hi
i hope you guys can help here ......

i've got a new computer with XP home - installed settlers 4 but it won't run
i get the initial rectangle image with The Settlers, then after a few seconds, it closes.
no error message, nothing. the program has completely stopped.

if i run autorun.exe from the CD, i get the bigger image with buttons for Reinstall, Single Player, Multi Player and so on. Clicking Single Player displays the same The Settlers image as above, and again this disappears after a few seconds.

does anyone know what's wrong?

i've been playing settlers for years and completed probably every mission (single player), but never played online yet - i really want to get online and also get some practise in for S5 ............ any help will be much appreciated!!

you realy souldunt have any problems running s4 on XP ihave done it for 2 years without any

did you install the game to the defaoult folder?? (thats :/C) there are known problems when the game has been istaled elsewhere..
next thing is the memory.have you got enough of it?? for XP you will need a minumun of 250mgs.
one thing you need to check is the voideo card and make sure the antialising is turned off..
by defoult XP will have your card running in true colour, thats 32 bits, settlers cant handle that much, turn it doun to 16 bits..

good luck

the only thing from s4 that doesnt work for me in 32-bits is the map editor, and the reason that most P4 w/ HyperThreading processors crash S4 is because it tells XP that there's two processors (which is really annoying if you have a 2-processor motherboard, as the normal version of xp only allows for 2 processors, but with 2 HT P4's it thinks you've got 4 :S)
anyway, it seems S4 was programmed to take advantage of 2 processors, but there's some screw-up in the driver, that makes the second processor different. turning on compatibility makes there only 1 processor, and AFAIK it works.

but then for this problem, it doesn't seem to be related to that.
from what i can tell, this is a windows xp bug. you need to go to Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and download the patch related to "safedisc" or "game crashes after displaying video intro".
also, as penny suggested its a good idea to have the latest patch for the game.

Reason that i typed what i did was because i just reinstalled s4 on 2 computers with xp. They were fully patched and i couldnt get the game started. As soon as i clicked on starting the game it gave a fatal error. I have since then helped 2 others with the same problem. Had to change compatibility to win 98 to get the game to start. I never had this problem before, but this time it was impossible to get the game to start on both computers.

hi, i just got settlers 4 and had the same problem, threw up some sort of error when loading.

LOG FILE:

S4_Main.exe (time stamp 0x3f8be5bb) caused an integer divide by zero exception in
module S4_Main.exe (time stamp 0x3f8be5bb, base address 0x00400000) at 001b:004e33f6.

Switched it to Win98 like you people have said and it now works http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif They should really release a new patch for settlers with this in
