Ok im planning on building my own computer this summer and im wonder if this system would play farcry at 1024x768 with maxed out settings.
AMD opteron 146 64 bit processor (Equalivant of a 3200)
Asus k8v
Corsair 1g ram
Western Digital 120 gb 7200rpm
ATI radeon 9800pro 128mb
If this systeam cant play maxed out what kind of setings would i need to get a minimum fps of 40?

Your graphics card will be the limiting factor there.
I have the 9800Pro (GREAT CARD) I normally run it on "high" and not "very high"
You can't notice the difference when you play at ALL, anyone who says other wise is full of bull. I spent hours looking for differences.

I get FPS of about 45 - 50 which runs really smooth.
I used to run graphics on MAx but FPS used to bottom out at 25 - 30 BAD !!! BAD !!!
When i got in multiplyer fire fights it used to really put my aim off.

If you wanna go Full details then go for the new Ati X800 Pro.
The 9800XT is still very expensive and is quite far behind the new X800 Pro.

I've had my 9800Pro for about 4 months and I love it. I will be going for a X800 Pro next but not until I buy HL2 and Doom3 and see how it runs, I'm sure it will run fine.

I'll get the X800Pro in 6 - 8 months I expect.

BTW I run my resolution at 1024 X 768 as well.
