I lost my hard drive and replaced it, now that my comp is back up and running I have tried so many things to get my game to work.. but I keep getting this error

OS: Windows 98 4.10 (Build: 67766446)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 803 MHz with 319MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (4523)

Assertion failed: RenDev [Filehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif:\Data Manager\Version\Local\WinDrv\Src\WinViewport.cpp] [Line: 471]

History: UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine

what do I do? it was working fine on the old hard drive.

the other thing that puzzles me is that I dont have a D: drive

Who replaced your hard drive?

Chances are your old hard drive was partitioned - which is done when the hard drive is first formatted prior to installing the OS (Windows 98 in your case).

It's not really needed.

As for your RvS crashing - try uninstalling it....delete the folder it was installed in, then reinstall it. Apply the patch 1.0 to 1.4 and then Punkbuster.

Hope it works.

I changed my hardrdrive and partitiond it when I did the format. I have tried the uninstall and reinstall 7 times. all different ways. I need to know the next step.

you know, I got that right now when i was tweaking my system .ini. Try reinstalling the game, and see if that works. if that is what you were doing, then why did you come up with a story, unless you were doing something you shouldn't have? Anyway, just reinstall the game and whatever mappacks you have, it should work fine.

your D: drive is your second partition of the hard drive. Here goes:
A: floppy
B: second floppy or ZIP
C: System Drive
D: HD partition
E: and up: any other hard drives, partitions, optical drives, or network drives not physically in your computer case.
it goes all the way to Z:, and you can specify everything from D: and up as whatever drive you want. If you want your CDrom to be your Q: drive, go ahead.
I have an A: zip, C:, D:, E:, F:, and G: hard drives, H: I: and J: optical drives, K: drive when I plug my MP3 players in, and X:, Y:, and Z:, network drives. "My Computer" is something to behold when I open it up.

That sounds an aweful lot like a sound, video, or chipset driver problem or a DirectX problem.

Check to make sure you've installed all of the latest updates for all of those for your respective cards.

i actually was getting that error after putzing around with my DARE audio settings, to make them less of a resource hog, I had to use my saved DARE file after I couldn't start the game up. Whatever, as long as it worked for you.

what happend was ia changed my hard drive from a 20G Fujitsu to a 80G Maxtor. after loading the OS and installing the game I was recieving the error

OS: Windows 98 4.10 (Build: 67766446)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 803 MHz with 319MB RAM

The problem was in the drivers that I had to download from the Nvidia site for my video card. the new drivers just released didnot work with my computer/vidcard, so I dloaded older drivers and my problem was solved
