I, like most other people am a better mercenary than spy, but i have played with people that i can be in a corner and it seems to me like they get near me and my body spins around and they have my neck. Can anyone fill me in on if this kind of thing happens or am I just imagining it?

Well, I can agree with you somewhat. I've had this kind of **** happen to me. If they used smoke on you, then thats an unbalance in the game for the Merc becuase they seem to be 50% more open to getting grabbed. I;ve seen a spy on the side of my screen, a split second after that i was dead becuase he broke my neck and there was no way he got around behind me in theat amount of time.

But another reason can be lag, sometimes the spy isnt exactly where your looking (even though on you screen you looking at the spy) on the spy's screen he'd be ahead of where u think he is and in turn able to grab your neck becuase he isnt where your looking and can get bahind you easier.

It's probably lag. You probably turned at just the right angle and he grabbed you (but on your screen he's right in front of you, or wherever).

If you can't charge out of the smoke towards the spy, all you can do is duck and hope your partner helps out.

its eaither happening because of lag or because hes just sneaky. to avoid it just stay in ur corner and DONT MOVE. wait for him to stop tryin and run off, then shoot him in the backhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif.

There DEFINITELY is a Host-Advantage when it comes to snapping of necks. When I am hosting, I can get in behind a merc and snap his neck without much of an issue. When I am a merc and the host, I have a much easier time protecting myself.

However, when I am in other peoples rooms, the spy (who is the host) can be literally right next to me (not behind me), tapping his A-button, and boom, I am caught in his grips. If I am the spy and try to grab his neck from what appears to be behind him on my screen, it just *****-slaps him!

commenting on what sr637 said the lag is definately a problem when on my screen im right behind the merc i push A and next thing i know i am thrown in front of him and he kills me... will the connection speed in optimatch be able to let me know which rooms this problem will be worse in or what ?

When using optimatch, wait an extra 5 seconds or so for the "connection boxes" to show you who has what. If it is three yellow or four green boxes, you should be good to go. If it is two orange or one red, stay away!

In the next patch, they should requires the spies to fall from a point above the Merc's head in order to knock him out. This would minimize double-jumping issues. Jumps from lesser heights could just knock the Merc back.

If this was implemented, crouching would be a better defense for the Merc who doesn't want his neck snapped. Then, when he is knocked out by the spy's eblow, the spy won't be able to kill him by jumping off the nearest table 2 times. If someone jumped on me from a table, it would hurt, but somehow I doubt that I would die.

I think the idea is that the Spys are adept at killing people by jumping on them. If your friend hit you, you would probably be fine. If an Airborne Ranger trained in martial-arts hit you, you might be in the hospital. I think that's the idea of the double-jump.

How do you fix the double-jump? Don't get jumped.

ummm actually, If someone jumped on me from ceiling rafters, we'd both be dead. If someone jumped on me from the table, even if they were trained in martail arts, it WOULD be more effective to break my neck while I'm unconcious. The idea is that you should have time to get away, but DJ'ing eliminates the whole point of only taking half health. The mercs should at least have a chance to, I don't know, roll away?
It's kinda cheap that you can't do anything.
