In my opinion the best card you can get right now is the ATI 9800XT. If you are planing on buying an expensive card soon I would tell you to wait. Early next year they are supposed to be releasing the new PCI Express cards. Came across an article on www.google.com (http://www.google.com) where ATI said that their 1st PCI Express card will be twice as fast as the current 9800 Pro 128MB.

PCI Express looks to be great but i would hold off an switching to PCI Express right away.

Let it settle first.

I mean, wait for the first gen PCI EXPRESS to pass and jump in onb the next gen.

The first cards may be fast but the first gen isnt always the best. If you want to go ahead and replace ur motherboard and get a new card for PCI EXRESS go for it, but i would prefer to save my money and see what people say and how it operates before using it.

As good as PCI EXPRESS sounds, nothing is always as it seems.

True that ReLapse but it seems that once the PCI Express becomes mainstream that you will have to search for an AGP card. Like now you have to look hard to find a decent PCI card. Also they are supposed to be supplying the new boards with the PCI Express to AGP converter. Don't know how much of this is true, only know what I've read on websites. Also those "leaked" drivers on guru3d are actually Evga's build of the drivers that fix problems with the drivers that Nvidia didn't fix. Example, when I play DC with the 52.16 drivers the terrain disappears, but with the 53.03 they fixed that. Also those $2000 dollar cards are the ones that Hollywood and drafters use. Think they are called the Nvidia Quadro and ATI FireGL. You seen that show on Discovery Channel recently, the Extreme Martial Arts, where they show the physics of the human body? Anyway they used the Quadro to do that, think they also used the Quadro do the special effects for the last 2 Matrix movies.

I dont see PCI EXPRESS becoming mainstream or the normal form of gfx card format very soon.

AGP will run for a while, hey who knows PCI EXPRESS may turn out to a bad idea and go nowhere when it comes to gfx cards.

I will wait til more companies offer PCI EXPRESS motherboards at a lower price.

The first problem i see if PCI EXPRESS interacting with older games. I believe that will cause enough trouble at first to turn alot of users away.

FX5900 with the price should give you 150-180 in this game, on moderate res and high detail. ATI is the way to go for the money, they don't have the same issues with drivers anymore, but I would go with 3.7 anyway. As for the PCI express, just because a new technology is coming out, doesn't mean it's going to bump the old ways out of the block, just that AGP will become low end, just like PCI graphics cards are today. First generation hardware isn't bad because of being first gen, it's bad because the software is not up to speed with it and doesnt fully utilize it yet. Take the P4 for example: the first gen P4 had a faster clock speed, but performed slower than the P3, because software didn't utilize it. Once the software adapted, the P4 took off, and those old problems are non-existent. That is the same issue with the new AMD FX-51 chip. People still think that the P4 is better because of benchmarks, but I say no. Once 64 bit software is developed, the FX-51's true potential will be realized.
