Ok so my game keeps freezing random times, causing me to do a hard reset of my PC as there is no other way out. Any ideas? I do have 2 gtx 780ti's SLI, should I try disabling 1 of my GPU's? Or is the game SLI ready? Its really pissing me off? Any ideas, ive tried running as administrator and its still crashing. I've rang Ubisoft and they are getting back to me?

Any ideas people?

Hi there, KIA.TurbineT,

Can you confirm if you are running any other programs while playing? For example are you using Skype to talk to friends whilst playing?

If so can you try playing for a period without any other applications running to see if there is a conflict?

I managed to play like 5 minutes by skipping the cinematics and then freeze when i was goat hunting, this is really really raging to pay for a game i can't play !

Please help us fix that, I verified the files, my drivers are up to date and my rig is supposed to handle this game without any problems !

Is there a known issue with SLI for example?

Have you tried without SLI on just to see what happens?

I've tried playing it in window borderless mode as someone said it had fixed their issue, it has not fixed my issue, still getting the hard freeze and have to restart my PC. It's really starting to grind and piss me off considering a pre ordered this game, it should work straight off. I have not yet tried playing it by disabling SLI, has anyone tried doing this yet?

Im only playing with Teamspeak running, could this be an issue? Is the game SLI compatible? As ill try disable SLI, if not ill close TS?

i have same same problem.
running on alienware 18, all drivers updated, no programs running in the backgrund.
not overheating issue.

after loading a game, i can take maybe a step or two and then the game freezes.
just tried this ten times... load the game, move or turn a little and the game freezes.

if i quickly bring up the map and fast travel back to home cave, the game runs fine, until the next time et starts freezing.
almost like there are some areas that has issues

note: tried disabling crossfire and same problem.
tried running on lowest graphic settings and same problem.

Similar problem here (win10),

after respawning bringing up the map will freeze the whole computer. Occurred right from the beginning whenever I opened the map after having been killed. At first it managed to recover, now the map being significantly larger I have to shut down and reboot. Opening the map in other situations also reduces the frame rate to a slow crawl before returning to normal.

Otherwise game runs fine so far.

Seems like the majority of people using the R9 Series are facing this problem. Also i noticed that the crashes occur more often when im in snowy areas / in the northern part of the map

Same problem here and as someone said this problem occurs mostly players with r9 graphics series, i have the r9 380x and it crashes hard in snowy areas, i can walk only a few steps and game freezes and gpu stops giving signal to the monitor, apparently the only way is shutting down the whole pc hardly. Same problem here. I first experienced the problem during the mammoth quests (and still can't complete the 3rd one). FC now crashes at random moments running through the wilderness. I can play for maybe 10 minute before it crashes. I did notice that the video drivers are crashing - the Radeon app in the clock tray unexpectedly quits when I try to open it after using task manager to kill the FX executable.

Specs:
Windows 8.1 Pro x64
AMD FX-8370 4GHz
12GB RAM
AMD R9 380, 4GB
Radeon Software Version 16.2.1

Edit: I tried enabling compatibility mode for Win 8 as suggested in another thread but the problem persists.

I'm not sure if this is related or not.

My game seems to freeze up every time dawn starts. The first two crashes I had were when I tried to sleep until dawn. Then I did an escort Wenja quest, starting during the night. About the time I'd be almost done, the game would freeze. At these times it also happened to be becoming morning time. Then, one time I completed it. Shortly after, when it started to get light out, my game froze up again. I launched the game again, and it crashed almost immediately (it's now right before dawn in the save file).

EDIT: I have an AMD Radeon HD 7800 series.

I am having the same crashing issue (r9 380 MSI twin frozr 4gig) can happen almost anytime but mainly when there is fire (including fire fly’s lol) on the screen. I seem to remember far cry 3 and 4 having numerous miserable issues on release. Is it too much to ask for a product that is playable at release? If just a small percentage of people are having issues that would be one thing (I think this has gone past the small percentage). This must be why gaming consoles are getting more and more popular. Looking forward to the patch that allows me to play a game I preordered (you would think that I would learn).

With that said I do feel sorry for the team that has to sort, find and fix the errors and I hope you guys and gals have lots of coffee on hand.

Man ... I thought I was the only one. It is crashing more frequently at snowy regions and I have a R9 380 as well. I thought I was cursed or something until I saw this thread, makes me feel a little better.

Also, I tried everything and by this I mean EVERYTHING :

- Tried at LEAST 6 different drivers, rolling back and on so many times
- Underclocked / overclocked the GPU using Afterburner a lot of times
- Took off the card and plugged it back (yes, I seriously did this)
- Installed the latest chipset drivers for my i5
- Disabled steam overlay
- Tried to run as administrator
- Turned off VSync, forced it through RadeonPro along with Triple Buffering
- Disabled Aero theme
- Used Microsoft's FixIt to change TdrDelay (registry editor) from 2 to 8 then changed it manually to 10
- Checked device manager to see if there are any missing drivers, there are none
- A few more things I can't remember atm

NOTHING f****** works, I am starting to regret the day I bought this card but I can't even be sure if it's that or Ubisoft's epic fail engine, fml.

A friendly warning from me to anyone who has a R9 card : do NOT buy this game until this **** is fixed (I hope it will be) and save yourself the trouble. Go play FC4 instead, that one doesn't crash every 5 minutes. I gave up on AC with Unity and it seems like I am going to give up on FC (sadly I really love the series) with Primal. GJ.

p.s. no other game other than Fallout 4 (well, except the obvious) does this (but that's normal because everyone knows how ****ty Bethesda is at optimization).

I dont think its the card. I think its Ubisofts fault. When i was playing the Open Beta of division the other day, the game also kept crashing. I dont have any problems with other games, only with Ubisoft titles.

