View Full Version : What would you like to see in GR2 ?

Heres my 2 cents:


-The ability to see your weapon( the option to disable weapon view as well )

-Realistic balistics and damage modeling, bullets that punches through doors, vehicles and walls.

-Less zoom for Assault Rifles and more zoom for sniper weapows. In GR1 an assalt weapon can have as much zoom as a sniper one, not to mention the bullet energy, how come a .223 carbine sometimes does more damage than a full-sized 7.62mm rifle or even more than a .50 BMG caliber!!!

-In adttion to the stock aim, iron sights or reflex by pressing mouse button B or another one.

-The ability to swim, dive and to climb over obstacles.

-Better kit selections, standard pistols for all soldiers, more slots for addtional gear, such as smoke grenades, extended mags and other stuff. Intelligent menus like the ones found in Rainbow Six and Raven Shield.

- Better engine( not UR engine like in Raven Shild ) but an engine similar to GR1 with better graphics and more interactive.

-Enemies that doesn't shoot better than a SAS sniper when firing a full-auto AK rifle from above 300 yards.

-Ability to find better cover, and 3-d tree and bushes models.

That´s not the point, the S80 in real life has a tiny scope wich magnifies 4X Maximum but in the game it has way more zoom than that, most assault rifle scopes are 1.5X mini-scopes. The OICW is nothing but a modified HK G36 carbine( wich is less powerful and it has less range than a M-16 due to its barrel size ) the only difference is that you can send a 20mm grenade with selective fuse time at up to 1000 meters. But in GR the OICW performs like an automatic sniper rifle, that's why this is the only gun you'll see in multiplayers matches.

I really wouldn't like to see that happening in GR2...the damage model in Soldier of Fortune 2 is pure crap, although the graphics are stunning. As for the team chat, i really don't care, theres plenty of free com softwares out there, just grab Roger Wilco or Team Speak and ull be alright.

The SA80 does have a 4x scope in real life. In the game, a check of Igor will show that it has a scope with a magnification of... wait for it... 3x. Not more than is realistic, like everyone has said, but less. I don't think the sights on the guns are really much of a problem - the sniper guns have much greater zooms - up 10x scopes, and consider how $hit the sights are on the support weapons and the MP5... Even the OICW you mention has a zoom of... I can't remember if it 4x or 5x. But even so, that's much less than the sniper rifles, so it's certainly no "automatic sniper rifle".

No, the scopes on the guns in the game are fine. What I want to see are realistic distances involved with the missions. In GR, a shot of 100m is a fair range - but the guns can fire over ten times that far in reality! Use your binoculars on a map sometime to see how far away a target is. Look at him without the binoculars. How small does he look? Is THAT realistic?? No. A guy 200m away is so small that the reticle pips are bigger than he is! 200m away!! It's not exactly a huge distance, is it?

For GR2 I would want that, and better AI - both enemy and friendly. (Incidentally, you can shoot people through doors - I've done it many times...)

sniper rifles may have a 10x zoom but in practical terms fog has an effect on how effective it actually is,so on nearly all maps ur better off taking a SA80 or 0ICW.

Id like to see a system similar to valves anti cheat as seen in half life,if u get caught using hacks then ur game gets banned.

Maybe have a text based admin system available rather than the silly GUI in use at the moment which is way too limited.

The abillity to kick/ban players during a game, (kinda goes back to my first point)

In summary the SPin gr was fine,stuff like picking up a demo guys rocket wouldve been good, but it was the technical aspects of the MP that let it down......

Good suggestions thus far. I will say that I find CO-OP games to be by far the most satisfying game mode. I hope that GR2 will continue to capitalize on it. Here is what I hope to see in the next one, which may repeat what others have said in this thread:

- give AI a bit more fallibility with their aiming, especially with snap-shooting...if the AI takes aim for a length of time, then I can believe a more accurate shot...also it should be governed by the zoom capability of the weapon

- make pistols more effective! I have tried to use pistols with sniper kits and they just plain suck in CQB. They are not the least bit lethal even in close range. I would like to have a selection of weapons that are quick sighting at close range (meaning I can swing the weapon around quickly and hope to hit something) and be relatively lethal even with one shot. I can understand pistols being less lethal and inaccurate at longer ranges, like beyond 10-15 meters. Pistols are made for close-in work. Give me that option!

- Except for the SOCOM and the SR25, the silenced weapons really kind of get the shaft in terms of lethality. It would be good to have the lethality of the sub-sonic loads be on the order of 75% percent of a normal non-silent load, and also simulate penetration such that it is on the order of 40% or so against body armor.

- Simulate injury effects on the AI. The players have to do it. It would be at least a bit more forgiving to give an AI a limp when I peg them with a 9mm round, then simply shrug it off. Even with body armor, the less lethal rounds can still provide shock value...us players should be rewarded for making the shot, even as it is non-lethal.

- Provide destructible map elements, if possible. Not a real biggie, though, since it can be a technical hassle.

