That means you either have a GF4MX or some other sort of unsupported video card, and at this time it will NOT run on those cards...sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

If that's not the case, then hell, I don't know what's wrong. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Basically it helps to make 'pretty pictures' and if you graphics card doesn't support that then this game wont run on your computer, but if somehow it does work then the game will look crappy (maybe thats too strong of a word to use).
Hope that helps a bit.

Seems like a lot of people are asking questions\having problems with this. Might be a good idea to sticky it??....

you have two options

1)Go out and Buy yourself a new card

2)Sit tight untill UBI releases a patch to support more cards. They even said themselves "More Cards may be supported after release"

I have an MX440 and the game will not run due to a pixel shading problem. Have downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers and still have a problem. How daft can these people be ??? Is there a fix for this or do I just go get a refund and spend my money on something that works. Of course I could just upgrade my PC everytime UBI release a new game.....fools !

u should all see this as a wake up sign. You have outdated cards, i dont care if u just got it. Its outdated! Anyone with a brain could tell u that. You would be smart to go get another card, cuase there is no way u will run doom 3 or hl2 or any other new game that is to come out. If u do get any of those to run, its going to have to be in very low settings all around and u will still get like 20 fps max. Just saved up 200 dollars and get urself a mid-ranged card that will last u for a good 2 years before u actually have to upgrade again.
People seem to have forgotten that in the computer industry technology is always growing and changing, and u must keep up with it.
And do research on ur card next time before u buy it, so u dont waste ur money agian.

LOL! People, a Pixel Shader is part of the HARDWARE on the graphics card. You cannot download one off the internet! LOL!

You'll have to ditch the GF4MX and get a newer (read: supported!) card to play. I know it sucks and it might be supported in the future but you wouldn't want to play it on an MX anyways, it would run like straight a55 (not to mention looking crappy because of no shaders).

Eh. A lot of people don't care what a pixel shader is, nor should they have to. I just went through this with my parents. Seems they saw a TV commercial, dad got interested, and Mom picked up the game for him as a surprise.

What they didn't know is to check is the game requirements. Heck they have a pentium 3, 400mhz with a Voodoo3 card in it. It's that old. There needs to be a better way for 'normal' consumers to check their system to see if it works with this game or any high powered game. These people look at the requirements and immedietely their eyes glaze over. They have no clue what all those damn numbers mean. And they have no idea where to start to figure it out, assuming they even want too.

Suffice it to say I have seen this over and over and over again. I feel sorry for non computer savvy consumers that are caught in the upgrade loop. Yes, part of it is their fault. But part of it should be made easier as well.

Colevant
03-27-2004, 07:30 AM
actually no. If they went and spent the money, its their fault. Anyone smart knows to do research on something before they waste their money on it.
ya ever see that 70s show, where red forman is working for bob, and ppl keep coming up to him asking for a refrig. He asks, "well, what are u looking for in a fridge?". and what did his customers reply with? "I dunno, but i like the green color."
I think this is a excelent portrayal of how stupid consumers are. And this is how most of ya ended up with a MX lol.

I am going to respectfully disagree with you. Game requirements and figuring out what hardware your computer has is too hard for the average non tech savvy computer user. It should be easier. It is uncaring to expect everybody to have the same level of innate computer knowledge that some do.

Now if the consumer displays a complete disregard for any research at all before purchase, then yes, whatever ramifications that purchase has is their own fault. With my parents I had to tell them, "It's your own fault. You should of researched this". Software returns in the good ol' US of A are next to impossible. So they are stuck with a near 50 dollar purchase they can't use.

CriztyLHazE
03-27-2004, 11:13 AM
I fully understand your view on this, as I'm sure my grandparents wouldn't be able to figure it out either. But, if you spent alot of money on a computer (which you probably did) wouldn't you want to make sure you knew what was in it? It's just the fact that people need to pay more attention when they purchase a computer so that they don't run into incompatibilities later down the line.

Pixel shaders are those things that give the game the kool graphical effects. new games have em. Only new cards support them. The mx series do not have them

and honestly its all about reading. I really give crap what a pixel shader does. All i know it makes the game look pretty. All you have to do is read whats on your computer and compare it to the system req on the box. generally if the number is smaller in your computer than the sestem req, its not supported!!! Thats it!!!! Now about the vid cards that for some reason people get confused about.

There are two main manufacturers for video cards(there the things that connect to your mointor and display the picture)

Nvidia and ATI are the two giant heads of the industry.

Here are the lists of the only video cards you should ever buy!! Only this list!!!

Nividia: GeforceFX series and the geforce4ti series... not mx series!!!!!!!

ATI: the 9000, 9200, 9500, 9700, 9800 series!!

All those cards i have listed have pixel shaders!! Its that simple. plus the box should say 128mb or a higher, plus agp!!

Other words for video card:graphics accelorater
graphics card, plus multimedia accelorator.

So if you buy a computer from a dell or compaq or something, make sure it has one of those cards listed above! Also dont get anything that says integrated!!! Thats a big no no!

its that simple

You shouldn't be so mean. Not everyone spends time reading benchmark plots or tech data on thier video cards. As for me, I don't see the point of using pixel shaders exclusively. As far as I know, I've seen plenty of visually pleasing games that don't specifically require them.

Single player and multiplayer are two ENTIRELY different games.

If you can't read a system requirements box and/or you don't know what graphics card you have: you have no place buying PC games. Go get yourself a console instead of spamming the boards with the same stupid questions. Instead of asking what a Pixel Shader is bla-bla-bla (I've heard this over 20 fu**ing times in ONE day)...LOOK IT UP. Get off your a55, stop spamming the boards; if the game says your card is unsupported - it is UNSUPPORTED. Which means, if you CAN find a way to make it work, whether by software emulating a hardware function or what (which makes me laugh), it will run like crap, look like crap, and you will wonder why you spent all that time whining and complaining about trying to get it working in the first place.

Let this topic die. Read the supported video card list. And please people, don't lie to each other - it is likely that GF4MX and older ATI cards will NOT be supported as they would have to change the entire game. The game revolves around lighting and Pixel Shaders play a massive role in this. If you wan't to play, get a new card. END OF STORY.