I've got the same issue. The game has been running fine for hours but now it'll either freeze whilst loading a save-game, or about 5 or so minutes into the game. It not only crashes the game, but my PC as well with either a freeze requiring hard-resetting, or if I'm lucky, I can open Task Manager and kill Far Crys process (Not Responding).

I'm running an nVidia GTX680 (on a 1600x900 monitor so performance is fine!). The GPU driver also fails with a "has recovered" error message.

All other games I have installed play fine. I've also monitored temps and performed MEMTEST overnight but everything comes up OK.

R9 285 XFX DD 2GB user here with random freezes for half a second with a blackscreen right after forcing me to do a hard reset on the computer. Already submited my ticket yesterday, they replied and asked me for my msinfo, i provided it and they asked me to fully uninstall my video drivers and install them again. I did that, managed to play for a few minutes in the snow (managed to capture a bonfire) but it crashed with a blackscreen again, waiting for their reply now. This is really frustrating, i was enjoying the game very much, do you guys think they will even bother to patch this for the pc community? Since from what i saw they focus more on the consoles community.

Ok guys, so i think this is a problem of conflict between this game, AMD and windows 10. I've tried to run in compability mode with windows 7 and so far it didn't crashed, been wondering around on top of my sabretooth in snowy lands for like 10 mins and it didnt crashed nor give any error(usually it would crash in less than 1 minute). I don't have time atm to test it more since i have to go to work, but try it out, hopefully this workaround will work for all of us :) I wish you best of luck and give your feedback!!

So installed the game yesterday and started playing, no problems really, at one point it quit for no reason and had to use ctrl-alt-del to quit it and restar. Then went smoothly, played for 2 hours today. Took a couple of hours rest and tried play now and it freezed so had to turn computer off then on. Now it cant ecen start the crap, the fartest it goes is to the startup text warning for ephilepsi and then it freezes.
R9 graphic card here aswell.
No issues with any other of my games, running windows 7 and sure as hell havent changed anything since this morning.

Hi there guys,

The issue has been reported so the team can look into it.

In the meantime can you try the steps listed here?: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1398911-Game-freeze-after-click-play?p=11427101&viewfull=1#post11427101

They've resolved issues with freezing/crashing in other instances so let me know if it helps for this!

I've tried all of those fixes above and the problem still occurs. It's gotten to the point I can't load the game any more without a stutter first (at loading screen, or seconds into the game itself), then a freeze, followed by a major PC crash (black screen, sometimes completely frozen requiring hard-reset).

It's frustrating because it worked fine for many hours before this started happening. I seriously hope there's a real fix on the way soon.

Could it be related to bloated saves as the game progresses?

PS - As stated in my previous post - I'm on nVidia hardware so it's not just an AMD issue.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

So i've got back from work and managed test a bit more and nothing... still the same, crashed again. This is without a doubt a ubisoft problem.
I'm still shocked that they don't give a damn about the pc community, this is a very serious error and should have been adressed already and yet here we are without a friggin response. I'm seriously getting on my nerves here, so much that i've canceled my division pre-order.

I've completed nearly every mission / bonfire / outpost outside the snowy regions at the moment. I hope this gets fixed soon so I can finally continue with the game ffs (still can't take five steps in the northern part of the map without the game crashing like there is no tomorrow). This is obviously a fault on the game's side since oherwise it'd crash everywhere.

WOW! I managed a stable game for an hour or so. The only difference was I quickly fast travelled from the main camp (where my save had been made), to another smaller one, before the game froze. I was then able to play with no freezing / crashes. This took a few goes because mostly, the game freezes whilst loading the save. About 1 in 5 times I can get into the actual game for a minute or so before stuttering and fail. That was when I fast travelled away from there.

I think my issue is caused by the main, large camp. If it saves there then the freeze issue will occur. If I'm lucky enough to actually get into the game I can move elsewhere and save. Restart the game and everything seems to run ok.

I'm not sure if this is the actual problem because I've only tested it once but it's interesting being that I've tried more than a dozen times whilst there, and had crashes every time. Once I move from there, the game seems happy again.

I now just make sure I'm not at the main camp when I save and exit the game.

Again, I can't verify that this is 100% working but it's doing the trick for me at the moment.

Even though this is just sad it's a good thing you were able to somehow find a temporary solution for yourself (though you might have just gotten lucky).

Well that didn't last long. I'm back in crash-town again, sigh.

I managed to capture a blue-screen report -

AN ATTEMPT TO RESET THE DISPLAY DRIVER AND RECOVER FROM TIMEOUT FAILED

STOP 0X00000116 (0xFFFFFA800B020010, 0XFFFFF8800FCAA494, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009A, 0x0000000000000004)

nvlddmkm.sys - Address FFFFF8800FCAA494 BASE AT FFFFF8800F400000, DATESTAMP 56ccb9cd

I have no idea if that helps, but it shows this is GPU driver related.

I should point out that I currently have -

CoD World at War, Bound by Flame, Ryse Son of Rome, Dying Light, Elite Dangerous, Stalker Clear Sky, ARMA3, Rocksmith 2014, Metro Last Light Redux, Thief, Assassins Creed Syndicate, Watchdogs, Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen, Fallout 4 and XCOM 2 installed as well.

I can play any of those titles for as long as I like without any issues whatsoever. Far Cry Primal crashes in a very aggressive way nearly every time I try to play it though (if the PC freezes I not only have to force reset it, but also unplug it from the power and press the power button numerous times before the power light will go out after being turned off). I'd say the fact that all of these other titles run fine shows it's not a hardware issue here.

Played for 4 hours total time then tried to play the second day, game froze my whole computer - hard boot - tried playing again, took two steps, froze the whole computer - hard boot - upon rebooting and opening the game, blue screen of death... "kmode exception error" when trying to open the game. Then when even trying to go on my computer without opening far cry, i started getting freezes. Reformatted my pc, everything works fine now and ill never re-install this game again. Put in a ticket the same day I reformatted and of course they wont give any kind of refund, even though if you check the Steam posts on this game - hundreds of people got their money back. Probably wont purchase another ubisoft game, and if I do it wont be through them.

