Are we talking Xbox Live or PC? If we are talking Xbox Live, either do ranked games only with other 1st and 2nd level players or do free games with anyone. Also, go to the tutorial and do Visit a Map as a Spy and Merc and practice using all your equipment in different ways around the map.

You're the second guy to post about this today. There are some scary-good players out there but if you really, really know the maps, can navigate without enhanced vision modes, can distract and above all travel along non-merc pathways, you stand a good chance of taking a ND or two. Work those maps offline! In Schermerhorn, for example, learn the underground ducts and how to disable the cams. This is the kind of thing that can get you the initiative, and that's what it's all about for spies; initiative.

well I am getting somewhere as a merc by now. I just suck as a spy because for some reason I cant get behind someone quick enough to grab him. oh well more practice for me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

you rarely need to grab a merc in most maps if you're a good spy. It's better to decontaminate the ND133's without having "close encounter" with the mercs

Lambert: Holly Christ, Sam, what are you doing in stavpal's yard?
Sam: oh, i thought this was the place they had hidden the NNDX-1335.
Lambert: get out of there! Next time I'm putting you up for psych evaluation.

Well first things first, you cant really expect "pros" to play worse because you cannot play as good as them. That takes the fun away from them, instead you should just learn the maps. Go into tutorial and visit map. Play all maps solo as a spy for maybe 1 hour on each, run around like a fool, fall, die, crawl. Learn the map like you know the way to your kitchen. Meaning you should be able to be blindfoldedly running around the map, shooting at motion detectors, cameras etc and fullfilling your objective. Its not so hard, once you know the map you basically know 50% of the game, now you just need to learn how to play spy and merc properly. And the only way to improve yourself is to challenge yourself, if you play people worse than you, you will end up getting worse than you are. If you play people better, you will get better. However if you play people that like to play Spy Deathmatch and keep using "lame"(with lack of a better term) tactics to neutrialize you, such as the SS-Sticky cam tactics which I disagree with. Then thats not skill cause that is the easiest and cheapest way to neutrialize a merc, there is no way out of it if done properly. So keep playing and sooner or later youll be a shadow and the mercs will be christmas trees.

Just start a game titled "beginners only" or "n00bs".
People who have been playing for a while will avoid it. The 'pros' dislike playing against you nearly as much as you dislike playing against them.

thats not true. most "pros" are stat *****s so a game entitled n00bs would draw there attention for easy points.

you should be learning from your mistakes. getting owned is how you learn. figure out what they're doing and copy the "pros". you don't learn by getting kills. you learn by getting killed. if you're a noob and getting kills, then obviously the guy you just killed is more of a noob and has nothing to show you. understand the "spirt" of the game and try to comply. like spies are supposed to be sneaky but to be sneaky you need to know the maps. mercs are supposed to cover the objectives but to do that they need to know where the spies are going to be and how to use their gadgets. learn the maps, learn the gadgets, learn how to detect spies and mercs, learn the patterns of typical spies and mercs. if you can't do this, this game may be a little too complicated for you right now.

For awhile actually I would call my server "no newbies." But no one ever listened so I gave up on it.
It's not that hard to get good at the game. It's not like counter-strike where it depends solely on your reaction time and good aim. It depends more on strategy. Just work on your strategy...

lol
this game isnt about killing. its about whether or not you can fulfill your objective or not.
Personally, I dont kill spies as soon as I see them. The reason being is that I scare them away, which is far better then killing them and letting them have only 10 seconds off any getting all the equipment back. I once wasted 8 minutes of a spies time purely because I didnt kill him.

i disagree with mercs not killing spies, because sure u waste their time letting them run away, but in tht time u could have killing him 3 more time and be enjoying ure go at spy

Why do noobs think they'll get better playing with other noobs? Everything I learned in SC: PT I learned from getting my *** kicked. The countless games slaughtering less experienced players taught me very little.

Technically not true. A good spy will learn from what he did wrong first time and try to approach a new technique to get the objective. Killing the spy would give just give the player a chance to start from scratch agian. Although you do raise a good point if againts n00b players. Maybe a mix of the two methods against 1337 players may work, as not only they have less time to come up with a plan, that less time will make then rush and rushing, leads to failure http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ruzhy, you have no right calling your server "no noobs", biggest contradiction ever.. You are a whining, noob *** bltch.
But anyway.. To the first poster, the first thing you need to know, is the map. knowing the map is 50% the victory.. you need to have a good partner that you play with regurlarly, and finaly, you need to familiarize yourself with certain tactics that you do in certain maps.
Think of the game like a strategy game, if you play a strat. game (C&C Generals) for example, and you run around building units any where you want, you WILL be owned by your oponent who is using strategy. As a spy, you need to have a step 1 and 2 before you go out and play because not having one will just put a bullet into your head.

krujin_1 can i ask how many decent spies u've played? i can count mine on 1 hand, hardly anyone changes their tactic to hide beter from merc (in fact hardly anyone walks slowly or takes a vison mode off)

theres always a stage which all gamers have to go through called the "stop whining and watch" phase... theres a hundred and one ways to get good at this game... u could either watch videos or demos which have been recorded by pros, to learn the pathways and some tactics... or u could just learn the maps... or u could just go into spectator mode during a match and just see how some of the pros do their stuff... every noob has to go thru this process... over time, ure bound to get better,... its just a pity taht most noobs give up too soon...

lol, i remember you. You and you friend did nothing but the SS+cam tactic when I played in your server. "OH NOEZ! THE MERC GUN IS TOO STRONG FOR ME AND I SUCK *** AT STEALTH http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif, Better us nothing but the ss+cam tactic!" (That is you in case you are too freakin stupid to understand, which would not surprise me) Haha, if that's not newby I don't know what is. You are the reason my server was called "no n00bs." If you ever want to play a game with out the ss+cam tactic I would be happy to own you.

LOL, dude, anytime any day. brng any partner you want, your homosexual sex partner, your mothers uncle, whoever.. I will own you up and down the map like tyson did in his prime.
Dont forget who won that game.. its 2:0, *****. SS+cam aint even PART of the reason why you lost like a *****.

Does ss+cam actually work in the PC version?
On the Xbox, at least, avoid the cam after the ss is easy pie.
samilyayevdryic
04-23-2004, 11:52 AM
SS+cam is avoidable, unfortuntly some noobs like to whine because they dont have a clue how to avoid it.
If you get a good cam position its hard to do it, but 75% of the time the position is avoidable becuse it isnt put in a certain place.
learn ruhzy, then complain.

I actually had a chance (played against some noobs) to try ss+cam today and it does work like a charm if the silly merc stands still and lets it happen. I couldn't believe it. Shock 'em, gas 'em, and when they recover from the shock they just stand there and take. And almost every time I did it there was plenty of room for the merc to move out of the gas.
Great anti-noob strategy, I guess.

Many people, including myself, have complained on this forum that this SpyWorld site requires you to download DivX to play the SCPT MP videos. The DivX install puts AdWare on your PC. It actually corrupted my Norton Internet Security and I had to follow a very complicated install/reinstall process from Symantec. Do not download and install DivX on your PC.

Well said. There exists a countermeasure for every supposedly dirty trick in the book. I firmly believe that everyone should play the game the way they want to, even if it is spawn camping, going purely for Merc kills rather than the ND133s, or whatever. SCPT MP pits you and your teammate against human intelligence and ingenuity, not predictable shooting gallery AI (SCPT SP, RS3 MP terrorist hunt, anyone?). If another team's method kicks your butt, learn and adapt. Get better.
