The best thing I like about chess is the idea of chess. I like chess. That is not to say I'm a smart chess player. Most anyone who plays me will probably with me win the chess game. I'm not ******ed though I admit I'm ******ed on the chess level of winning the chess game. I have Fritz 8. What I've always wanted in a pc chess game is to have many hundreds of preprogrammed games already in the game and just watch the computer play the game. That would be the best learning tool for me. I'm ******ed with chess. When I need to make move by move plays before the game is done I'm make ******ed decisions. I haven't involved myself with Chessmaster yet on any computer. This computer will play Chessmaster 10 so I will purchase the game. On a unrelated topic here, at least I hope it is unrelated to Chessmaster 10, I do not like progressive strategy. If I know in advance the game is progressive I will not buy the game. My thought is I bought the game so give me access to anywhere on the game whenever. When a game is progressive it makes you play a sequence over and over to advance and or takes up all your time to finish a game. Whatever the motive is with programmers forcing players into progressive, such as monetary or delusional programming thinking, it is wrong. Progressive forces people to think what they are doing with the game is necessary for fun.

If I get this right then you are against the game if it forces the player to go from the start to get to the end.
I dont know how it will be in Chessmaster 10th Edition but I am sure you can still choose whatever tutorial you want to in whatever order you want to.
There might be something with progressive play in the tournament feature (this is just speculation) where you need to finish one tournament to get access to the other ones. Or perhaps must have a rating of x to enter one.
In the online part there is a little of this as well. Though it is quite nessesary though. For example you will need to have played 100 rated online games in order to make a clan. Though wihtout this every new player who would visit the online feature would create a clan. So in the end there would be one clan for each member. The same goes for making tournaments and ladders. And again it's ok, because who would like to have a player creating a tournament then not showing up when it is being played. And that only because he didn't like it.
I think I'm getting on a sidestep now but all in all you shouldn't worry too much about progressive play, because it isn't really there (that is in the demo, the full version should be quite the same I think) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