One of the problems is crashing as soon as launching/entering the game and the other is crashing in the snowy regions. 285/380/380x users are having the 'crash in the snowy regions.', myself included (for me, the game also crashed during the terrible Legend of the Mammoth DLC, as it is set in an enclosed area covered with snow). Going back as far as 15.11 did not solve the problem. I would really appreciate a fix, but keep in mind that these two look like two different problems the team has to look into.

Also, it would help if everyone wrote their specs:

I have the same issue with the driver being forcefully restarted on an AMD R9 380, 4GB VRAM. It's actually close to 100% when you're up north and near a fire/campfire. It happens from low-highest settings, there is nothing the GFX setting change can make it work. Sometimes it crashes at spawn if looking at the fire directly.

Anyway, I did post on AMD's website a crash dump + kernel memory dump of the driver hang, but no response so far. Since it's a driver crash, they are the best to analyze it and forward the info to the dev team.

I've created a thread on AMD's website here, feel free to post in:

https://community.amd.com/thread/197594

Edit:

I'm on Windows 10 x64, i5-2500k, 16 GB Ram, SSD + HDD
I've also tested the game on a workstation at work which had 970 gtx, but it did not crash.

I think this is a problem with AMD and their drivers.
Similar problems I had with the Rainbow Six Siege (owners of R9 380 cards also). Just after the release of 16.1 Driver (and late versions) problems are completely disappeared.

EmptyFigure

One of the problems is crashing as soon as launching/entering the game and the other is crashing in the snowy regions. 285/380/380x users are having the 'crash in the snowy regions.', myself included (for me, the game also crashed during the terrible Legend of the Mammoth DLC, as it is set in an enclosed area covered with snow). Going back as far as 15.11 did not solve the problem. I would really appreciate a fix, but keep in mind that these two look like two different problems the team has to look into.

Also, it would help if everyone wrote their specs:

Sapphire R9 380X Nitro

i5 2400

Gigabyte H61 (or P61, not really sure) Motherboard

8 GB 1333 MHZ RAM

Onboard audio

Asus R9 380 STRIX 4GB VRAM
Asus P8H77-M-LE, i5 3540
16 GB DDR3 RAM
Sound Blaster Audacity ll
Corsair CX600 PSU (600W)
Windows 7 SP1

AMD's Crimson drivers won't fix this issue (they make it actually worse, causing stuttering), neither the older Catalyst versions such as 15.7.1

This is the same problem I'm having. I realized yesterday that during every crash, I was looking directly at fire. No crashes yet today but I'm doing my best to avoid fire in a game full of it.

yep, I just played around the southern region for 3+ hours without a single crash. I went to northern part afterwards to try my luck and got crashed in at most 2 minutes.

please fix this already, I am getting so s&t of it, at this point I am 100% sure my problem has something to do with snow and this is exclusive to primal cuz I haven't crashed once in far cry 4 at the himalayas. give the players an option to disable volumetric fog, it may have something to do with that seriously

things like this are a chance for the companies to show that they actually give a **** about their customers imo, idk why this still isn't in the known issues list after so many complaints, it is nearly as common as that firewall issue

which sadly means they also have no idea what's causing it, my bet is on volumetric fog (just a guess tho)

I would also like to have an option to turn off godrays

they just have to look at what effect the snowy areas have that the others don't, it could be easy to pinpoint the problem this way, however people reported crashes while looking at fire etc. as well so idk, it just seems to happen mainly at the northern part of the map

That's very similar to my experience. Once it crashes your PC, it crashes it good!

I sat up all night backing everything up and reloading Windows. I did decide to re-install Far Cry afterwards and guess what? Same problem.

I've been running 3D mark for a few hours with no problems so again, I fully believe this is an issue with the game and not faulty hardware / software on my PC.

Hello everyone,
I write here because I have the same black-screen problem. I've got a good system, here the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700
Mobo: ASRock H170 Pro4 1151 ATX HDMI/DVI DDR4
RAM: Corsair DDR4 PC 2133 CL13 Kit 8 GB (2 x 4 GB)
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 380 4 GB

I've run into this problem 5-6 times until now and I tried almost everything: from reducing settings to low or normal to check up all the hardware; I already installed the latest AMD driver (16.2.1) and nothing changed. As someone noticed above, the black-screen problem - which forces me to hard-reboot PC - is more frequent in the northen-snowy area and not in the woods near Takkar's village.
I am very angry for this problem and even more I am tired of trying to repair it; my system runs without a single problem other games that are more performance-hungry than this one, and never shows a single issue, it's sad that happened with Primal because I'm enjoying the adventure so far (15-20 hours I think).
I am afraid I must stop playing it for now, waiting for someone (AMD? Ubisoft?) to do something. Sure I will never buy one of their games the first day it will come out.

Random Black screen happends to me also. Sometimes i could play about 4 hours without no issues other times i manage to play only 10 minutes before black screen spawns I'm forced to do a hard reset, I'm playing in the southern part of the map and it happends to me ramdomly wherever I go.

This is not an issue of R9 3 Radeon card only, I've an Nvidia Card Titan X and I have black screen issue also (Windows 10). I've tried to do everything, update drivers (362.00), use perfomance settings with low quality and dindt solve the problem at all, I cant check files integrity from Uplay, i'm Steam user and i check it up there and nothing happends the problem stills.

P.E. I've decided not to buy the division game until Ubisoft give to me guarantee that i could play to far cry primal game without any problem I dont want to waste my money with broken/unpolished games anymore. I'm quite angry I'm sorry.

They don't care. Hell, we haven't even gotten any word about anything on the known issues list, let alone this issue. We have already bought the game, they made their money and with no DLC in the pipeline they have little reason to care. They are focused on The Division. It's microtransaction heavy and is going to be their main money maker.