- Provide a map editor like IGOR once again. I have really enjoyed working with it thus far for making new maps to put my COOP team through. It's a pretty good editor. The only thing that is missing is the ability to 'paint' new maps. It would be nice if a new map could be made from scratch without needing 3D Studio Max, which is nearly impossible for the unwashed masses to get ahold of ($$$). Mods and new maps give the game longevity.

- Keep the environmental effects of Ghost Recon. The sights and the sounds. The game engine was good with providing good background sounds and also excelled at animated terrain, like swaying trees and bushes. It's not only immersive, but acts as a natural distraction when looking for bad guys. It's good tactical stuff.

- Can we have smoke grenades and flash bangs?

- Make use of ladders like Raven Shield

- Have armored vehicles be able to use their main gun in a non-scripted mode. Also, allow troops to ride in armored vehicles and not just trucks.

- The AI idle modes were good in GR. Expand on it. Give all kinds of options for an AI to be doing when they are just bored on their patrol. It's what makes GR seem realistic in engagements because your enemy is not on the alert 24/7.

- Improve AI reactions to gun fire, either the sound from a distance, or when a bullet wizzes by them. The reactions to those two should be different, but nonetheless present. It's already pretty good in GR, but sometimes seems a little inconsistent.

- Make the gun sounds a little beefier perhaps. It would be good if there were a rolling echo from the gunfire as well.

Ok, those rifles MAY have a realistic zoom in the game, but that still doesn't change the fact that those rifles seems to be more powerful than most sniper rifles, take the M24 and PSG-1 for example: both rifles fires the NATO 7.62mmX51mm round, wich is way more powerful than the .223, especially when fired from a sniper rifle with bolt action, but in GR these guns plain suck. Sometimes you have to put 3 rounds on an enemy to take it down, on the other hand the OICW and the SA80 is almost 100% lethal, it doesn't matter how far you are from the target, that's where i have a problem with it.

I guess i don't need to adress the issues on the M82 barret rifle, everybody knows this gun doesn't perform not even 20% real life like. It's a joke!!!

Now about the bullets perforating materials is another issue that needs major improving. Yes round sometimes pass through doors, but not always( and not with most rifles ). What about windshields!?? Any rifle caliber can perforate a car or an unarmored truck like hot knife on butter, but in the game they seem to be made out of tungstein. Not to mention walls, the 7.62mm round in real life can easily punch through an average brick wall( house walls ), but in GR not even a .50 BMG will do that though.

I have a list and some things have been mentioned:


- More weapons (shotguns, throwing knives, miniguns)

- Better graphics

- About 20 missions rather than 8 or 15

- Pick-up weapons lying around

- Swap weapons with dead guys

- Different environments (mountain-tops or ancient ruins)

- Better Sound

- More multiplayer gametypes (conquest or something)

I think Ubi Soft should REALLY consider these for GR2

Correct voices for offline missions. You've heard Munz talk like a burly hoss one minute, like a chick the next.

AI that don't routinely walk or crawl right in front of your gunsights.

Ability to raid dead bodies for gear. Running out of ammo while surrounded by dead bodies is silly.

Suppressing fire should cause the enemy to keep their heads down. In GR, it usually causes the opposite effect.

Friendly AI should run from grenades.

...and another thing:

Medals are now only awarded for racking up a body count. You could have a soldier single-handedly destroy four armored vehicles and not get a medal. In real life, this guy would have the theatre commander pin at least a silver star on him.

Well hello all I see you are all putting in good words for the new game and I say yes to most I dont think you need to change the guns maybe out less ammo and maybe be able to pick ammo from dead bodies would be good but that fact of zoom dont change them they are good maybe you could add like the claymores have them able to blow a hole in cement walls would be nice or when playing the missions being able to pick up and hide dead bodies so that the rest cant see them just like in 007 would be very cool but add some med packs and maybe more guns yes more guns there is a map on GR its the one with the prison there are towers that have doors that cant be opened if you make something like that again peeps will talk the only way around that I see is too have the door open maybe be able to move around inside but thats it not much needed there I would like too see more swamp maps or jungle maps even maybe some quick sand on desert maps you should also do the thing with the roll on it that would be great when a person is lieing down and gets shot at being able to roll out of the way would be a great thing to be able to do well thats it for now oh wait if you add the same thing as GR that you can ban someone make sure it dont go by the first 2 parts of the ip make it do just that IP would be great thnks later

We need to jump.... really high... and what about the railgun and the plasmablaster...... and always run.

Get rid of wounds when you get hit... just show how bad you are hit in %. We need to run faster and jump higher. A lot of armor plates should be placed around the maps. with healthpacks nearby and finally the nurses.... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

See what everybody thinks of these idea's.
1/Being supplied with and being able to use a knife.
2/The ability of the gamer to award medals and decorations to his players.
3/Having medals and decorations pertinent to the nationality of the soldier (e.g. Brit, German. Russian etc)
4/ Being able to swap gear/weapons is a good one, no one in their right mind would leave behind a MG or ammo!!.
5/ Have handgrenades or riflegrenades knock off more than 1 person if in the immediate vicinity, or at least wound them.

