i'd like someones opinion on my system spec
when playing farcry at 1024x768 the fps are around 25-30
which i can deal with but its nothing special.

however when entering buildings; i presume its the lighting and textures that slow it down to often aroun 16fps which is unplayable!

currently i am playing in 800x600 and averaging about 50fps on medium settings (auto detect) which is fine.

i bought 512mb ddr 2700 ram today, and havn't used it yet. but i'm hoping it will make a difference!

opinions please....?

Multivision Ionix
AthlonXP 2500+ (1.84ghz)
512mb DDR ram (soon to be 1024!)
120gb 7200rpm Baracuda HD

(Aparently a very overclockable machine, i am yet to find out...)

yeah, overclok that 2500 to a 3200+ â¡â¡â¡ the 2500+ are legendary overclokers proc, easly to overclock them to a 3200+ ..., and also, with the new extra ram..

i really thing that if u overclok the 2500 to a 3200+ , with the extra ram, u ll be able to play at LEAST with a mixture of hig and medium settings at 1024x768 (maybe everithing at hig, but u ll have to try it ^^ ) far cry is a lot of cpu dependat, thats why overcloking the cpu ll help u a lot..

1gb of ram makes such a difference!

the readme says steer clear of overclocking, but what the heck.

You are right about it being the lighting slowing things down indoors, you will notice the drops on any lighting setting other than 'low'.
I don't think overclocking you're CPU will help much indoors as i would've thought it's the T+L on the GPU doing the crazy lighting effects?
It should help in other areas though.

Indoors brings my 9800pro to it's knees, more so than huge outdoor sections. I hope it's a case of it not being fully optimized, because it looks incredible, it's just a shame it comes with such a high performance penalty.

FC doesn't seem like O/C CPU as it would crash once in a while for no reason even with CPU OC just a little bit... Weird.... But OC vid card all you want as it seems to help too....

I have R9600 Pro, and running everything on highest setting, except AA and FSAA which I turn them off completely.... @ 1024x768, it's playable, but like you mentioned, nothing specialy or spectacular.... Some where between 30 - 45 outside, and 20 - 25 indoor... Sometimes dip down to high 10's with flashlight turn on as well....

i had just a week ago this computer with a 2200+ @ 1950 ghz , and i was just able to play with a mixture of hig//med at 1024x768, and with low fps (20-40) now i have a p5 2,8 @ 3,4 ghz , and i play the game with everithing at higgest with fps betwin 40-70 (sometimes up to 90, other , in biggg battles, down to 35...) and the only thing i have changed is the cpu, and its right now overcloked, co believe me, farcry depends a lot of the cpu, and u ll only get problems if u overclock too much (but, then u get problems in far cry, in halo, in ut2k4, in 3dmark...) but, with the 2500+, there is no problem, u can overclok it to a 3200+ with stock colling WITHOUT any problems... and that ll help a LOT the game

Interesting... I OCed my XP2500+ up to 3200+, and FC was the only game that's crashing... Though it only crashes once in a blue moon... Maybe I need to look else where as it might be something else that's crashing the game???

often without anti aliasing a game can look ****e

but farcry is so detailed anyway, turning it off alltogether improves fps dramatically (for not much loss of quality.)

...so i've managed to squeeze a bit more juice out!

average about 50+ fps at 1024x768
no anti aliasing at all high settings
and custom water. no oc.

cheers folks