Maybe it won't be such a bad thing if Vivendi acquires Ubi.

Hi everyone,

I apologize for the lagged response. Most CMs and CRs don't work weekends, and I've been out of work due to a medical issue. This is the first I've been on the forums in a few days. You should be submitting tickets to the support (http://support.ubi.com)team when you come across any technical issues such as what you're describing. We definitely care, The support team will help you problem solve issues if it's from your end, and the dev team will work hard to fix any issues coming from our end. Thanks for your patience.

Hope you get well soon :) To be honest, one of the problems is quite obvious; the owners of 285/380/380x are immediately crashing when they look at any fire source in the snowy regions, and it should not require 'individiual tickes' at this point. Also it is a bit late for that as people who paid good money for it cannot play their game right now; this is something the team needed to get on yesterday. If everything requires individual tickes, then why does the "Technical Support" forums exist, right?

We already told you, we own these graphics cards (285/380/380x), and we are having this VERY easily reproducible problem, which can be reproduced by looking at any fire source in the snowy regions. This problem DOES NOT and SHOULD NOT require individiual tickets. Just get a PC with 285/380/380x installed and look at a fire in the northern regions or any area with snow. The game will immediately crash :D

Hmm get better soon,
but i don´t see a Reason not to respond from your side.
I have contacted UBI witth a Ticket, as well as my Friends have, because they also have the R9 200-300x Series Problem.
Not enough for that, my EPU Burned away on Friday while trying to play FC Primal and hat this mentioned issue forcing the PC to Hardreset.
Now my EPU got wrong Voltages and i had "FATAL" Errors after that on my Windows 10 x64 Enterprise Edition.
First of all, i had to buy a new EPU wich definitly got burned because of this fatal Error with reseting the Display Driver.

Therefor i suggest to everyone here not to play this Game anymore until Ubisoft has fixed their Stability/Compatibility Problems on R Series AMD Cards.
Friend of mine who is Hardware Specialist in Germany working for Nato checked on my PC and said, the Game was definitly the Source of the EPU dying because of this forcefull Crash it provokes.

Now the Game didnt cost me 55€ but 150€ and a lot of Repair Work on my PC, wich is besides my Studio PC wich i´m professionally working on for the living.

I Dont think UBI will refund my damage as well i´m too lazy to get my Lawyers started (even if i got a Law inssurance)

What i want to hear from UBI (and i wait for that since the problem startet 1 week ago) they work on that specific Problem, because in their "Known Issues List" is nothing about the Hard Reset Force Crash, besides every Glitches and Bug´s this is a Major thing and should not be ignored.
I counted around 120 People + around my Friend´s, this Forum as well as other Forums that got exact the same Problem.

Like i said, i suggest everyone not to play the game if you love your PC and it´s (hopefully still) working Hardware in it.

(Still waiting for the Ticket to get answered, but like many say here, it is not a Ticket issue)

UBI Hurry up for your Money!!!!!

I am not sure if it's the fire or not but it DEFINITELY has to do something with the snowy regions, I am sure of this.

Come on, so many people are waiting for a patch for this problem so that they can keep playing their games.

I appreciate the reply from representative but as others are saying, the problem is nearly the same for everyone therefore a ticket isn't necessary (even though I sent one 2 days ago w/ no replies).

p.s. it shouldn't be forgotten that this problem isn't exclusive to amd cards, people reported the same problem with nvidia cards as well (seems like most people here have a R9 380 though).

For my part i sent u guys a ticket. But the response i got was hilarious, actually sad.

The supporter said the issues that causes the game to crash were:
Too less space on C: (my game is installed on another harddrive.
Too many autostart programs (lol)
Too many background programs (lol)
My audio driver is outdated (lol)

Anyone who knows a little bit about PC's knows these issues arent the cause by far.

It seems like this answer was just another preformulated phrase to calm people down and give them false hopes.
I didnt bother answering aswell cause i know there will be no solution via the support ticket.

Thanks for sharing this, TheRealSepp. I would challenge you to try what the support rep suggested, and let them know if the suggestions did or did not work.

Honestly, this is why I never really use support. Yes, I have a problem with your game, but a generic, "pre-recorded" reply quickly sent before the "support rep" races out for their coffee or lunch, is not helping anyone. I would bet my left nut that if this person DID go through these banal suggestions, the issue would still remain, hence it's a waste of time. I can't for the life of me see why companies provide support if they just intend to wasting peoples times with "you've got a reply of sorts, now leave me alone", type responses. I should point out I've worked in high-level I.T. for over 20 years AND have worked on a support desk so yeah, I know how it works.

Having said that, I've performed a complete reload of my PC. Drivers are all the most current I can find and there's minimal startup items, yet the problem is exactly as before. It occurred the very first time I tried FC:P after going through this whole process.

Now, here's the kicker - I'm using a brand new GPU (nVidia 970gtx). I've also replaced my power supply (1000W), hard drives and RAM, ran MEMTEST overnight and performed bench-marking with 3DMark looped for quite a number of hours with no problems whatsoever, yet the EXACT same problem occurs when I try to play FC:P.

I firmly believe this is a software / game / GPU drivers issue only.

p.s. I am going to try something right now, I'll let you guys know if it works.

nope, doesn't work (tried 30fps)

I just noticed something, it crashes when there are multiple enemies in the snowy areas, it didn't crash when I ran around an open area with some trees and 1-2 mammoths for 5 minutes but crashed when I went in front of a cave with some Udam enemies (idk if that helps).

Guess I'll add my voice to the chorus. R9 380 4GB. I can play the game flawlessly everywhere except in the snowy north. When I go there I crash within minutes. It's not isolated to any one snowy area.

Come on Ubi, just scoot this up the chain to your devs. It is a known, reproducible issue. As it stands you're charging for a non working product. If you can't at least acknowledge the issue by end of day tomorrow and commit to fixing it I will be disputing the charge with my credit card provider for reimbursement . I'm normally more patient and polite but you have pages of people plainly telling you how to reproduce the issue. Stop telling people to file tickets and take responsibility.