1.)Above all else a good performing netcode...with little or no apparent latency in regards to trigger delay or bullet impact, this is a must in a realistic one shot one kill game, minimal warping etc....
2.)A good performing game engine ie: able to maintain a steady framrate on a moderate to high end spec pc (1.6ghz-3.2ghz/128-256mb video board/512-768mb pc3200 ddr ram)
3.)Minimal to no exsisting issues and bug when game goes gold/retail.
4.)Interaction and support provided by devs tm and support tm.

BESIDES...redstorm is bizy makeing crap for the xbox, other consoles and finishing rainbow six's athena sword..another award winning piece of crap.(raven shield being the first piece of crap) and then they will be bizy makeing patches for their pieces of crap to make them smell better. but crap will allways smell like crap....YOU HEAR THAT REDSTORM!!!!....LOL, im sure they read this forum eveynite before they go to bed...ya right. trust me....operation flashpoint 2 will come out before gr 2. you can count on it.

Look dumb a$$, I can write correctly and spell correctly if I want to but I don't feel they need to sit in front of my computer looking in the dictionary and rereading everything I write over and over to make sure it makes sense. i'd like to see A FRICKIN JUMP KEY. team talk w/ mic and ability to mute, biiiiiiggggggggeeeeer maps, move vehicle interaction, ability to drive vehicles like in bf1942, 3 level maps, more places you can hide (nooks crannies, more office rooms in buildings) , more realisticness, less aim ability for the terrorists, better models, in game multiplayer browser, music in game , better hud, ability to turn off fire indicator or remove the indicator from hud all together.

A game that works! Redstorm sucks! Blaming everyone's hardware, but not pointing the finger at themselves! Splinter Cell works flawlessly on my machine. FS 2002 works flawlessly. Ghost Recon-NOPE!

Last night I actually had some game play on the damn thing. This morning, crashes. That is a SOFTWARE issue and how it is communicating with the hardware not the other way around! For if it was the other way around, I wouldn't have been able to play period!

the first suggestion might be considerable as long as they kept it to being able to take ammo that is compatible with what you are carrying...

What I'd like to see in GR2 is everything that made GR1 so great with the annoying things greatly improved. like the A.I. , the inability to run over a obsticles that sticks up three inches from the ground (notice I didn't mention jumping)

as for things to add I would only put 2 suggestions forward.

1. the mission objectives could be more dynamic so the story could change slightly depending on the success/execution of the previous objectives. (like Frostbite & then some)
2. more stuf should be destructable, like light bulbs, petrol barrels, bridges, some wall's & fences etc.

there have been some other great suggesions that if done properly would add to the game & not spoil it but it's a fine line & I don't want to see a game as precious to me as GR spoilt by unrealistic additions.

PlasmaBlasters...Health Packs....wound percentages....come on. This is Ghost Recon...not Phazer Blasters 3000...if you want games like that head down to your local arcade and dump in some quarters. Leave the realistic gaming to the die hard loyalists. I think GR2 does have room for improvements...(i.e., more silent weapons...since their are GHOSTS...extra kits, knives, grenades...ability to choose mission essential uniforms.)

I would also like to see missions that were actual recon missions...you know, send a few guys in, gather some intel and get out...no shots, no deaths....then the subsequent missions would build on what you found.

i personally havent gotten close enough to a russian to be able to use a knife but i suppose i am just not sneaky enough...

also, i am not to sure about recoon missions the way you described but maybe missions similar to POW camp but where they actually inserted more tangos if an alarm got set off...

GR1 was a really good game. What makes it a good game is the following:

- Good AI in single player missions;
- Good difficulty level;
- A lot of outdoor maps, unlike Rainbow Six;
- Realistic compare to games like Counterstrike and Battelfield 1942

I think that GR2 should be an improvement of what makes GR1 a good game. So to add more reality in the game you should those little features:

- Ability to see the gun when you're running, and the visor when you stop or walking slowly,
- Ability to take the weapons of the dead guys, not only the ones of your team but also the other team;
- Ability to have more weapons on you, not limited to only two weapons. But it should stay realistic. Ex.: You can carry small weapons like knife and sensors even if you have a gun with a grenade launcher;
- More weapons and combination of weapons;
- Improve sounds of weapons;
- The AI should depend on the difficulty level, not only more guys on the map if level is higher. The guy should be more intelligent at the elite level than the recruit one;
- More maps and some maps with real places in the world.
- If you add the ability to control vehicules, it must be realistic;
- Team chat integrated to the game with some features like, the dead guys should not be able to talk during the rest of the game.

Also the server features should be improve:

- Linux version of the server without a graphic interface;
- Ability to connect to a web interface to manage the server and consult the status;
- More documentation about the bandwith usage depending on the number of players on the server;
- Add a good stats tools;

I probably forgot to mention something, but if all these points are added or improved in GR2, it will be a big improvement for the game.

Live people can't see the chat of the dead 'observers'. If you're referring to Teamspeak et al some tournaments forbid it or even lock live people out.

You're right on, Ming.
The game is great as it is, except for some annoyances. One thing that could be better is the way you equip the soldiers, especially after unlocking the missions where you get to chose between 40 different kits. It would be better if you could chose from lists of primary and secondary weapons, maybe build in a weight limit.
