Just to update all. I emailed UBISoft on Sunday and advised them of my situation. They responded today with the following:

Cameron,
We have heard the same reports, but have not been able to substantiate the claims. While it may be true that a few users have had problems with their monitors after playing Raven Shield, I think there may have been pre-existing problems with their old monitors that may be to blame. Please make sure that you have the latest drivers (.inf update) for your monitor installed from the manufacturers website and that you are within the optimal refresh rate settings of the monitor. You will also want to make sure that you have the latest video card drivers installed.

I have advised them to check this forum for more accounts of the events. BTW, I checked all of these items and they are all OK, up to date, and working just fine. That just leaves the game.
FYI
Regards.
Yes The_Mountie, there are others that have had new or relatively new displays, properly configured Windows installations -- the whole nine yards detailed elsewhere in this thread.
My post above details the damage issue, but resolution hangs like you experience are another issue caused by the games resolution and refresh rate hammering that your display just can't keep up with.
Due to the number of times RS will switch/hammer resolution and refresh in the course of a game, other issues, and the fragility of fly-back transformers, I would personally strongly urge anyone that is going to play the game on a CRT that's concerned for the life-span of their display to play RS in a 'windowed mode' to avoid the aforesaid issues and risks.

I bet they been trying really hard to substantiate the claims too, lets face it this bug is as clear as day, and effects many people to varying degrees.
Itâ's all just poor excuses and shocking lack of customer support.
Oh and Schooo brush the dust off that CD before you burn it in anger, burning dust can smell quite nasty.
(I love the smell of burning RVS CD's in the morning though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Can anyone tell me for sure that this effects LCDs and laptop LCDs as well? Os is it just CRT monitors?

How come not LCD?

They work completley differently internally.
When I used my CRT when the game first came out I experienced the flickering back and forth durring the res changes. I went to my LCD and smooth as butter. I wasn't afraid for my monitor, just wanted more desk space. Now I'm back to using my CRT and again, smooth as butter. I don't know if one of the patches fixed it or maybe the newer drivers for my vid card but no problems here.

Well, your post inspired me to give it another go. Installed rvs and patched to the latest version. Crossed my fingers and fired it up....
Still hammered the heck outa my monitor.
Oh well

Try using drivers that is made for the monitor instead of plug&play monitors. If I use plug&play I don't get the same refresh rate capabilities as with Microsoft plug&play drivers for monitor.
Also try changing your monitors DCC settings.

In ATI Control Panel there is an option to use DCC information or not.
DCC is a way of communitcation between the OS and the monitor so it doesn't set any refresh rates and/or resolutions it can't handle.
Some ppl have to set DCC to disabled to get the most out od their monitor, but I suspect that is if the use the plug&play drivers from Microsoft. I have no problems when using DCC with my monitor drivers.
Sometimes when you install new drivers for your video card it will reinstall the plug&play drivers for the monitor automaticlly, so make sure you are using them after upgrading video drivers.
In DCC options you can set DCC enabled and Refresh Rate Override to : Disabled, Same as Desktop or at a refresh rate e.g. 85Hz.
If DCC is disabled you can set MAX resolution and refresh rate manually.
The DCC option is in the Tab called Displays in the Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced Tab.
If I set my Windows settings and RvS settings as mentioned in here (Post Game Fixes Here!! thread) (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=327106611&m=702100142&r=509101542#509101542) I don't get the problem anymore or very seldom get the problem where it tries to set resolution, but goes into 640x480, but is easily fixed by pressing ESC, Options and ESC again.
Further info on DCC @ ATI Catalyst Tweak Guide (http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html). Is worth reading even if you use Nvidia settings are similar.
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> This box shows the DDC (Display Data Channel) information for your monitor. DDC is a method by which your monitor communicates its properties to your graphics card, so that they both work within the physical limits of the monitor. This prevents damage from things like 'out of frequency' errors, whereby the graphics card attempts to use a higher resolution and/or refresh rate than the monitor can handle.
If you don't see any DDC Information displayed, make sure the 'Use DDC Information' button is ticked under the Monitor Attributes section below. If this option is unavailable, or cannot be ticked, then your monitor is fairly old and does not support DDC. In that case, be extremely careful since monitors which do not support DDC can be damaged by the user selecting too high a frequency/resolution. Read your monitor's manual (or search for it online), and manually set the 'Maximum Resolution' and 'Maximum Refresh' options to the correct values to prevent damage to your monitor.
Refresh Rate Override: This setting is covered under the Tidying Up section above. You should only enable this setting if your monitor supports DDC, and you are not using a refresh rate fix already. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Also doing a proper cleanup of video drivers BEFORE installing new is a good idea, here's how:
<LI> Uninstall drivers in Windows Control Panel, the drivers and the control panel(ATI only) for these, sometimes they are seperate.
<LI> Reboot into Safe Mode.
<LI> Use Driver Cleaner + Cab Cleaner @ DriverHeaven.net (http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner) tool to remove all references and files drivers left. You can use other cleaners too.
<LI> Reboot.
<LI> Install drivers of your choice.

