Ok here is my problem.

I am running a brand new computer with a GeForce 6800 with 256 mb on card, P4 3.0ghz, 1gb Corsair ram (2 x 512), a 650watt power supply.

When I go into configuration of Far Cry and hit autodetect it sets everything to low, you'd think it would set everything to high considering I got pretty much the best you can have right now.

When I am in game I Freeze up sometimes, the shadows cast on the ground come out as solid black boxes and the game just doesn't look 100% as good as some of the screen shots I have seen, it looks blurry

anyone have any idea what i need to do?

attempted fix I tried was to download the latest drivers from Nvidia, but when I went to install it it told me that it was older than the drivers I currently had installed, so I canceled it

When you say it autodetects to Low, do you reset everything higher? With those specs, I'm assuming you're running graphics at their highest settings for the game, but post them just in case.

Since you mentioned a problem with shadows, try setting the Shadows down to Medium, and see if that helps. I'm not sure what else to suggest at the moment, but give this a try and let us know!

Sounds like you just received an area 51 computer, if so awesome! I have a 64 bit aurora. I'm afraid your gonna have to wait for nvidia to come out with a wql certified driver for the 6800.....ultra. Im an ati guy and im about to purchase the x800xt platinum card next month.... I have 2 other gaming rigs i built my self. One has a 5900xt nvidia card the other a ati 9700 pro card. I really had to tweak the nvidia card to get it to work good . I found that with this game my nvidia card likes direct3d9 as a driver as opposed to open gl. I also found alot of info at tweakguides.com (http://tweakguides.com) check them out. I like nvidia cards they are good but in most cases with this game they seem to need more tweaking then ati cards, but great system dude, run a 3dmark2003 and post it here sometime.

Ps: This game hates overclocking from video cards and cpu's so set those to defaults.