Nice patch ubisoft:mad:

Since the small patch today i cant play the game anymore. It freezes completely at the startup right at the warning screen, sometimes in the main start screen and i have to reset my PC. Before today i just had a crash sometimes at startup.

Same here crashing with my MSI R9 380 4gb. Once i go to the northern area's i crash within 5 minutes. Crash goes to black screen, sound still on. I have to open the task manager and close the program. In Win 10 event manager i get the error: amdkmdap failed.

This happens on AC: Syndicate too!!!! Somehow related to the AMD Drivers i'm afraid.

( the drivers are the latest. tried both the hotfix and the verified WHQL release ) Other games work fine even on the highest settings. ( no probs at all with Witcher 3 for example! )

I went to AMD site the other day and read latest driver's release notes, Far Cry wasn't on their "known issues" list, so I sent them a note; I doubt this will change anything, but maybe if we all write to them they will at least acknowledge the issue. Still, I'm not sure this is a problem AMD should solve (someone with Nvidia cards also get the issue) or Ubisoft; what I know is that today, like yesterday, I couldn't play the game for reasons not depending on my hardware and that's quite as disappointing as not a word has been said from Ubisoft but "check that you didn't cause the problem"; what's the point in having a technical issues section like this one to begin with?

I have the same issues and I'm using nVidia. The recent patch seems to have fixed the problem for me but I'll not get too excited just yet. I've had FC:P play fine before only to crash in the way described in this thread the very next time I try to load it.

Maybe this patch has fixed the issue for nVidia users but not AMD?

First tried to verify (everything was fine)
Uninstall reinstall game, still not working
I did uninstall all Microsoft C++ Redistributable related files
I did install from all your links the fresh versions
I tried to start game, was not working
I rebooted and started the game, still not working
I verified my game files, no problems detected
I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, started the game, still not working
Rebooted, started the game, finally working !

So IDK what was the true problem, but it's now working.

For inmformation, I have a GTX 970, latest drivers in date (364.47)

PS : Uninstalling and reinstalling the game do not screw your save game since it's in sync with UPlay.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forums!

Have you tried verifying the files in the Uplay client?

Can you also try the following?:

- Open your Control Panel, uninstall anything which is related to Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

- Once this is done, please download and install the following files :

9 days since launch still no fix:mad: 14 forum pages on the same issue and that issue isn’t on the "known issue list" I completely understand having issues when making games for PC there is a lot of variables you have to compensate for, but the lack of acknowledgement of the issue and feeling of being ignored as a customer is unacceptable. This company is losing money when it makes its customer base angry by this unacceptable behavior. I was going to get The Division but not now. Any other Ubisoft games that I find interesting no longer will I pre-buy I will wait for the 14.99 version and be able to play a completely stable game. Another r9 380 4gb user here.

And yes, the issue is most definitely a problem with the snowy northern region. I have not been able to play since last Wednesday due to this. I was loading at a northern camp with lots of fire. Crashed within seconds of moving. I fast travelled to another camp and ran around for ages without a problem. This was still in the north however. Then decided to locate a fire. Found the smallest of fires, ran up to it and low and behold, the game crashed (Display driver has stopped responding).

That does seem to help some but there's a lot of people encountering the issue who don't overclock (like myself).

Does anyone know what the 1.1.2 patch did? I heard that it was nothing more than language fixes but since that came out, I've had no crashes at all. I don't know if it's a coincidence (before this patch I would very occasionally get a stable game but mostly it would black-screen and die), or if this actually sorted something.

I'm using an nVidia GPU so maybe the issue is fixed for nVidia users but not AMD?

Errr lads.. I just under-clocked my GPU.. all seems to be well now..

Glad to hear it, but there's no excuse for a game or video card crashing while using reasonably up to date drivers and while the card is being operated at the factory-default voltage and clock. Overclocking destabilizes systems and shortens the lifespan of hardware, and a game that crashes the system under any circumstances is risking data loss for the user. Whereas underclocking to avoid a crash is not something anyone should have to do in order to use the hardware and software that they paid for. If I wanted a card with lower performance, I could have bought one for less money.

If this is a Ubisoft problem, there needs to be a patch for it sooner rather than later. If it turns out to be an AMD problem, it had better be addressed in a driver update that doesn't compromise the level of performance I shelled out for. Otherwise it seems they're selling hardware that can't be operated at its advertised specifications. Neither one is acceptable or excusable.

The sad thing about that thread is it's people who were BETA testing the game last year.

YouBeSoft have known about this issue since well before the final release yet here we sit, game crashing and completely unplayable for those who are unlucky enough to encounter what's obviously an old, and known issue that followed through to the retail version.

That's pretty shady.

Do you have an R9 380 ? I've just finished the game by constantly looking at the ground whenever I am moving in snowy areas. After 20+ crashes or so, I was able to complete the main mission, explore all the caves and get 12/12 on every journey.

Guys, I'd like to point out that the R9 380 users aren't experiencing a CTD in Primal only. Bethesda got literally ***-raped by hateful gamers who are getting CTDS whenever rain falls from the sky or a thunderbolt strikes. Seems like new weather effects are causing this, but nobody has an answer - not AMD, not Ubisoft and definitely not Bethesda.

Can you confirm you didn't run into black screens and the game didn't freeze for some hours? Just today I updated AMD drivers to latest version, but I didn't try the game and I am not even sure if I want to do that, because in this thread there is people saying the issue may ruin the system, someone says to disable power efficiency; one simply doesn't know what to do and Ubisoft does not say anything still.

You have to enable "unlock voltage control" in afterburner settings and then restart the computer. Should allow you to overvolt up to +100mv.

Ok so i increased the voltage by 15 mV like someone suggested in the other thread, it's now around 918 mV, is this dangerous? I don't have much experience with overclocks.

