Dear all,
A while ago I asked you for some advice on a computer purchase...
I did purchase and AMD and will never go back to P4 anymore, ,that is for sure...
I budgeted for a ATI 9600 128, and hopefully will get a 9800 one day but what drivers do you use for your ATI card?
Are the latest Catalyst drivers the "best"?
Sorry, newbie to ATI, used to have FX card....

The new Catalyst drivers are fine. They are meant to be faster at pixel shading but i havent done any benchmarks. I had to kill Directx 9b (successful without re-install, dont listen to that reformatting stuff) as I had stick problems and i do think there was a performance increase as well so stick with 9.0a.

I used the 3.9 Catalyst drivers on my ATI 9700pro, and when I upgraded to the new Catalyst drivers, I lost clouds. All I could get was either blue sky, or a flat layer, no fluffy clouds.
When I went back to the 3.9 version, the clouds came back. Just FYI...

Yes. It did make a difference. My 3Dmark scorse went up about 200 - 250 marks.
But of course the real test is gameplay. It set funny shadows in my UT2004 demo. Maybe some tweaking required. I've experienced NO anomolies in LOMAC. And It did give me about 4 to 12 more frames now THATS a difference if you ask me.
BTW I have
3.2GHZ AMD
9600XT - Average from 25 to 55FPS With 6xAA and 8xAF with 1024x768
1GB PC3200RAM
My systems very stable. and lomac is very good WITH a good system.
;-) note to all. hehe

well i have a radeon 9500 pro 128 w/ flashed bios of an 9700pro ..i have overclocked it to 308 in both core/memory...from 275.. i have tried every set of cats and omegas but have still found cat(omegas) 3.7 to get the best score....my systems specs..
P4 2.53 533mhz
WD 100gig 7200rpm
pc2100 (233) 1gig
9500 pro/9700 pro (oc 308)
and on 3dmark2001 i have a score of 12663...when i installed the new 4.3 cats i had a score of 9600 which is a BIG drop...so i have to say if u havent tried thm yet give omega 3.7 a try...
