Smoke grenades WERE going to be in the original gr but they took them out because the maps are so big and wide open.

Smokers would be useless in the Caves map, but could come in handy in the Embassy map (when crossing a hotly contested alley, etc).

They have their place, it just depends on the map...

If you had an MP game with nade spam, SAWs and smokers all at once the server would be so overworked it would melt. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I'm not sure why support and spam lag GR, but it shouldn't. As long as the host is reasonably fast, like over 1 GHz, and geforce 3 card, these things should make no lag at all. Firing a bullet is a small bit of data, a few lines of data,
-bullet fired (M249)
-fired from (coordinates)
-fired at angle (angle)
-landed at coordinated (coordinates)

So you have like a byte of data per bullet, or per nade, ect. On a 384k DSL connection, you should be able to host at least 30 ppl doing this. I don't know why GR lags, but it's gotta be in the netcode. Hopefully they do a more efficient design with GR2, as lag is a major factor in judging a game. If GR2 has a reputaion like: "OMG I can play this game with 40 people on M60's and there was no lag at all, it's crazy!" people are gonna want to guy GR2 even more.

If Air Strikes are part of MP Co-Op Missions (not talking about team-based MP) can you imagine the lag caused by that?

it would be nothing more than fancy graphics and a few hundred bytes of code sent to each client.

I'm not a techie, so to speak, but I've seen GR being played with dial-up users, and that's gotta say something *good* about their netcode, doesn't it?

I haven't played it online, but I've heard the smoke bombs in RvS will bring most gaming servers to it's knees...

I have laid witness to several grenades causing lag on some gaming servers in GR1, so I agree with Cob that servers would melt...

Smoke grenades + thermal imaging goggles are a classically lethal combination. Plus, smokers could help counteract spawn killing by providing temporary cover until a more proper cover could be found.

Smoke grenades should definately be in. They would add another widely-used, real world component to the game. And they'd come in real handy if the devs added more types of objective-based team game modes to GR 2.

It would also be nice to have some smoke cans for the single player campaign. Where you can use them to help advance your squad through the streets of those pesky urban maps. Where enemy snipers are lurking in the strangest places and your team tends to round corners directly into .50 cal nests and rogue tanks.

I doubt green berets go around throwing smokes to conceal themselves, if anything they use colored smoke for extraction. Multiplayer would be a disaster if people threw down smokes at every choke point and crossing. Think of those RVS co op games where everyone is throwing smokes down. Not fun...

YaY for smokes! .. MP would greatly benifit from smokes .. they would be especially important in matches

who said that AAO chokes on smoke??????? ITS A BIG LIE! .. honestly i think that AAO has the best smokes ever .. they arent lagging at all (unlike RvS) .. and the effect looks great
