That pic of the Habu/Blackbird is really unflattering. Ditto for the Aardvark

You reckon that picture of the Blackbird I posted is ordinary do you?..Well I consider it so good in fact that its my background at the moment.
(If you know of a better picture of the SR-71 then please post it as I'd love to have an even better shot/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

p.s

The F-111 photo isn't the best shot (there are some impressive ones at www.f-111.net), (http://www.f-111.net),) but it served its purpose as an example of the plane I'd like to see in Lomac - Yes, I admit that the picture of the F-111 is no oil painting.
(Again, if you have better shot of the F-111, I'm all ears/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Nagh Mate...they don't count.

The F-111 pics were US ones, not Aussie ones & the SR-71 pics were of the -not so nice- 2 seaters./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

P.S

I still didn't understand what you were trying to say here;

"You could do nothing with the SR-71 i cant attack i can only fly (duh) the only thing its good for is taking pics of the ground"

i mean that the SR-71 is a spy plane you can only attack with it if you crash into something /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I've got nothing against air-to-air & air-to-ground missions. I'm just saying there's nothing wrong with having a bit of varity or something a bit different that's not normally done.

In short, I don't think having a flyable SR-71 Blackbird would be a bad thing.

Yes, it would get boring in FS2002 eventually, but not in Lomac for obvious reasons.

you see, its nice to have options;

If you like loading up on rockets/bombs/missiles, good, no problem, but I'm also saying that the SR-71 gives you a very different kind of mission - more of a tension filled 'catch me if you can' mission.

Yeah, well, perhaps.. .. Flying in enemy territory with a few times faster than sound just to take some pictures doesn't sound very attractive to me.. Besides, can't the US use sattelites?

And Genasar, what I've been wondering when I read this thread.. What do you mean with your sig?

"Flying may kill you.. a missile will"

..?? :S

Don't think the Blackbird CAN do 3.5 Mach at 250 feet. Because . . . . arrgh, it's too late, I can't be bothered, just BECAUSE, alright?

And I would have loved to be at the meeting where they came up with the Spectre.
"What can we do to sell more C-130's?"
"I know - let's put a Howitzer in it and shoot at people on the ground!"

. . . . ??

Who came up with that idea?

lol, I could imagine a SR-71 mission. Flying up in lower space, black outside the windows, head down in the instruments, "oh, got to set up for the next turn 20 miles ahead" worrying about controlling the bank and the fact it will take 200miles to turn the thing. Yeah-haw /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

For anyone who thinks that flying an SR-71 was boring, I'd encorage them to pick up these 2 books;

'The Untouchables' &
'Sled Driver'

p.s

And yes, I know how hard they are to get and how much they cost as I have a copy of each and believe that the money was well spent.

You just cannot get better photographs or a better idea of what flying the Blackbird was really like.

Outstanding books.

40 bucks for The Untouchables, Sled Driver out of stock. This is just the first site I noticed, so I assume there are cheaper ways to get this book...

I guess I shouldn't complain about the 40 bucks. I guess it's even cheap.
Just visited the site: http://secure.succeed.net/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif ROD&Store_Code=SR71&Product_Code=001

....price..: $427.00

'Sled Driver' is expensive, but its worth it.

However,if there's no way you're going to pay that kind of money for ANY book,then 'The untouchables' is the book you're after...an awesome book in its own right.

Its about real missions in 1986 where F-111s struck targets in Libya while SR-71s provided recon.

p.s

There are some really, really great moments in both books. I always go back and have a read from time to time.

e.g Like when an SR71 crew 'drag-raced' their Dutch friends who were in F16s,plenty of examples where SR71s were up against SAMS and MIGS,and smart arse F18 pilots who smuggly show off to Air Traffic controllers with their impressive speed at sea level while the SR71 flys overhead at 3.5 times their speed with the Air traffic controllers not beleving what their scopes are showing. etc, etc.

And that's before you get to the photos!!!
