lol. The sound way is the "correct" way to do it - certainly easier. The sounds you hear are the same as in the Fortress Rotation Simulator in Achenar's room on the Mechanical Age. This is the only part of the game where there is a dependence on another age to solve a puzzle, which is a bit annoying.

The high-pitched "ping" sound is North. The low-pitched "bong" sound is South. The high-pitched "whirr" sound is West. The low-pitched "whirr" sound is East. Hope that helps. If you hear 2 sounds together, such as North and East sounds together, that is North-East.
If you go the wrong way, you wont hear a sound. Click backtrack.

HOWEVER if you are playing Masterpiece, I have found some bugs. (I hate Masterpiece - they upgraded the graphics and added in about 5 new game-stopping bugs). Sometimes if you go the wrong way, it will play a sound (which it shouldnt). If you go the way a sound tells you and then dont hear a sound, then that sound was a bug. Click backtrack TWICE to get on track.

Now if it makes u feel any better, I made a map the first time as well http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah! Let's here it for us amateur cartographers! I mapped it as well my 1st time through. Wasn't fun as I recall. The really curvy bits threw me off. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I just use a list of directions I made whenever I want to run through it nowadays. The sound method was totally lost on me when I played it the first time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Thanks for the "how to" using the sounds, E_M_S! I never noticed the relationship between the Rotation Simulator and the Mazerunner... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

I also did the "Cartographer's Guild" method. Noted all the sounds and directions at each intersection, until I ran out of places to go. Took up a whole sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Boy was that fun. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif I'm not sure I want to do that again with RealMyst. I hear the path changes with each install. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Heh -- the first time I went into the maze, I pulled out some paper and began dutifully mapping (I played a lot of text adventure games in my youth). After a little while, I began to notice that every time I heard certain sounds I was writing down the same direction...http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Actually, you don't have to rely on information obtained in another age to identify the meaning of each sound, as an earlier post suggested. One of the buttons on the Mazerunner control panel will play the sound associated with the direction the Mazerunner is currently facing. Just use this function first and take notes before moving into the Maze.