I didn't realize the game would cause such serious problems to hardware. I'll bet it has shortened the life of my Samsung 955DF now that you mention it...

I'm not saying if this was what killed you monitor but sometimes ppl read about symptons and then they think they have the same problem.
Often when ppl have the resolution change problem is because they aren't using their monitor drivers and haven't set refresh rate in the game properly I think, but it can be very different from system to system and what I expierence on my system might be different from others.
The settings I suggest in "Tweaking Raven Shield" or "Post Game Fixes Here!!" regarding vsynch & refresh rate often cures the problem, and not to mention properly configured DCC settings as mention above and monitor drivers from your manufacturers website.

Gunny I do know how to set up my Monitor and I am using the Drivers and I dont have DCC on(tho it would match up fine if I did) and Since Moving to Norway I now have a Netlup ProDisma 19"(Daytek) which suffers from this same bug.My Phillips 107T I had in Canada did not nor does my Wifes Tandberg(Panasonic)
Now having said that I have been meaning to test a theory I have on this is that by editing the Veiwport Res to match my Game Res as it IS this Resolution Change that causes this Nasty Flipping.
If I decide to follow a Friend thru the Ubi.com Game Service(Which I will rarely do) it will literally "Click-Clack" for 30 seconds or more and I just turn it off because I KNOW this isnt good for it tho the 4 "Click-Clacks" at startup do Concern me a bit.
This is not Imaginary Problem and it has nothing to do with bad setup it is Truly in the Game itself this Problem lies.
Thankfully my Monitor has survived...for now
I will test my View Port Res Theory and Update

Okay so matching the Viewport Res to in Game Res does nothing. I basically run 1 Res all the time 1024x768@85hz(tho I could run 1024x768@100Hz) so technically I am not really changing Res at all.
SO I will have to say that is most Definitely has to do with the way RvS handles Transitons from 2D to 3D no other answer
and yes it ONLY happens in RvS as far as Games go http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Gunny, thanks for the info about the DDS settings. Admittedly, I had no idea they existed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif However, it only partially solved my graphics switching problem. What I found that works for me, 100% of the time, is to set my desktop resolution to the resolution at which I intend to play Raven Shield. So, I have my desktop set to 1600X1200, which is fine for me with a 21" monitor, but maybe people with smaller monitors might have difficulty with getting the highest graphical splendor out of it (and it IS VERY IMPRESSIVE...no sarcasm, I LOVE the graphics in this game) without going through annoying restarts of a mission. It looks to me like there is a problem with Raven Shield of some type, I hope UBI will consider addressing it. Like I said, I found an acceptable work-around, but I have a pretty hot system compared to the average guy, who is the majority, spending his hard-earned cash on this game. Just a friendly "me too". http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

my samsung montitor had some issues early on like i would get a black screen with a white blip in it for several minutes then about half the time rvs would load and the other half it would crash. Now i just have about a 10 sec wait on the black screen then rvs is fine. This did only happen with rvs though im not saying its the game just that ive had similar problems. If problems continue hammers usually help the computer understand. If the hammer doesnt work get a bigger hammer.

Looks like this thread simply died in 2004. But it's now 2006, I'm trying to play Ravenshield (older version) and this error is at large. Was this problem ever patch-fixed or anything like that?