Should be fine but I'll give you the typical spiel: Raising voltages may decrease the life of your card. That being said, the main danger of overvolting is overheating so just watch your temps. I have my 380 at +70mv and 1130 core clock. Highest voltage while gaming is about 1.3v but my card never goes above 68c. Make sure you have the power limit raised to +20% also.

I have tried primal with my cpu and gpu at stock speeds and it makes no difference.

Well i tried it cuz a guy in other thread posted that this problem happened a lot in farcry 3 and the only solution was overvolting by 15 mV, since dunia engines are power hungry, i only increased the mv by 15 and it crashed on the main menu

i tried all that too, even tried underclocking the clock speeds as some1 suggested here.. still no change. in fact upping the voltage did exactly the same as u, crashed at main menu, funnily enough tho, its the same black screen crash

exactly, guess it's time to give up on this game for good, if the own developers dont make a move to adress this...

I am starting to think they are waiting for us to find a solution so they can tell it to other people. :D
I refuse to overclock or underclock a GPU just to make a game run fine, that's senseless: a game should run fine with it's own settings on the graphics cards the developers create it for; I understand if someone wants more and overclocks, but that must not be the solution. =\

no ur completely right, we shouldnt have to lift a finger to get the game to run properly. the problem is the game DOES ACTUALLY WORK on other gpu's so its not really ubisofts problem, im afraid the ball has landed in amd's court and they have had the black screen of death issue for much longer than primal's been out and have said nothing on the matter. the farcry primal crash threads on the amd forums havnt changed that either. still nothing

Post fx set on normal and leave AA off seems to make it work!
I play now for 1hrs without any crash and stutter.
Im R9 Series User, and compety flipped out the other days, so it seems to have some issue with AA in general on the snowy and firey areas.
Try to deactivate AA and set post fx to normal and hopefully is should do for you guys, press both thumbs for you :)

Havent heard anyone complaining about R9 290's

So far the complaints seem to be coming mainly from owners of R9 380 and R9 285 GPUs. According to their Wikipedia pages, both these cards share the same chip architecture, GCN 1.2.

The R9 285 is the only Rx-200 series card with GCN 1.2. The R9 290s all seem to be using GCN 1.1. Also, RX-300 series GPUs mostly have GCN 1.0 and 1.1 architectures except for:

R9 380
R9 380 (OEM versions)
R9 380X
R9 Fury
R9 Nano
R9 Fury X

Of the Rx-300 series, if anyone owns the Fury, Nano or Fury X, I would be interested to know if they are affected as well or only R9 380 variants. Basically, if you don't own one of the above cards it sounds like the black-screen crash in northern Oros isn't going to affect you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_Radeon_Rx_300_series

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_Radeon_Rx_200_series

BTW, I'm still getting the crash with yesterday's 16.3 driver update.

But there are persons above who reported to get the black screen issue while using Nvidia cards.
Also I don't understand why a system that ran perfectly The Witcher 3 for more than 100 hours get such a problem with Far Cry, that's not a graphically light title.

Tried that and actually was able to capture an outpost in a snowy area. Took the game longer to crash and actually this time the graphics driver stopped and restarted, leaving me with just having to kill the game in the task manager rather than hard resetting my computer.
I see this as a vast improvement already. Maybe a step in the right direction ;)

Ok, people, I managed to do some test on my PC few minutes ago and here are the facts (sorry for some mistakes, I'm not English-native):

1. Someone suggested me an overheated GPU may cause a black screen (a.k.a. driver crash), so I remove my case's front pannel and cleaned up dust; there wasn't much, the inside was clean and all parts were dirtless.

2. I manually verified each and every single driver, to be sure nothing was outdated. Everything was perfectly up-to-date, nothing to be done here.

3. I ran Heaven Benchmark with maximum specs in window mode for 39 minutes with CPUID HWMonitor beside to check temperatures; everything was normal: MOBO temperature reached 49 °C (but just once, it ran very below that temperature for the most part), CPU cores reached 51 °C (but were normally on 19-23 °C), GPU [MSI Radeon R9 380] was almost stable on 63-65 °C. After that I did the Benchmark again for 10 minutes with v-sync activated. Everything was normal and ran fine.

4. I verified the game files with Uplay client.

5. I turned off every single program that could cause conflics: my antivirus, AMD Gaming Evolved, CCleaner, OneDrive, Pushbullet. Nothing was running besides the game, Uplay and CPUID.

6. I launched the game from UPlay, open video settings, put the game in window mode and set all values on balanced, which for my system means high-ultra; I lowered shadow, fog and water effects, turned off antialiasing and set Post FX to Low.

7. I loaded my game (I had saved in northern region) and it froze 2 second later. A sound from Windows told me something, probably that the graphics driver crashed. I hoped that, having the game in window mode, I could have return to desktop, but it was useless, I had to force-reboot my PC.

With all these tests I think I proved it does not depend on my hardware, it is not something I can repair by myself. This is a software problem, something Ubisoft or AMD must resolve with a patch as soon as possible.

I hope some of them is reading my message, I wrote to this section's moderators early this morning and told them about this thread. I suggest you to do the same and, if they do not listen or pretend not to listen, to turn to other legal means to preserve your rights.

What a nuisance.

I encountered something interesting.
Like i wrote before if i put out AA completly i can go in the Northern Snowy Areas for very long time.
It only crashes when i zoom in my bow (sometimes) and if Enemy AI is getting attracted to me in combination with fire.
Now i monitored with the Taskmanager on my 2nd Screen, that short before the Crash the System Ram usage is shooting up in the Sky to 1Gb to 1,8Gb.
Maybe Ubisoft can do something with that.....???

