I was wondering if someone could help me out on this one. I've been playing games on my PC for about 3 or 4 years, prior was a console guy, PSX to be specific. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif Now since I have joined the force and stepped out from the darkside, I really hadn't had a decent system to run the games to their fullest potential until recently.

So basically I wanted to know some specifics on things like AA and whatnot so I can understand what would be the best setup for my system. Be it that you just tell me what the absolute best configs would be and I can just relate through that or recommend settings if you have a similar setup too. Now that I'm playing the visual eye candy that is Pandora Tomorrow and FarCry, I want it to look as good as possible without being laggy as hell. Thx.

AMD Athlon 2700
ATI AIW 9600XT
256MB Kingston DDR400 512MB Kingston DDR333
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

Ok, AA won't work with this game, there is a problem with it. You do have one system problem, your ram. If you keep those two different speeds, then everything will run bad, it can only go as fast as the slowest. I'd get DDR400 asap in both slots.

Now, for resolutions on both of those games, I recommend 1024x768. That's as high as I'd go with that card/processor/ram combo. With that resolution, set everything to high.

Now, video card settings. Go into your video card properties and do this:
Set the lower sliders to high quality, high quality, always on, and app preference. In your smoothvision settings, set app pref. and 8x.

Those are the best settings for your card.

Thanks, I knew about the ram. It was just that I bought them at separate times and couldn't do much about it at the time. I'm probably going to eventually get 2 x 512mb of the kingston hyperX to run them as dual channel and stick the 256 in the other slot and get rid of the 333. I've just had a lot of other stuff that needed attending to first, i.e. new soundcard and new speakers next. Gunna get the logitech z-680. But as far as in game settings for PT and/or FarCry, my system should be able to handle high settings correct? I mean it's already hot as hell out and I wouldn't want my card to burn out or anything.

It should be able to handle it on high if your resolution is 1024x768...I use 1280x1024 and my computer even has major slow downs many times, so I know your card couldn't handle it at that setting.

Thanks for the suggestions gnogtr. I changed the settings and everything looks great. A lot of the textures in Farcry are much crisper. But thanks again.
