What Does the Gamma Setting Do?

The game seems very dark to me so I wind up using the night vision about 90% of the time and I feel like I'm missing out on some cool graphics. I tried jacking up the brightness setting on the game but it washes out a lot of the color. What about the gamma setting?

i think gamma also brightens a bit, try it and see