Hey you UBI programmers....read the S+++ we are monitoring and reportings to you an reproduce it, and way before that give a statement that you are working on that matter

Having the same Problem with an R9 380 card.
Tried setting post fx on normal and AA off -> still crashed
Tried underclocking the GPU by 20 % -> still crashed

One thing I noticed: when the game crashed the second time I was able to get in the task manager and kill the process. I then went into the amd crimson settings afterwards, and THEN the black screen crash occurred.

So this could possibly be a amd issue (faulty chipset on the card or something like that ?)
I found a thread in the amd forum describing the problem here:
https://community.amd.com/thread/197594

And just like Ubisoft, AMD never even acknowledged the problem....
I opened up a ticket there as well to my existing case with Ubisoft, we'll see what happens.

I am running a Windows 7 (64-Bit) system which cleanly handles Witcher III (and other graphics intense games) on VERY HIGH & ULTRA SETTINGS. In terms of critical components, system has:: (1) ASRock X99 Extreme4 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel MB; (2) Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W Desktop Processor; (3) HyperX FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Intel X99; (4) SAPPHIRE NITRO Radeon R9 380 DirectX 12 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP.

I access the game through Steam. I have the most current BIOS and MB & Video Drivers. I have verified the game file(s) via Steam File Verification.

With regard to specific crash locations, I found that Shaman/Mammoth/Rhino Quest is impossible to complete as it does not do check-point saves and invariably crashes along the way. I found the came crashed several times when I went on the Hunter Quest where I find the body of a fallen High Elk (and only got past it by running in from a distance, hitting E to engage the quest, and once obtained - crash - I could then run away and have quest. I had to take a similar approach to the lower northland bonfire located on the tip of a cliff. I can kill the 3 Udham with bow though once I entered the camp to light the bonfire - crash-crash-crash-crash-crash - I spawned close enough to the bonfire to have 2-seconds to light it - crash - game save had it light so - I ran away as soon as next reload finished. Even so, I am exploring the northlands and it seems like the game crashes all the time for no reason in the snowy lands (where you need extra clothing - I have been running around in the south with extra clothing skill in play without issue).

ADDENDUM TO LOCATIONS: Since writing this original post on Discussion (Primal) on Steam, I have completed nearly all of the Southern Realms (aka Need to Complete Final Quest To Access Temple). I can play all of the warmer climates WITHOUT A SINGLE CRASH. With regard to quests in the north, I was able to start the quest for Yellow Flowers in Udam land, I was captured, talked to Ull (and saw son), and was working on completing the "Search The Caves" to escape quest - and after fighting through the first cave - I crashed HARD just outside of the second cave. AGAIN, I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH - THE GAME ONLY CRASHES IN THE NORTH - IS THERE AN ISSUE RENDERING SNOW? WITH COLD DAMAGE CALCULATION (I do have warm clothes so I sustain no damage).

In short, I suffer repeated crashes in various site specific places and randomly in the northern lands where it freezes, locks down game, and minimizes it - mouse is locked until I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del > Task Manager and kill the game.

I have to say these repeated crashes are ruining what might be a great game. ADDENDUM: In fact, I would say that these crashes, being limited to the NORTH LANDS, have effectively cut me off from playing a good 1/3 of the game and have played a SIGNIFICANT ROLE in RUINING my GAME EXPERIENCE!

ANY HELP OR PATCHES WOULD BE GREAT - OTHERWISE - I GUESS I GET 2/3RDS of a game.

Has sm1 tried this driver?
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx
just uninstall the current video driver in safe mode using DDU etc. and instal the CCC beta driver.
This is not the only game with this issue. There are several non Ubisoft games with the exact same issue related to r9 380/ 285 (tonga) video cards.Always crimson drivers.

There is no latest beta driver atm. Checking every day, 16.3 hotfix is latest and stable

edit: stable but not with far cry primal for sure lol , no fix yet

Its actually a catalyst control center driver. not a crimson driver. check : https://community.amd.com/thread/197686
Have no acces to my desktop right now to test it personaly :(. The OP reports it fixed the issue for him. at least in Assassin's Creed: Syndicate and Fallout 4.
Not sure if this is true also for FC: primal.

i would say don't try 15.11.1

http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/amd-catalyst-15-11-1-beta-driver-download.html

[99999] Far Cry 4: The game may hang on launch on some AMD Radeon™ 200 and 300 series products under Windows® 7 and Windows® 8.1

far cry 4 used the same game engine as Primal

if anyone needs a link for the older AMD drivers to try go here if ya cant find them on AMD's site (amd i think removes some beta drivers.. this site still has them up )

Have any of you above been submitting support (http://support.ubi.com)tickets? It helps a) get you someone to problem solve other than WID (who is awesome, and much appreciated by the way!!) and b) gives more information to help the team understand the scale of the problem and work toward a solution.

How about reading the f*****g thread? Most people here have submitted tickets. I have, days ago and heard nothing. You people keep popping in here from time to time saying "PM me if you've not received a reply", "submit tickets", etc etc. THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING FOR DAYS NOW (possibly weeks for some), with NO RESPONSE.

So please, remind me again - why the f**k should we bother? It's obviously a case of Youbesoft mods popping into these threads from time to time, posting some inane rubbish to make it look like they're actually doing something.

We HAVE submitted tickets. It's your turn to dish out some helpful, non-generic replies or at the very least, give us some indication on how your progress (if any), towards resolving this is going.

I would like to call the AMD support and talk to them directly, but a phone call to another coutry is seriously expensive and i can't afford that luxury (nor i have to, it's not a problem i created), do they have a free international phone line so we can call them?

AMD has hotlines in several countries, may of them toll free, see here:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/contact/call

Ubisoft also has hotlines, if you log into the support centre you should be able to find one for your region, I'm from Germany so the only hotline numbers for Ubisoft I found are these:

Germany: 069 999915592
Austria: 012 06091819
Switzerland: 0445111222

Will start calling them middle of next week if they keep on ignoring me.

