While right now they seem to give much acess to the game in fact even this is limited. We can insert new vehicles and new guns.. change how things move and fire and how strong they are. HOWEVER we can not create new gametypes. We can't create new actions to be binded to keys. (we can only swap current action commands with new results)

I'm guessing no one knows the info I'm looking for yet and that's why there's been no revealing links. That's ok - cause I don't know the info myself. I was just hoping I had missed it.

For people who don't know what I'm asking I'll explain a senario.

Lets say someone wanted to use the Cry Engine (via the game FarCry) to make say a Bicycle Race game. If FarCry had a real SDK (service developement kit) released it could easily be done. But is this possible with the tools that are coming.

(no I'm not making a bicycle mod. I'm making a somewhat complex mod which will introduce some new modes of play and bring new life - I hope - to some others we haven't seen in a while.)

Anyone know the answers? Devs?

There will be a SDK and all the Tools. And you can allready bind new actions to new keys and much more. At the moment i make a ingame map editor for the demo, all with lua. The Engine itself is written in C++, but Farcry, the game itself is written in LUA, so you can do Total Conversions easily.

Oh and:

SDK = Software Development Kit

RaTzo

Can be called Software or Service Devlopment Kit

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=%22service+development+kit%22&spell=1

heheh sorry I just love to argue http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Where did you get the info that a SDK will be released? Please link.

Also can you bind more actions than the number already in the game? If so can you explain how?

That was said in a few interviews, i dont have a link for you, sorry. I also have contacts to crytek, and they said to me there will be a SDK, but after the release. In the full, there will be a mod menu (where you can choose which mod you want to play) too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This means each mod has his own folder with all the models, lua scripts and so on, very cool http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

ok so there's something in the post I want to put here that the forum won't allow I guess.. not sure what it is.

Anyway. Can you explain how to add new actions to the game? Say if I wanted to keep all the current actions as they are, and wanted to add another. We're convinced it's not possible yet, and it's very important to us. Thanks.

There are more than 1 way, the easiest way is to make a small functino in the clientstuff.lua:

Search for "function ClientStuff:OnUpdate()" and add this:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">local pressedkey = Input:GetXKeyPressedName();

if(pressedkey=="f1") then

...code...

end</pre>

And there is the other way with the "Input:BindCommandToKey("#ACTION)","KEY",1);" command.

Just replace the ACTION with the name of your self made function (function test() or whatever) and KEY with a name of a key of your keyboard http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I use both for my ingame map editor http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They have the makings of a great game, but how does one of them stating in a interview that a SDK may be released around the same time as the game is mean they "do a very good job".?

Hehehe sorry to flame you man, but that was very "fanboi"-ish. I love the game too, but come on.

hmm, confused here, how does that bind a new action...that only seems to bind a new key..What I was referring to was binding an action, one that can be changed from the OPTIONS screen. It appears the example you gave would only bind a key in CODE, not from the options screen.

I thought I had made this clearer the other day, it appears I was wrong. The way you are describing works, except that your binds are 'hard' coded, it doesn't seem to allow the user to change them by going into the options screen, under control options. IF you bind a key to a key they are already using, it appears that they would have to manually to and change them in code. This is usually beyond the capabilities of alot of people. What I was asking the other day was how to bind actions to keys as defined in the options screen. If this can't be done, it makes it very difficult to make a user friendly interface for your mod.

You can make a new binding menu if you want too, thats no problem. Or you can modify the old one so you can bind new actions to keys..

If it displays the @ it means there is no entry in the stringtable file. You have to modify the old script heavily to get it to work, so its easier to make a new one.

Well I've been doing some Python stuff lately - picked it up because Soldner uses it. I'm not so interested in Soldner anymore though.

lua isn't all that different than python so it shouldn't be too much of a streach to get going. To get good - which I am far from in python or any other language for that matter may take a while. However it looks pretty straight forward.

The big question though. Is Sandbox and Cryedit the exact same editor , or is Sandbox only for editing Terrain e.g making maps. Cryedit seems to be a do it all editor with the ability to do alot of other stuff. If they are the same editor, why have different names. My feeling is that Sandbox is to Cryedit as Gmax is to 3d Studio Max.

Awesome job, not 100% what I wanted to see. I was actually looking for a way to customize the ingame ones, without a new menu, etc. This is great , don't get me wrong. It does the trick. I still wonder if there is a way to add new actions to the already existing menu or to modify what functions are carried out when you press the built in keys. It appears the answer is no.
