Athena Sword Delay
The community has spoken and we've listened.
In keeping with our dedication to create excellent products, the mission pack for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Athena Sword, will now be releasing in Q1 2004. The later release will allow us to deliver the quality product we know our fans expect.
-- Geiger out...
HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT THE FANS EXPECT......
Its to do with the competition out there....
NOVALOGIC - Joint OPS out then so you wish to release it at same time. Why am i so right about this then I will tell you.
You did the same trick when BHD was about to be released. BHD was put back and then UBI did the exact same. Seems after all the hassle the SO CALLED FANS went through regarding all the problems you gave us with RVS you now starting to show the same with ATHENA SWORD. I know there will be some funny replies to this post but I am saying this because at end of day the last thing UBI will do is to admit to holding back on products for the sake of commercial challenge of other software companys. BUT use the fans as an excuse to delayt your product is very poor on your part.

Hey, Ubi had a window of opportunity for my cash with their original release date. Now playing Call of Duty and XCP clan has done the same (or will be within a week). That's 12 AS sales, customers gone in two days after Cod was released and more to come.
Invisible War (Deus Ex II) is out next. And on and on.
The Heavy hitters are coming out now and RVS Athena has been benched and it will probably be sent to the minors never to be heard from again. Something like UBI's anouncements/support here.

your theory makes no sense. Why would they hold it until a competitor is on the shelf? It would make more sense to rush it out so that it is alone with no compitition going by your release theory.

You realize that this makes no logical or business sense whatsoever, right? No business wants to compete with anyone else. They want to the consumers to themselves. If they are able to put out a product before a competitor, they will move heaven and earth to do so. This way they have an unchallenged selling opportunity.

Which was my original point--the window has passed- there was really nothing (major FPS) to compete with if they had keep to their original date. Now I am in no rush to get it.
Hopefully it will fix everything when it does come out. And at an add-on price too ( less than 20.00 bucks). Then I will add it back to my purchase list.

How does waiting until another game is released help boost sales? You didnt once tell us that, you just said what theyre doing. We all know when the game was released, thank you for reminding us. Then all you did was talk about the admins and said you wanted to talk to someone qualified for business...
But yet you still didnt state how this helps out their sales...

I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and I minored in Business Administration at the University of Iowa, Nemesis. I also work for an energy startup in Boston as the Chief Information Officer and helped secure Series A investments from a large Electric Utility company in this crappy economy. Yeah, I have a semi-clue about business.

Im with DayGlow on this one. Good strategy is to get your product out before the competition.

Wow, let your competitor sell his product for a month or so without competition on the shelf. Meanwhile back the development studios you brace yourself take a loss because a couple extra months expenses are adding up, and you've got a development team to pay while a couple months of no product aren't exactly helping you pay the bills. Yeah! Sounds like a brilliant idea! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
They might not release the game on time because it's not ready and to be honest is a buggy POS that will probably never be ready, but delaying a finished product so that a competitor gets a signifigant head start? Not likely.

Then why don't you know it's better to release ahead of your competitors? Intel and AMD are playing this game every single day. They always rush their products to get them out whether they're ready or not. Why would Ubi want to release an aging product to compete with a product using newer technology?
You're not a very good businessjerk are you?

Hmm...I think if ubi plays this strategically then they really could pull of more customers from COD... the thing is, if UBI released it early, COD & others would snatch all of AS's sales - people are saving up for COD or other games. Pushing the game back is actually probably a good idea in an economical standpoint. Coz the thing is, if you got TWO games that you desire and you only choose one you won't really get the other one (psychology).

It's a rainbow game, i will wait however long it takes to play a new one. All other games are just fodder till AS comes out. will play and beat COD, then in the garbage it goes. This series is where its at.
My ladder stats. Plain and simple, Ubi doesn't want to release an expansion of a year-old game at the same time 2 or 3 full-size BRAND NEW games come out from competitors. The new games would sell first, and AS would just be collecting dust and dropping price because demand is low. Ubi is releasing AS later because by then, everyone should be into and maybe bored of COD and halo and all them, and would be looking for something else. You think they are just sitting on their hands about this? I'm sure they are testing the he|| out of the game to make sure there aren't any bugs, making the reviews as good as possible and having all the clancy fans come running for this gem of a game. blah blah blah, his theory was right in one sense, but wrong overall.
P.S. I'm a 4.0 average BA and ACCT major at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, a highly accredited business college, currently president of UAF's Associated Students of Business, and treasurer of the Great Alaska Accounting People. Dont make fun of the second name, it is supposed to coincide with the acronym for "generally approved accounting principles", GAAP.

Are you sure about this part? I'm sure they'll make some effort to make it bug free, but, they've got other games to work on, full games, which stand to bring in more money. Will they use their customers to do their bug testing? Suddenly releasing news of a 4 month delay would make some people believe that Ubi's revamping the entire game to bring us the quality product we expect. I guess we'll find out when the game's released.

I'll buy Athena Sword AND Joint Operations AND Halo AND UT2K4. You know why? WWII ended 58 years ago. I'm not interested in CoD at all. Battlefield 1942, eh. MOH series. WFE. I like many of us, have the attention span of a gnat, and like to have many diffrent games to play. Ilove RvS and play online for 8 hours at a time, but I need a change, so I go to something else. The competition is for repeat business, not just one time shot sells. Thats why expansion packs exist in the first place.