My Ticket number with Ubi: 03018008
My Ticket number with AMD: 8200681909

solved the crash i was getting on my AMD 5770 and the HD7750 cards i have

tried both AMD Crimson 15.12 saw lower FPS went back to 15.7.1 WHQL drivers

Cleared out all AMD drivers using DDU

DELETED the left over driver folders on Drive C:\

installed the 15.7 .1 driver ..rebooted

re ran Direct X from the games support folder AFTER installing the 15.7 .1 drivers , and just played for over an hour in the northern regions with out a single crash
yes in the snowy part .... not a single crash

i do have Razer cortex installed and it ran and killed off almost a dozen services in Win 7 before the game launched

i was getting 45 - 65 FPS on the 5770 card resolution was @ 1440 X 900 max res for my old 16:10 screen that's connected to that old computer
and yes i was in the far northern parts of the game map

video settings set to all NORMAL not ultra or high or low just Normal ( i selected that since a 5770 is the lowest supported GPU )

SMAA = enabled
motion blur OFF

PC Specs
Dell Dimension E 520 (the freaking thing is ancient..think i got it in 2006 ? )
Intel core 2 quad Q6600 @ stock
HIS AMD HD 5770 1 gig DDDR5 GPU
AMD Driver version 15.7,1 WHQL
6 gig of DDR 2 ram Pc 2 6400
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate With SP 1 installed 64 bit

if you guys are still having problem

try this

get and USE DDU clear out your old drivers and try the 15.7 .1 drivers ..then delete the left over driver folders from your drive in the AMD folder

after you reinstall the drivers re run Direct X setup from the Primal \ support \ software folder

try using Razer cortex to disable any un needed Windows backround services (again that program really does seem to work very well )

i mean its pretty bad if i can get the game running that well on an Old Dell with an HD 5770 and a R9 3XX card crashes

yesterday i did get the crash in the snowy part

the crash said

so i saw that and figured it had to be a direct X error
so if you look up your crash reports and see the same error .. reinstall Direct X

again Yesterday the game ran crash free till i hit a snowy part of the game map ... once i did.. BOOM ..... within 60 seconds it crashed with that error

game froze .. then went to black screen with that error

now that i rolled back the drivers and clean installed the driver using DDU to wipe out my old drivers .. then re installed direct X the problem is gone

and here was my responce to it

All the recommendations you made I have already tried. The problem for me is specific to 1 game because that is the only game I have that it occurs on. As I have found scattered across your forums, it happens with many games. So its not a specific problem atall as there are literally hundreds of people on your forums with the same problem. So I suggest you stop replying with generic "reinstall your drivers" replies and get on with fixing your drivers because they don't work

Hey. If you randomly start friezes terrible, especially when opening the world map, go Documents\My Games\Far Cry Primal. Open with notepad GamerProfile. Find DisableLoadingMip0="0" and change to DisableLoadingMip0="1"
To me it helped. Map of the world does not lag. And the game itself began to go more smoothly, especially on snowy locations north.

CPU: i5-750 (2.67-3.2Ghz)
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 2Gb OC

Thank you!

Btw i don't want to be the rebel one but i don't think it's ubisoft's or amd's or even nvidia for 970 users fault, game started freezing at random points indipendently from where we reached in the main story, before i had this hardfreeze problem i spent much time in the northern region without problems, crashed 1 or 2 times in 4 days but then happened something that i think it's the reason for many problems, windows update 4th march, from that update i didn't have only problems with far cry primal but also with the division which came out 4 days later, with GTA V which keeps hardfreezing if i run it in full screen (only solution was windowed borderless) and now with hitman too. For those who didn't notice, 2 days ago there was a 2nd windows update which apparently solved only the problem with hitman and the division.. in the other 2 i still keep crashing. Pls feel free to correct me if i am wrong but i don't think it's just a coincidence and if you think about it it's really strange that neither ubisoft or amd or nvidia solved this question considering that it is a really big problem right now.

The driver for r9 380 is just a piece of ****. Dont know if its a win10/driver problem, Not sure if i can blame the game, when there are several more games with this issue hmm. Lets wait for a response from amd.

Edit: Fo4 rain is the same as FCP snow. They are now testing hdmi/dvi cables . talk about despair.

Ok so i tried the new Patch, still crashing...
I made a test and put in another Hardrive to my PC and Build up a clean install of Windows 10 with the actual 15.3 Drivers from AMD.
I also got the R9 300 Series.
The f****ng Game is still crashing, resetting the GPU Driver and sometimes giving me a Hardreset freeze.....

Now i did uninstall my U Play and whoever wants to buy my Uplay account with it´s Games, you can have it for cheap, i got FC3,FC4,FC Primal,Hawx2,SC Blacklist.
I do not support UBI anymore ever!!!!

IS anybody out there in Ubisoft land doing anything about this complete f*ck up of a game ?????

Do you even recognise there is a major problem ?????

Do you ever read this forum ??????

Do you even CARE ?????

This has gone on for far too long, the last patch was a joke. Why not fix the HUGE error first ?????

NEVER going to buy your games again !!!

again its most likely a driver problem not just a game one

or it would be happening to everyone ..and it's not occurring on every system

i use a GTX 960 and have not had a single crash with Nvidia driver 359.06
i had a problem on my AMD 5770 board in my old Win 7 machine , to fix it i wiped the drivers with DDU . installed AMD driver version 15.7.1 WHQL drivers ... Clean ...with no driver bloat like AMD gaming evolved..... and re ran the Direct X setup from withing the games folders

that machine no longer crashes in the snowy parts \ with texture setting @ NORMAL i get 40 to 60 FPS @ 1440 X 900

AMD has already said two days ago they are looking into it .. you gonna have to wait an see if they release a fixed WHQL driver , the last WHQL driver from AMD also caused several other games to freeze ..go look on google ..all of the 16 series drivers are all BETA drivers the last WHQL driver was version 15.12 and yes it had problems in some games

i suggest you open a support ticket with AMD

you can see AMD responded that they are looking into it here
