Hi there,

For those of you who havn't found it already...Ubisoft Support has finally provided solutions for at least some of the problems that ppl have been experiencing....as follows:

Error Message: CD/DVD Emulation software found...
Installation Error: 1311 source file not found...
Crash at cut scene Level 2.
'Correct CD' error.
Losing multiplayer internet connection.
Which internet ports are required.

Unfortunately, the main Ubi Solution Centre listing doesn't make these very easy to find, so this seems to be the easiest path:

ubi.com > Support > Ubisoft Tech Support Centre > FAQ's > Ubi Solution Centre > Search (Select Product: (platform): pc / (Title): Far Cry) > gives Far Cry solutions list.

Enjoy.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Richie.

I've already read this solution on ubi.com and many other web sites. It didn't help me at all!

I've just reinstalled Win98SE due to it becoming unstable over time (I do this about every 6 months).

However, on a completely CLEAN system with ALL LATEST drivers and NO CD copying/emulation software whatsoever, you'd expect Far Cry to start up WITHOUT this error, wouldn't you? NO such luck! It's STILL hanging on like a lost toilet seat to a Sumo Wrestler!!!

But MY copy of Far Cry is on DVD, not CD! So it looks to me like Far Cry's copy protection DOESN'T recognise the DVD version of the game! As far as I'm concerned, this PROVES that the problem is with Far Cry's "quirky" copy protection!

I've tried EVERYTHING! Searching the web for answers, trawling around forums, hunting through the Far Cry config files to see if they contain the wrong drive letter for my DVD drive, etc. NO success whatsoever!

I finally HAD to resort (very reluctantly) to using a NoCD patch to BYPASS the copy protection! Whaddya know, it worked! I'm in!

This doesn't mean I condone COPYING software AT ALL! I DON'T! My copy of Far Cry is an original DVD version and I will SUPPORT developers by continuing to BUY my games LEGALLY! After all, without our contributions to the revenue they receive from sales profits, developers CAN'T continue to produce leading edge software, can they?

However, if I'm FORCED to resort to a NoCD patch to bypass shoddy copy protection on a game I've paid for and OWN perfectly LEGALLY, then what the hey! Why not? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi H8Ball...

I always look for the no CD patch for any game.

Its more convenient than putting in that dvd or cd everytime.

Dont apologise for using it..... its a natural way of life for most people.

Win98SE ? Well no wonder you have problems.

FWIW, I and a Friend have the DVD version and it works fine on WinXP. I'm guessing the copy protection doesn't like your DVD reader. So far Plextor, Sony and Lite-on have worked fine with it, but there was a thread a while back that someone started about all the DVD and CD drives that had a problem with it.

Time to upgrade

Does FarCry even work with Windows98?
